What would it be?

OP posts:
Candleabra · 27/02/2021 10:17

No alcohol at all. And not just while you're "on a diet"
Empty calories, full of sugar, and makes you make bad food choices. Total game changer giving up alcohol completely.

TurnStone · 27/02/2021 10:33

You know what. I wasn't even asking you. The poster I asked answered normally obviously understanding that I was just curious because it isn't easy. Meanwhile you decided to give me a lesson in shopping over a coconut block.
Take your lesson and shove it. Honestly.
I don't even want that fucking coconut block

@SchrodingersImmigrant You Rock ! Seriously.

Cokie3 · 27/02/2021 10:59

@truetuesdays

Final one from me

You have to be hungry to be losing weight
Hunger is your bodies way of trying to maintain your current weight

If you are hungry you are losing weight

@truetuesdays Sorry to be harsh but I've never read such rubbish. Many people like myself have normal levels of hunger but when I fast/starve myself or don't each much for a few days, my body gets used to it and I my body sort of 'gets used to it' and adjusts and I no longer feel hungry, even I only eat 2 boiled eggs and a one slice of cheese in one entire day. Your body adjusts and according to anorexics also, you cease feeling hungry.

So it's the 100% the exact opposite of what you said.

Cokie3 · 27/02/2021 11:18

I don't keep a diet diary or keep track of what I eat. I always did - that was the diet killer. I found it all too much hassle, it felt like an enormous chore to log every single food for every meal every day, and I gave up. Each and every time. Because I was so overwhelmed with having to write down everything. It felt to much like school homework. This is the first time I have lasted longer than 2 weeks on a diet. And I think the reason for that is I'm not so regimental with detailing every bloody thing. I don't keep ANY details at all, and I feel so much more positive and like it's less of a chore. I have an idea in my head of carb amounts allowed per day and what foods add up to what, and I ensure I don't go over it each day. Just in my head. But it's working.

justanotherneighinparadise · 27/02/2021 11:38

I have another tip. Any diet that makes you feel like a martyr will not be sustainable. If you’re walking about feeling virtuous when you are ‘good’ then you’re setting yourself up to flip and be ‘bad’.

A sustainable WOE is one where food is a non issue. You’re not particularly hungry and the food you do eat is enjoyable and satisfying. If you can hit that sweet spot you’ll maintain your weight.

Hazardflash · 27/02/2021 11:41

5:2 and if it was easy and enjoyable, everyone would be slim! It's hard, but has to be done.

justanotherneighinparadise · 27/02/2021 11:43

You have to be hungry to be losing weight
Hunger is your bodies way of trying to maintain your current weight

If you are hungry you are losing weight

I think there’s is some truth to that but again it depends how you are eating. When I was eating a classic western diet and trying to stay within a calorie deficit I would agree. Now I’m low carb/Keto I don’t get those feelings of intense hunger. However that being said I always finish eating before I am full. I tend to eat small amounts. If I ate until I wax stuffed I would not lose weight. So I guess that’s my twist on the ‘feeling hungry’ analogy. For me I can see what the previous poster is saying and probably agree.

Eckhart · 27/02/2021 12:03

@SchrodingersImmigrant

Oh dear. I seem to have touched a nerve. My point wasn't about the coconut block either, it was about how everything is available to everybody these days, making it much easier for people to adhere to the diets they wish if they are willing to make the effort.

I wasn't trying to force you to buy the coconut block, and I certainly didn't expect to unleash a tantrum from you. Did you stamp your foot?

My point was valid with regard to anybody who is trying new things, so whether you want a coconut block or not is neither here nor there. It's not about you. Although you are giving a good demonstration of someone who has tantrums when people suggest they do things outside their usual habits.

And yes, sorry @greendress789 for the derail. My point was that if you want to get hold of something your local shop doesn't have, you can easily order from the internet, so don't be put off by those who say 'But my local shop doesn't sell it...'

SchrodingersImmigrant · 27/02/2021 12:24

@eckhart I wasn't even going to reply, but you are just being ridiculous. Firstly, you keep confusing coconut cream (which usually has preservatives or emulsifiers) with creamed coconut block. Two different items. One of which I've just haven't seen in a shop here. I do know though that it's sold somewhere obviously.
Secondly. It's not a "tantrum". I genuinely have no idea what your problem is. I asked a poster because it is hard to do just one ingredient items so I was curious how they are doing it and what they are cooking with. In come you and end up giving me lecture on shopping and "widening foods available to me" (my food repertoar is preety wide, thank you very much). Honestly, did you think this your "omg you are so stupid you can't order food from amazon" attitide will go unchallenged?

I didn't say no one can do that type of diet even if they try. I simply said it must be hard. You somehow decided I said the former and started treating me like an idiot. While talking about two different products as I explained above.
This is where I end this debate, because it really has no point continue any further.

