Weight loss for vegetarians

LargeInCharge · 16/04/2021 12:55

Hello!
I’ve been a vegetarian nearly all my life and I want to lose weight to be healthier (and to look better in my clothes) so I thought I’d create a space where fellow veggies (and vegans too) can share their weight loss journeys, food ideas, recipes and how they are feeling.

I started my journey on Tuesday so this is day 4 for me. My daily calorie limit is 1200.

Weight - 15st 4 (weighed on day 1)
Height - 5’ 9
Goal weight - 10st 7

How I gained weight - not exercising, eating crisps, cake, too many carbs and booze.
Positive changes - trying to be more active, ditched the crisps, cake and booze. Limiting my carbs as much as I can.

No pressure to reveal weight or anything that’s personal to you.

Good luck. 🥗🌽🥦🥬🥕🥒🫑🥑🥭🍅🍑🍓🍌🥥🫐

Hi everyone. So sorry to hear about your friend's daughter @KihoBebiluPute - how awful. I counted my calories for the last couple of days and they came out at around 1800 for each day. It's no wonder I'm not losing anything lately. Here's what I've eaten today:
B - cup of tea and branflakes with semi-skimmed milk.
S - a banana
L - 6 quorn cocktail sausages, mini breadsticks, carrot sticks, cherry tomatoes and cucumber, an apple, 6 dried prunes, a skinny crunch bar
S - a fibre one salted caramel bar
D - lentil, mushroom and spinach curry, basmati rice and a chapati, skyr yoghurt with frozen mango
I seem to eat so much when I'm at work.

KihoBebiluPute · 13/05/2021 06:57

Thanks for the good wishes all

I was successful yesterday at resisting snacks in the afternoon and the scales are definitely down this morning which is brilliant.

Today I am going to be busy all morning but will have a dangerous couple of hours between 2 and 4 where I will be stressed and wanting to comfort-eat as I wait for a job interview at 4pm. Planning to have a slightly larger than usual lunch as hopefully if I still feel full from plenty of healthy vegetable based nutrition I may be less likely to stuff the high calorie snacks in.

Themadcatparade · 13/05/2021 09:31

@KihoBebiluPute sorry to hear your sad news, I can’t imagine what everyone is going through right now Flowers

Good luck with the job interview you will have to let us know how it goes! Maybe it will go the opposite way and you won’t want to eat beforehand Grin

Themadcatparade · 13/05/2021 09:35

I haven’t been calorie counting the past day or being as strict so hopefully some lenience will help my metabolism from whatever is going on! I did have a panic attack last night and I ended up ditching my tea and going to bed so that can’t have been too good for me. Will try again today.

I haven’t been measuring myself, i don’t have any means to do so at the minute!

Plans for today’s meals are to finish off last nights food for lunch of two veggie kebabs and salad, not sure what’s for dinner tonight though, I might scour this thread and get some ideas, some of your lunches sound delicious!

purplegirl13 · 13/05/2021 09:48

@Yourownpersonaljesus 1800 might be ok, depending on your height/current weight. I can't recall if you normally track calories?

@KihoBebiluPute good luck with the interview - I normally go the other way with my stomach churning away and I feel sick.

@Themadcatparade sorry to hear about the panic attack, they are very unpleasant. Do take it easy today

Today's plan:
B - nothing (will have some green tea)
L - boiled egg and avocado salad
D - rice and dal
Snack options - peach, cucumber/houmous

NotquitewhatImeant · 13/05/2021 10:44

@purplegirl13 I use PES science vegan vanilla at the moment. I change whenever I finish a tub though. It works well in porridge. I did try popcorn last night and that’s quite good as it takes ages to eat and is low calorie. I don’t like cheese much - I think that makes me a weird vegetarian! I might copy you and do dal tonight. One of my favourites.

@Themadcatparade sorry you had a hard evening.Hope you feel a bit Breyer today. .Sometimes I think dieting can make you subconsciously a bit hard on yourself or unsettled. It does for me, even if I think I’m doing it for positive reasons.

Good luck for the interview @KihoBebiluPute. I’m a nervous nibbler too!

LargeInCharge · 13/05/2021 13:07

Well done on the weight loss @KihoBebiluPute and good luck with the interview

I hope you’re feeling better @Themadcatparade panic attacks sound so scary. Have you looked into meditation or any techniques to help?

So sorry for your loss, kiho.

I hope the interview goes well!

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 13/05/2021 13:17

With protein powder I'm struggling to find any without added sweeteners. I found some in home bargains that is mostly rice and pea protein and no sugar or sweeteners but I'm not sure how it will work eg for making high protein ice cream.

LargeInCharge · 13/05/2021 14:39

Could you substitute the protein powder for Greek yoghurt? I used to have protein shakes but they were over 200 calories for 24g of protein.
I eat high protein yoghurts instead now and Greek yoghurt can be used in ice cream recipes.
The yoghurt I had before (kvarg stracciatella) has 89 cals and gives me 15g protein.
Plain Fage total is also good.

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 13/05/2021 14:46

I was wondering about milk powder, actually. You can definitely add it to homemade yoghurt to make it thicker.

Yourownpersonaljesus · 13/05/2021 19:50

Hope you've had a better day today @Themadcatparade.

I think I should be eating less calories @purplegirl13. I'm 5'7 and 10 and a half stone (ish - too scared to weigh myself atm). I have only very roughly been counting calories (apart from the past 3 days) but used to eat much less when I first started my weight loss journey. I was seriously over eating before. It's been nine months now and my willpower is waning.

