Weight loss for vegetarians

LargeInCharge · 16/04/2021 12:55

Hello!
I’ve been a vegetarian nearly all my life and I want to lose weight to be healthier (and to look better in my clothes) so I thought I’d create a space where fellow veggies (and vegans too) can share their weight loss journeys, food ideas, recipes and how they are feeling.

I started my journey on Tuesday so this is day 4 for me. My daily calorie limit is 1200.

Weight - 15st 4 (weighed on day 1)
Height - 5’ 9
Goal weight - 10st 7

How I gained weight - not exercising, eating crisps, cake, too many carbs and booze.
Positive changes - trying to be more active, ditched the crisps, cake and booze. Limiting my carbs as much as I can.

No pressure to reveal weight or anything that’s personal to you.

Good luck. 🥗🌽🥦🥬🥕🥒🫑🥑🥭🍅🍑🍓🍌🥥🫐

Happy weekend everyone!

We’re having a whiskey and driving miles to pick up a huge vegan Chinese tonight... hard work eating well all week and well deserved!

I wish you all a stable Monday morning on the scales Grin

purplegirl13 · 15/05/2021 20:40

Checking in for the day....

Period cramps have had me reaching for pizza and cheesecake. Pizza was split over lunch and dinner. Estimating about 1700-1800 today. Will get back on track tomorrow.

themadcat enjoy the whiskey and Chinese food

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 15/05/2021 22:13

Happened to weigh myself today and it's been nearly a month.
I've lost 3.5 guinea pigs overall.

So nearly 1 a week.
If I keep it up I feel like I can cope with it taking 6 months to get to where I want to be.

I seem to eat a fair bit more when I'm on my period but I've been sitting at about 1500 calories on those days. Otherwise I can manage 1000 ish.

It's annoying to me that I am losing weight fairly slowly on a very low amount of calories but at least it's a loss.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 15/05/2021 22:49

Hope you enjoyed your Chinese and whiskey @Themadcatparade. Pizza and cheesecake sounds good @purplegirl13. My calories were about the same today as the last few days (1800 ish) though I did do a workout today (I've been slacking a bit recently). If only I could cut the snacks out I reckon I'd lose a bit more. I actually braved the scales this morning and I haven't lost any guinea pigs - I wasn't expecting to though. Three and a half guinea pigs is good @SuperLoudPoppingAction - your weight is going in the right direction. Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone.

KihoBebiluPute · 16/05/2021 06:19

Well done @SuperLoudPoppingAction that's brilliant and you're quite right that is sustainable to keep up over the coming months till you reach your goal.

I very much enjoyed my pizza and beer and catching up with my siblings. I am back up a pound since Friday but am hopeful I can lose that plus a bit more before next weigh-in, if I am sensible.

I'm not sure about all these lost Guinea Pigs though. If they get stranded outside in the rain they will be sad, and might be in danger from a fox. I would worry about them. I could lose these cute little guys instead but cute as they are, the side-effects aren't great.

Hope you enjoyed the Chinese food and whiskey @Themadcatparade

Ditto with the pizza and cheesecake (mmmm cheesecake) @purplegirl13 hope your cramps have gone.

Well done on your weight loss @SuperLoudPoppingAction

You’re right @KihoBebiluPute the amount of guinea pigs we’ll end up losing could unbalance the eco system Grin

NotquitewhatImeant · 16/05/2021 15:28

Hello all,

Well done on the weight loss @SuperLoudPoppingAction. I’m afraid I’ve put back on the little guinea pig I lost last week. I felt bad for him! But more seriously I’m not surprised, I really struggled this week with picking and I felt a bit out of sorts all week. I need to try and change my whole evening routine and see the diet as something positive rather than punitive. Any suggestions welcome!

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 16/05/2021 16:05

I've been trying to ensure I have some sensory stuff around eg nice perfume, nice herbal tea, cucumber water with ice and mint.
Also gardening is helping a bit.

I have had crisps every evening for 3 days though.

I was really hungry just now and had an apple.

I found the first Pinch of Nom book in a second hand shop for 50p yesterday and I'm going to try some of their ideas this week.

Mainly though I've been logging everything and trying to drink water instead of eating until I work out if I'm actually hungry.

purplegirl13 · 16/05/2021 16:51

@SuperLoudPoppingAction well done. I've lost just over 6lbs in 10 weeks. I'm short(5'1) so I knew it was going to take awhile unless I heavily restrict calories or add in proper exercise (and possibly lots of it). Don't take this the wrong way but are you eating about 1000 calories most days? Is that enough for you?
Oooh, let us know how you get on with the pinch of nom book. 50p is a bargain!

@Yourownpersonaljesus what snacks are you currently eating?

