Calories burned using a mini exercise bike help?

I've got one of the mini exercise bikes you can put under a desk and crack on. My question is are the calories burned correct?

Ive lost the screw for the resistance so it's the easiest setting and 60 mins says it's burned 674calories which can't be right??

Just wondered if anyone had one who could tell me what sort of ball park they had so I could compare..

The calories burned are notoriously unreliable anyway on any kind of machine.

I would expect to burn around 70-80 calories for every ten minutes I run but I am very fit and exercise and run a lot so that doesn't seem a million miles out.

If you are using it to calculate your food intact though I would go with about two thirds of what you estimate you have burned.

Actually that's probably on the high side tbh . Are you blowing out your arse on that setting? Or is it quite achievable.

Knittedfairies · 21/02/2021 19:57

This seems to suggest just over 100 calories burned in 50 minutes.

Oh I completely missed the under desk bit. I was envisaging a spinning type bike with sweat flooding down you and your heart rate through the roof. Sorry!

Yes, that is way too high for what is essential wiggling your feet around a bit.

redcandlelight · 21/02/2021 20:01

unless you get sweaty and out of breath the calories burnt will be very little.
even half an hour running only burns about 300kcal.

AThousandTimesYes · 21/02/2021 20:23

It shows how many rotations and "calories burned" in the pic

I wouldn't say I'm out of breath but my legs are wobbly when it's done!

I want to do an hour on it every morning but I've no idea how to work out calories if the computer is totally wrong.

I don't think that's correct. For illustration how odd these are, 16 min on exercise bike at 19-21kmh shows me 70 cal...
Never trust them.

Desmondo2016 · 21/02/2021 20:58

Do you have a fitness watch? You could work it out via heart rate monitoring if so.

SendMeHome · 21/02/2021 21:05

I don’t think that’s right. I did an indoor spin bike class for 45 minutes this morning, mostly in fifth gear, poured with sweat, and burned 255 calories according to my heart rate monitor.

Sparklfairy · 21/02/2021 21:08

Absolutely not right. You burn that many calories if you do an hour straight of intensive kickboxing!

AThousandTimesYes · 21/02/2021 21:09

@Desmondo2016 I do have a Fitbit but have never used the exercise functions! I will try it tomorrow and see what it comes up with, thank you for the idea!

don't get us wrong op exercise is great and will be beneficial for you - it just doesn't burn as many calories as we wish it would.

Boo!

Thats so true! I ran a marathon a couple weeks ago and only burnt a smidge over 2000 calories.
