Second nature - sustain

Escapetothecuntry · 25/03/2021 20:07

I'm almost finished Second Nature and I'm just wondering if anyone has continued after the initial 12 weeks?
40 quid a month seems expensive for more of the same but I'm wondering if anyone has any feedback.

Whilst I haven't finished mine, I too am keen to see your question answered. I am hoping that what I am loosing I can keep off.

Nefbachmorf · 27/03/2021 11:22

Is Sustain now £40 a month? Someone I know was on SN and did very well, Core programme was £40 but Sustain was only £10 a month. P

Be aware that they block your access to many of the recipes that you already have in the app if you cancel Sustain, you will have them until you do the next update. The only ones they allow access to are the ones in the actual recipe book they send out when you first join up.
The person I know was pissed off with them about this as she had been assured that if she cancelled she would still have access to the recipes she already had as well as the articles. She fully understood that she couldn't have any new recipes and thought that was absolutely fair.

She said Sustain was ok, but that was when it was £10 a month. I'm sure she wouldn't think it was worth £40 a month. The group chats were helpful.

You've reminded me that I keep meaning to sign up to SN, however I'm not sure that I will now if Sustain really is £40 a month. I have a lot if weight to lose and 12 weeks of support wouldn't be enough!

Escapetothecuntry · 29/03/2021 13:48

I've realised that they've changed it and you get 3 options with one being start again. I'm in the final week and just got the options, all priced at £40pm with no incentive.

I feel like 40 quid a month is an awful lot so I'm going to do it for a month and see if i need to keep paying.

It's good but for far less functionality than other diets its really hefty.

GeorgeandHarold66 · 29/03/2021 16:56

Would you recommend the Initial course though? I've been toying with the idea of signing up for a while now.

I've gotten on well with it. I'm a menopausal ball of stress and this has clicked better than anything else.

It isn't perfect by and stretch and it is pricy but I've lost an average of 1lb a week over the initial programme despite a fair amount of takeaway. I haven't done any extra exercise because of disability so losing anything feels quite miraculous.

The focus is low carb and low sugar- two portions of fruit a day but you can go wild with veg. The first week is easy if you just go all in. I found it the easiest bit of it all.

I'll pm you a referral code as I was really annoyed when I realised I could have saved 40 quid on the programme.

Thank you @Escapetothecuntry that would be great. I'm going to go for it as I need to do something.

skylover · 30/03/2021 12:02

Hi georgeandharold, I am nearing the end of it. It's really good but hasn't really worked for me unfortunately.

I think it's great if you have quite a lot of weight to lose, were eating pretty unhealthily and want to learn great life habits & nutrition. The coach is really good and the daily articles are good too. The recipes are pretty yummy as well. Trickier if you are vegan.

Any questions feel free to ask Smile

GeorgeandHarold66 · 30/03/2021 12:06

Thanks @skylover can I ask, did it not work for you because you couldn't stick to it or because you stuck to it but didn't lose weight?
Also, if you stop logging in do they message/chase you in any way or just leave you to it? Thank you.

Escapetothecuntry · 30/03/2021 13:37

How much weight in total are you trying to lose sky? Did it work at all for you?

George if you don't interact they won't chase you.

skylover · 01/04/2021 16:44

Hey sorry for delayed response.

I lost 1.5 pounds over 9 weeks. I wanted to lose 7-9 pounds so not much and they said this would prob be tricky. I was rigidly consistent with the food although had some wine at weekends so the nutritionist & I put it down to the wine and not measuring my olive oil.

I am doing something else now that is working better for me and I can now see it was too many calories for my small frame unfortunately. I was already eating a healthy diet and love proper cooking & exercise.

Good luck with it! As I said, I think it's a great programme for those that really need it Smile

DinkyDaisy · 04/04/2021 08:01

My dh signed up for this and has about 4 stone to lose.
He snacks and snacks secretly and eats big portions.
Hoping this will scheme help as finding supporting him hard at the moment as fed up with the snacking.
Hoping chat support will help him.
I will end up having to support meal plans etc but just want denial and secret eating to stop...
I know I sound unsupportive but so hoping this will work!