@KihoBebiluPute you know that lbs won't be a prope gain, so a few days on plan and that'll disappear!

@NotquitewhatImeant what are you reaching for in the evenings at the moment?

So far today:
B - watermelon (kefir drink I planned on had gone off)
L - broccoli soup with rye toast, spread with cream cheese
S - peach
Dinner will be salad with cheddar, houmous and some type of veggie protein (maybe ooump kebab pieces), and I'll finish the last of the wine (about 200ml)

I'm trying to focus on self-care, so not only food but trying to regularly moisturise after showering (something that hasn't happened much over the year - moisturising I mean, not the showering!), work my way through the stash of sheet face masks I've got etc. I say that, but doing it is another matter

purplegirl13 · 16/05/2021 17:01

Does anyone here have an instant pot - it's my birthday next month and I'm thinking of asking for vouchers towards one.

I have a:
pressure cooker - can't remember that last time I used it. Only used to use it for dals but have taken to shoving them in the slow cooker for hours instead.
slow cooker - used for soups, dals, ratatouile

I like the idea of the instant pot replacing these 2 items, and I'll have the added feature of a rice cooker and possibly more. I have a small kitchen so that's a plus, but not sure I'll use it enough - might need to investigate more veggie recipes

Yourownpersonaljesus · 16/05/2021 18:11

The snacks I'm eating aren't too unhealthy @purplegirl13 there are just too many of them! I tend to snack on fruit, skinny bars or fibre one bars.
Also I have to have something sweet after lunch and dinner. I'm much worse when I'm at work. I'm not sure whether it's because I'm more hungry or more stressed! Today has been a good day.
B - cup of tea, branflakes with semi-skimmed milk
L - 2 wholegrain crumpets with marmite and reduced fat cheese, 2 tomatoes
S (at my mums) - a cup of tea and 2 rich tea biscuits
D - Linda McCartney Southern Style Chicken, double portions of carrots and broccoli, skyr natural yoghurt with frozen strawberries and a squirt of honey.
Fitbit app says this is 1445 cals.
Have also done a challenging (well for me anyway) HIIT workout.
And I haven't got an instant pot so can't help there - sorry.

purplegirl13 · 16/05/2021 20:27

yourown I've not seen wholegrain crumpets before. Where did you buy them? What would you do if you didn't have the skinny/fibre bars within reach? Go for something else or not bother because the snacks aren't there?

I've had some dark chocolate buttons this eve, weighed out and put them in a little bowl. Teeth brushed so I'm ending the day at 1163 calories.

Hope everyone has had a good day.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 16/05/2021 22:15

Got the crumpets from Ocado. Here they are: www.ocado.com/products/m-s-6-ultimate-multi-grain-crumpets-511018011
If I didn't have any bars at work I would have to go without. That's my plan for tomorrow - to take less food to work so if it's not there I can't eat it. I usually keep something in my cupboard just in case I get hungry but maybe I need to stop doing that. It's weird because I can resist them when I'm at home (usually).

purplegirl13 · 16/05/2021 22:22

Thanks. Have added to my ocado basket for when l next order.

Let us know how you get on tomorrow, I'm also in the camp of if its there I'll eat it.

LargeInCharge · 17/05/2021 00:21

Hope everyone had a good weekend. I didn’t do many steps today as I felt lazy and tired.

B - coffee with double milk - 47
L - 3 southern quorn bites, cauliflower, sriracha tofu, Pepsi max - 486
D - quorn quarter pounder, mushrooms, tender stem broccoli, sweet potato mash, 0.5 tsp extra virgin olive oil - 376
S - ryvita three cheese thins (didn’t like them), philly lightest herbs, strawberries, 2 Fanta zero raspberry cans, a kvarg and a coffee - 227
Total 1136

Good morning, I hope you all have had a good weekend.

Only a small blip on the scales this morning which I was shocked about as my eating has been horrendous (think 900cal Sunday night dinner horrendous!) so I am happy. It was worth it.

I’m going to try and do a bit of a long water fast today to really kickstart things. I’ve given myself until 2.30pm when I can have my first meal (rather than 12pm) which is super long for me so it’s going to drag today! I would do longer but I have the kids school run and dancing to ferry about and I know i won’t be getting an early dinner this evening.

I’m starting the week at 149.6lbs and I’m hoping to get to 148 by the end of it. Trying to make that 6th guinea pig loss more permanent!

@Yourownpersonaljesus whole meal crumpets sounds amazing!! I have never shopped at Ocado before I might take a look.

@purplegirl13

dark chocolate has been my saviour the past month it really feels like I’m having a treat and it’s stopped me from reaching for the cake Grin

@SuperLoudPoppingAction congrats with the weight loss that’s a superb effort!

