Slowly!
Do it sensibly and it will stay off.
Eat more vegetables, don't snack ever, three meals a day of reasonable size.
Try and get some exercise outdoors three or more times a week.

Reduce calories and increase exercise

I did 5:2. 10 years ago..worked a treat. i have tried this again recently. .no joy..I am now following pahla b on you tube. I think different approaches work at different life stages

I lost 2st in 2 months last year on the fast800 - 800 cals a day every day (although some slippage towards the end!). Have put a few lbs back on over the last few months but have been eating terribly recently. Apparently there is evidence linking rapid weight loss and keeping more off in the long term. Personally I need quick results to motivate me to stick at it!

I have lost 2 stone gradually, about 1lb a week. Not following any particular ‘diet’, just eating more healthily, cutting out snacking, and keeping an eye in portion control. I still have pasta, rice and potatoes, but a smaller portion. And really limit bread to one slice, once a day.

But I eat ‘normal’ food, food that I enjoy. Lunchtime: soup or salad or egg on toast, beans on toast, for e.g.

Dinner; try and avoid really high calorie foods, pile on the veg.

Once I got out of the snacking habit I haven’t found it hard to lose 1lb a week.

I had 2 stone to lose. As of today, I have lost 1 stone over 2 months. I joined WW's and do the green plan and I work out 5 days, maybe 6 a week.

Also, just wanted to add that I still drink 1/2 bottle of wine, 3 times a week plus some chocolate. Not exactly a hardship. 2 months on I am much, much healthier and fitter. It is so worth the effort to feel good.

I lost 3 stone last year. First I had a week of 'detoxing' (not counting calories but not eating half a pack of biscuits at a time, and making sure I had a walk every day, upping my water) then I had a couple of weeks of calorie counting allowing up to 1500 cals, then a couple of weeks of 1400 cals, then I tried to continue on 1300 cals but didn't get too worried if I had up to 1500. I did 2 forms of exercise every day, usually a brisk walk of around 40 minutes, and a workout of the same length, but sometimes an hour or 2 in the sea, a heavier duty walk, or 3 forms of exercise a day even if the 3rd was just 10 minutes with a skipping rope. I tried not to let myself feel really hungry, and mostly succeeded. I just made swaps - instead of a packet of crisps I'd have a cup of air-popped corn, instead of a handful of grapes I'd have a handful of raspberries, instead of a kitkat I'd have a chocolate fibre one bar, if I fancied juice I'd water it down, I'd avoid the slabs of butter and handfuls of grated cheese I'd normally add to my veggies. It really isn't hard at all to lose weight when you've got going. It's getting in the mindset that's tough!

Less calories more moving/exercise

PurpleDaisies · 01/03/2021 09:19

Something you can stick at! It almost doesn’t matter what it isz

What is it that’s making you give up? Are you missing certain foods too much or are you finding meal planning too hard etc?

MisgenderedSwan · 01/03/2021 09:21

I joined Team RH on Thursday and have so far lost 3.5lbs. Their plan is slow and steady and easy to follow. I would recommend!

GrumpyHoonMain · 01/03/2021 09:22

I eat 1800-2200 calories per day and walk approx 10-15k steps either in one go or in fast bursts of 6k steps at a time. It’s working well to help me lose weight. I am still breastfeeding and so my appetite for carbs has gone through the roof which isn’t good when you have pcos — so I have had to try and find substitutes for cravings.

ppeatfruit · 01/03/2021 09:28

I lost 2 stone without meaning to, it was for health, I used Food Combining. Which is eating fruit ONLY on an empty stomach. Then having protein with lots of veg. and or salad, carbs with veg/salad. Leaving 3 hours between meals. If you OD on caffeine cut down. Drink lots of water.

usernotfound0000 · 01/03/2021 16:06

I've lost just over 1.5 stone since Septmeber. Finding exercise that I enjoy helped, tried running before and it's not for me. Instead I've been doing HIIT workouts with bodyweight and dumbells, I aim to do 30 minutes 4-5 times a week. Diet wise I have low carb on non exercise days and only carbs after exercise other days. Rest of diet is high protein and good fats to feel fuller inbetween meals. Surprised how easy it is to stick to, I've been a lifelong dieter but never really stuck to anything before.

I lost 2 stone last year doing 16:8 fasting and trying to do extra steps. Having a loud fasting period seems to shrink the stomach as I found I could only eat a small meal before getting full after fasting for 16 hours. Also limiting your eating to an 8 hour window is an easy way to naturally reduce the amount you eat.

ppeatfruit · 02/03/2021 08:43

Yes Lockdown It helps me sleep much better too.