DinkyDaisy · 04/04/2021 08:03

His start date not for few days so he will eat like a Trojan til then...
Finding him hard to support.
I found this scheme but now wondering if waste of money...

skylover · 04/04/2021 21:18

Daisy it sounds like it would be good for him! It's just 3 meals a day, no snacking really. The meals are decent amounts of protein, veggies abs healthy fats so keep you full enough with no need to snack.

I found that not having breakfast till 11ish helps as then I really only need 3 meals a day.

Good luck!

Escapetothecuntry · 05/04/2021 00:33

Ah I totally agree with you sky. I've got about 55lb to lose and I'll be happy to lose half that. I think once you get close to a healthy weight/lower end of BMI it wouldn't work very well.

I stopped snacking which has been great and my taste buds have really changed.

OP posts:
DinkyDaisy · 05/04/2021 08:07

Thank you skylover.
I find myself so exasperated with him and I know that is not helpful!
Hoping this scheme will help stop the snacking and give him support through the chat.
I will still find him tricky as know he will try to find loopholes, find ways to suggest everyone's diet has to change, choose the most fiddly recipes there are when he can't really cook etc. [Will impact on me...].
But, actually weighing himself the other day a start and recording what he is eating [cheating aside] until scheme starts properly...

Nefbachmorf · 07/04/2021 08:23

Hi again escape.
Thank you for the referral code, I hope to sign up in the next week or two.

During the initial 12 week course can you speak to your coach in private or only in group chat ?

Also, how are you finding it now that you've moved on from the core programme?

Escapetothecuntry · 09/04/2021 21:28

It's groupchat only and the input is quite limiter unless you ask specific questions.

I start the next one on Monday, I miscounted and had a final week to do 😂

I've been unwell and eaten terribly the last week but not put it back on yet.

OP posts:
skylover · 10/04/2021 14:22

Hey nefback the programme I did you could message your nutritionist privately too. She was very helpful when I had questions about my own personal challenges.

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 08/05/2021 02:29

Hi @Escapetothecuntry
How's the plan going?
I want to lose a similar amount to you (just calculated kg to lb, exactly the same amount Grin)
I've jsut been looking at the second nature website, I'd not come across it before. Are they offering group online chat, or zoom/calls?
And group chat as an open forum (to anyone on the program), or a limited number of people starting at the same time?
I've done low carp & sugar before, a few years ago successfully, so know the principles, but it's the moral support I'm looking for.

I was a bit frustrated that I found the website, did a long "quiz" - but it seemed to want me to sign up and pay before telling me what I'd actually be getting!

EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 08/05/2021 02:32

low carb, not low carp Hmm

carp would be low carb though

Escapetothecuntry · 08/05/2021 13:06

It's a limited group - 30-40 although LOADS drop out within the first few weeks.

Beyond the 12 weeks I wouldn't bother, but it's basically CBT crossed with a diet and I found bits of it really helpful. Daily gratitude aren't my thing, but routine setting was good and the food recommendations are simple enough. I found it easy to alter what I already eat and new recipes.

I don't think i will be able to lose all the weight I want to on this, but from a mindset point of view it has been a good way to kick off. I've just broken up with my boyfriend and everything has gone to shit, but despite eating badly I'm not gaining so I do think it's sustainable, if a bit slow.

I'm going to swap to the fast 800 eventually, but I think this is the best starting point for me. I found it better than say WW because I'm not trying to plan my points round donuts at the expense of being full!

I'll pm you the code - I don't get anything if you use it but you'll save 40 quid so it's worth it. Only thing is I've discovered it tells me your email address (someone else signed up, I just ignored it but just an FYI!)

OP posts:
EveryDayIsADuvetDay · 08/05/2021 19:52

@Escapetothecuntry - thanks for the code, that's great.

It was the fast 800 that I did - scarily five years ago.
The forum on the BSD board was great, an open forum, but very supportive. On occasions that I've gone back to it, the chat has been tons quieter.
Holiday next week, and birthday - eat sensibly til then, then start properly at the beginning of June!

Todaywillbegood · 08/05/2021 23:06

This is really interesting as I've been thinking about signing up. Please could someone pm me a referral code?

ThinWomansBrain · 12/05/2021 20:44

Just signed up! - not starting for a couple of weeks - so some mindful awareness of what I'm eating through my holiday and Birthday Grin

And positive name change - from the EverydayisaDuvetDay that I adopted at the start of lockdown, to the more positive ThinWomansBrain - title of a book I started reading at the weekend.