LargeInCharge · 13/05/2021 23:00

B - coffee and a kvarg 115
L - soulful soup (same as yesterday), 2 boiled eggs, Fanta zero - 307
D - halloumi (30% less fat) with cauliflower & asparagus, Fanta zero - 336
S - dried apricots, 6 ryvita whole grain cracker breads, 30g philly milka, 30g philly lightest herbs, strawberries and another Fanta zero.
Everything weighed (I feel like a sweet shop owner)
Total 1142

@KihoBebiluPute how did the interview go?

@LargeInCharge yes I’ve had them intermittently all my life, I’m much better dealing with them now. I went to bed to sleep it off.

Yesterday I had a more relaxed day carb wise and when I stepped on the scales it looks to be plummeting downwards again! Yippee!! I did have a binge though on nuggets which wasn’t great.

Lunch: veggiebabs, salad and coleslaw from the night before.
Snack: blended strawberries and blueberries, 4 nuggets with mayo. Two peanut butter crunch chocolates my partner brought home Blush
Tea: a bowl of chilli with a few meatballs and avocado.

I swam for only 25 mins yesterday but I’ve changed my stroke and it’s much more difficult for me. I’m teaching myself to do front crawl and getting used to being under the water and timing my breathing differently. It did wonders for my anxiety.

I am weighing in at 149.2lbs, pic of my chart for a visual on the small decline in the past few days.

Themadcatparade · 14/05/2021 09:12

Oh, total calories was 1269 yesterday too, not bad for the treat binge considering

LargeInCharge · 14/05/2021 09:26

Well done on your weight loss @Themadcatparade that’s great

I found this online:

WHAT WEIGHS ONE POUND?
A bag of coffee beans
A tall boy beer
A small wallclock
A block of butter
A pack of spaghetti
20 AA batteries
A baseball
A cell phone in a hard case
A can of beans
A large apple
4 McDonald’s quarter pounders
A guinea pig
A loaf of bread
Half of my Macbook Air
A shoe
A paperback book
A football
Aaaaand… a pound of fat

I wonder how many guinea pigs we’ve lost between us so far? Grin

OP posts:
Themadcatparade · 14/05/2021 09:40

@LargeInCharge wow that’s quite a lot of weight when you think about it! I’ll have to start taking my guinea pig out of my pocket when I weigh myself I might get to my goal of 147 faster 😂

6 guinea pigs lost so far 😁

NotquitewhatImeant · 14/05/2021 10:02

oh please can we report weight loss in guinea pigs?! Grin

purplegirl13 · 14/05/2021 10:13

@NotquitewhatImeant Thanks for that protein powder rec, I'll look into it. I tried one an unflavored pea protein powder a few years ago and, of course, it was not pleasant! Can't believe you don't like cheese - I could live off it! Smile

@Yourownpersonaljesus after nine months, I'm not surprised - I'm 10 weeks in and am struggling with the constant counting. Can you look back on those 3 days and work out where you are adding extra calories that might not have been needed?

@Themadcatparade I am glad you had a better day yesterday on the carb front. I do wonder whether you need to increase carbs, and in turn your calories will go up (that might not be a bad thing for you?). Well down on the weight loss. I am impressed with your swimming - I can barely swim and it's something I really want to work on as I love being in the water.

purplegirl13 · 14/05/2021 10:17

Weigh in day for me

12/03/21 -0.4lbs
19/03/21 -1.4lbs
26/03/21 -1lbss
02/04/21 - 0.8lbs
09/04/21 -1lbs
16/04/21 -0.2lbs
23/04/21 -1.2lbs
30/04/21 +0.2lbs
07/05/21 -1.4lbs
14/05/21 +1lb

Total loss: 6.2lbs (6 guinea pigs)

Today's plan:
B - nothing
L - salad with those ikea vegetab;e balls (am loving these and the pack is almost finished)
D - Quorn best of British sausages (2), fried or scrambled eggs, baked beans. Sainsburys had the sausages in stock for the first time in a year!
Snack options if needed - cucumber/houmous, watermelon, peach

Large glass of wine planned for this evening

KihoBebiluPute · 14/05/2021 10:34

Thank you for asking @Themadcatparade it went well and they want to see me again on Wednesday but want me to do a coding challenge first to prove my skills so that is going to make for a busy few days!

Weigh in day for me and I am 1.75lb down from last Friday so I am very happy with that. That's dispite yesterday's snack-o-rama including 3 chocolate biscuits, a marshmallow and a thin slice of bread and butter with lemon curd which were above and beyond my carefully calorie-controlled lunch and dinner. However I have done a fair bit of running so that seems to have balanced out.

Not eaten anything today so far and not currently particularly hungry. I'll be having a modest lunch and having pizza and beer at dinner tonight which I will try to ensure is in fairly restrained quantities!

LargeInCharge · 14/05/2021 14:44

Congrats on all those lost guinea pigs!

@KihoBebiluPute good news that they want to see you again, and well done on the weight loss. Enjoy the pizza and beer tonight

I've had an early dinner. Stuck to today's plan

L - salad with houmous, and ikea veggie balls (350)
S - watermelon chunch (53)
D - Quorn sauasges, 2 fried eggs, baked beans (561)
Total: 964, leaving me with 336 for a large glass of wine this eve

Annoyingly the quorn best of british sausages weren't as nice as I remember.

purplegirl13 · 14/05/2021 17:55

*watermelon chunks (hate there's no edit button)

LargeInCharge · 15/05/2021 09:06

Yesterday’s total was 1062 and I did over 9k steps.

Have a good weekend everyone.
