Losing the menopot: if you have done it, how?

Am 49, perimenopausal and with a huge pot belly that is really depressing me. Covered it up in winter but it has burst forth like The Alien today! I am 5'7 and a size 12. V small busted and small hips so the menopot is even more prominent. ( Am also Asian so doomed genetically).

I know there is no such thing as spot reducing so I am trying to lose weight all over. Low carb diet ( hell if you are Asian), 16: 8, no alcohol or sugar except an occ treat. I am not great on exercise but walk abt 5 to 10 km a day. ( think diet more important than exercise anyway). None of it is working much. If you are in the same age category , menopausal and have tamed your menopot how please?

I had a menopot too 😂

I'd always been slightly pear shape then I became a definite apple!

I tried a few things but the only thing that worked was keto. Didn't intentionally do IF but I've never eaten breakfast.

That was a couple of years ago and I'm now low carb and intentionally do OMAD or IF. Also don't drink alcohol but that has been a gradual decline over the years.

I lost 2.5 stone and dropped 2 dress sizes. My menopot completely shrunk down and I'm back to being a slight pear shape.

Oh my, it has a name. I too have a menopot. I'm a definite apple these days. I have lost c.9kg in the last year which is tricky with few exercise options.

I look forward to seeing if there are solutions. I fear it is just a natural change in shape at this age.

a) check your TDEE, with a calculator that asks for your age. The number of calories you need decreases, and even small amounts of excess weight can hang around depressingly in just the wrong places
b) diet down to really get to the weight you think you should be, not stick around at a few lbs over
c) stay active - I took up running at about that age, and I think that helped all my lower body, including flattening tum (a surprise and welcome effect, for someone who had always been rounded, sometimes well rounded, before)
d) brace yourself for skin your skin staying a bit baggy, even if your actual shape improves. Thus is the scenario where good squish-it-in underwear becomes worth its weight in gold

Thanks for the tips and the sympathy. I cant do Keto because I do not eat meat, and only rarely eat chicken and fish. Eat a lot of lentils and pulses. No religious objections: just have found it hard to change my cultural diet.
I shd probably take up running. Have hated it in the past but will give it another shot.
