This is day one. But start as you mean to go on and all that......

It's not a typical day for me, usually I'd have a smaller breakfast and lunch but I need to get some shopping in.

For lunch I made a spicy bean and sweet potato stew thing with a load of leftover gammon chucked in. It was split between 3 with a large bowl left (( so 4 portions)) is there any way of doing it so calories are split rather than it working out whole tins?
And do I add things like stock cubes etc? I've added some pictures of what I'm getting so far.

Hi. You can make recipes on my fitness pal so you don't have to keep inputting each ingredient each time. And when you're doing the recipe ...weigh the finished dish as a whole (1550g for example) and put that weight as the servings. Then weigh your portion and that's what you input into your diary. I hope that makes sense ! Also measure everything in grams. Not 1 medium apple etc it's not accurate. Even crumpets, bagels etc will weigh differently.

ExplodingCarrots · 17/03/2021 19:34

Also yes, add stock cubes.

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 17/03/2021 19:38

ExplodingCarrots thanks, that's helpful to know and makes sense.

Things like pasta/ rice/ porridge I do weigh, but haven't thought to weigh actual whole portions. .

Here's an example of one recipe. And how it's inputted in to my diary . The 372 is 372g serving. It's a lifesaver.

Do you build the recipes up as you input stuff? I don't really use recipes, I'm usually a throw it in and hope for the best type cok but it makes sense if it's going to be long term.

I put everything into a recipe there before I start cooking when I batch cook.
If I am cooking just two/4 portions I just devide what goes in in my head and then save it as a meal foe next time.

I too am big fan of cooking improv and hoping for the best😂

idontlikealdi · 17/03/2021 21:03

Looks like you haven't weighed anything? An ounce of butter sub, 100g red onion in one go, that's quite a lot! Mfp will only work if you're accurate.

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 17/03/2021 21:32

IdontLike I couldn't work out how to put the weighed amount in...... I seem to only get preset option. Probably going wrong somewhere but it is only dthe first time I've used the app so 💁

Fwiw I used 3 small red onions and a very thin scraping of clover. I can't stand the stuff but we're out of butter so had to use dps clover. 🙄 Going food shopping tomorrow thank goodness

You will get it. It's a pita first week

You change when you click/tap serving size or number of servings

Thanks Schrodingers I'm going to have another look at it.

Play with it, press everything, discover what it does. It can be very handy and easy to handle once you get used to it so get exploring😁

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 17/03/2021 21:58

Schrodingers I've now worked out how to put individual amounts in. So that's a massive help 😂😂😂

Good! It took me few days to learn to use it properly. You will get it quickly

ToffeeNotCoffee · 17/03/2021 22:06

It's a laborious data entry exercise but useful and necessary. I've been using it on and off for a couple of years. Once I got over the data entry of it all, I learned to use it as a tool.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 17/03/2021 22:10

I now pre plan in the evening or morning for a day.
Then I just go and amend amounts if necessary. It's much easier for me than having to log everything at the point of cooking.

jelly79 · 17/03/2021 22:18

I plan my day the night before and then spend the next day changing it as I eat 😤

MobyDicksTinyCanoe · 17/03/2021 22:33

I've already done tomorrow's which is quite a typical day for me.. I just need to do some of the weights.