NeverDropYourMoonCup · 27/02/2021 12:29

#1 Tip: Don't post about diets on Mumsnet.

You'll get;

You're eating too much
You're not eating enough
You're eating the wrong things
You're eating at the wrong time of day
You're eating at the right time, but you now have to have the rest of today's meals within the next 6/8/10 hours and despite the calorific intake being exactly the same, you'll magically get thinner
I don't eat
Everybody eats too much
I live on cream cakes, doughnuts and chocolate and I'm a teeny tiny size
I eat tons and I'm a teeny tiny size
I don't eat because I'm a massive bloater (adds a teeny tiny size to 'prove' it)
Why aren't you exercising? I do a ten mile run between 6.05 and 6.27am every morning just to wake up a bit before actually going and exercising
I've got a friend who is 28 stone and runs marathons en pointe so there's no way your feet, ankles, knee or hip could possibly hurt if you put a pair of Primark trainers on and start hammering the pavement for three hours a day. You just need to run more.
Eat back your exercise.
Don't ever eat back your exercise.
Exercise on an empty stomach.
Never exercise on an empty stomach.
Have you tried weightlifting?
Nobody was fat in the 1970s.
Become vegan. Because vegan calories don't count, presumably

Etc, etc, etc.

If you post something, there will inevitably be people lining up to tell you you're wrong and you might as well not bother. Active demotivation, really.

NoJetter · 27/02/2021 12:37

For me it’s calorie deficit and making sure those calories are nutritious and filling. Treats every now and then and makes sure they are in my calorie allowance for the day. I’ve lost just over 7kg since the start of January on 1200 calories a day and I can say hand on heart I’ve never felt hungry or like I’m depriving myself anything.

Eckhart · 27/02/2021 12:38

This is where I end this debate, because it really has no point continue any further

That's good, @SchrodingersImmigrant

As I said, my point wasn't about you. I'll repeat it, again, for you, because you seem to have missed it, and still insist I'm talking about you:

My point was that if you want to get hold of something your local shop doesn't have, you can easily order from the internet, so don't be put off by those who say 'But my local shop doesn't sell it...'

kateybeth79 · 27/02/2021 15:14

@Eckhart

Calories from different foods take more energy to process than others.

So

If you eat 100kcal of carbs, you burn about 10% making them into potential fat.

If you eat 100kcal of fat, you burn about 30% making them into potential fat.

The calories you eat, therefore, does not accurately reflect the calories you expend.

Also, the body can do very little with carbs, and everything with protein and fat.

This!

Snack on gherkins or cucumbers. Brush teeth early in the evening to stop late snacking

Twinkie01 · 27/02/2021 16:42

Don't eat processed food.

actiongirl1978 · 27/02/2021 16:51

I had a conversation with a GP this week about something else and he said 'it's up to you, it's your "insert body part" I'm not going to make you take this medication'.

Since he said that what resonated was - it's my body and up to me what I put into it.

I can't stop thinking about what he said and it has really affected the way I eat (though my conversation with him was not about food or diet).

So my tip is "it's your body, it's up to you what goes into it".

Happyasahedgehog · 27/02/2021 16:57

"If you are not hungry enough to eat an apple, then you are not really hungry". Emotional eating can be a big problem for me and so I find this quote to be really helpful!

NoJetter · 27/02/2021 16:58

Thanks @Seychelles98! I have 7kg to get to a healthy BMI as I’m currently overweight and then I’d like to lose another 10kg to get back to what I was before I had my children.

I’m not actively trying to eat high protein or low carb. I’m pescatarian and mostly eat vegetarian so I think I’d find low carb difficult. That being said I have reduced the amount of bread and pasta I eat and Im having lots of vegetables and wholegrains and trying to avoid processed sugar.

MrsBobDylan · 27/02/2021 19:44

Eat all the foods you enjoy just less of them.

Today I had a bacon sandwich with the rashers on top of one slice of bread. Tonight I am having a rather delicious home-cooked baked ratatouille and goats cheese and will round off with a mint magnum. I don't eat until lunch so the calories which would have been brekkie go towards something delicious. I don't snack in between because I would rather 'save up' for a great evening meal and pudding.

I think everyone has to find their own way. I am way too self-indulgent to low carb or give up sugar so there is no point me doing those, although I can see they are really effective.

ExConstance · 02/03/2021 16:18

If you are exercising you can't (usually) be eating.

EternalOptimist7 · 02/03/2021 16:19

Quit booze! I have put on loads of weight from drinking & from craving more junk food because of drinking!

Lovingspring · 02/03/2021 20:30

Weigh yourself every week first thing in the morning.

CruellaDaVille · 02/03/2021 21:50

Keep at arms length the well meaning diet saboteurs or feeders, even if they are your nearest and dearest.