Themadcatparade · 17/05/2021 09:43

@purplegirl13 I always thought one pots were slow cookers Blush, so no idea what they are!

I have been talked in to getting an air fryer off friends so that will be the next kitchen gadget I think but we have no room at the moment

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 17/05/2021 09:48

Purplegirl, I have a ninja foodi 9 in 1.
I use it quite often.
More or less daily.

I use the pressure to cook rice. I'm quite absent minded so it's reassuring to be able to stick rice on and know it will come out the way I expect and not burnt or undercooked or boiled over.

You can cook beans too, if you soak them first, but I haven't tried.

I've used the slow cooker function to make tomato sauce when olio resulted in 20 bags of tomatoes nobody wanted.
It isnt quite like a slow cooker but it worked fine. I heated the sauce up a lot first.

I use the dehydrator to make dried fruit.

I use the air fryer loads. Eg to make chips. 100g of air fried chips is barely any calories. I didnt know if I would use it much so that's the biggest surprise for me.
I've made cauliflower wings a few times. 'Fried' tofu in batter too.

Themadcatparade · 17/05/2021 10:01

@SuperLoudPoppingAction it’s the air fried tofu that’s pushing me in to getting one tbh!

The only think I use really is the ninja bullet for soups and fruit. I’m obsessed with smoothies and blended juice at the minute it’s my daily treat and where I get all my sugar from. I got it given when my grandad passed away in feb, it was my nans. I use it every day and I never thought I would, it’s probably when I really kick started on the health front when I inherited that tbh so I have my grandparents to thank for all my newly loose guinea pigs in the world ❤️

MayorGundersonsDogRufus · 17/05/2021 12:31

I'm in! My weight has always yo-yoed but lately I've been coping with the death of my mum, a big planned relocation and a stressful job and I've been comfort eating and drinking. Everything is too tight.

Height: 6ft
Weight: 17stone
Size: clothes size 18

DH and I are trying fasting - cutting down to two meals a day - having brunch around 11am and then dinner with DD at 6pm. Initially I just want to shift around 10kg so my clothes feel more comfortable and then I will set a new target.

NotquitewhatImeant · 17/05/2021 12:56

Hello all, feeling a bit more positive today. I’m just going to have to have firm rules in the ending. It’s mainly handfuls of breakfast cereal @purplegirl13 or a few crisps... things that are too easily accessible. We have a blasted pantry. I’m also going to cut back on the exercise a little as I think it’s possibly making me more stressed and tired rather than making me feel good. I need to listen to my body a bit more.

I now really fancy an air fryer/ninja foodie @SuperLoudPoppingAction. I’m with @Themadcatparade - I want air fried tofu!

NotquitewhatImeant · 17/05/2021 12:57

Evening not ending! And hello @MayorGundersonsDogRufus. So sorry for your loss Flowers. Sounds like a stressful time

Themadcatparade · 17/05/2021 13:12

@MayorGundersonsDogRufus

Welcome and So sorry for your loss Flowers

I’m a regular faster too so if you need any help or even motivation just give me a shout Smile

purplegirl13 · 17/05/2021 18:04

Happy Monday everyone.

@Themadcatparade honestly, don't worry about a 900cal dinner - now if it was every day that might be another matter. This absolutely needs to be about balance. How did you get on with a later fast today? An Ocado shop can get expensive very easily (so don't say I didn't warn you!) My favourite cordial is from there. It's a cherry one - tastes just like cherry drop sweets from the 80/90's.
I can go months without chocolate unless it's within reach. I have been enjoying measured amounts of this www.ocado.com/products/doisy-dam-coconut-lucuma-70-dark-chocolate-272021011

@SuperLoudPoppingAction I am so tempted by an instant pot (which looks very similar to the ninja foodi) but am thinking I should brave more pressure cooker recipes first (and stop being so scared of it).

@MayorGundersonsDogRufus sounds like a very difficult time for you, so sorry to hear of your loss.

@NotquitewhatImeant absolutely listen to your body.

I have earmarked this recipe to try over the next couple of weeks myheartbeets.com/chickpea-cauliflower-coconut-curry/

I can't remember who posted the link to the aubergine chilli but I'm making it tomorrow (plan on bunging it in the slow cooker)

Today:
B - honey kefir drink (161)
L - salad plus houmous, boiled egg, and avocado (328)
S - peach (59)
D - egg fried 'rice' made with cauliflower rice, steambag veg, mushrooms, egg, and cauldron marinated tofu pieces. (324)
Last of the wine that I didn't have yesterday (165)

Total: 1037 which is lighter than usual but I'm full. I have the scope for something else if I need it though but don't really want to reach for choc for the sake of it.
