Saxenda?

Has anyone ever tried the saxenda injections before?

Really considering giving them a go but they're expensive and it's a lot of money if they don't help!

There's a new drug being trialled, isn't there? It looks very positive.

Sorry I didn't mean to pry.

The reason I asked was that I noticed a lot of references to pancreatitis/thyroid etc.

notapizzaeater · 19/02/2021 18:18

I got mine from Burwash pharmacy. £53 per pen.

I bought them end November, I haven't increased them as per the guidelines, just as I've started feeling hungry (lots of groups on facebook fir advice) I reckon I've another 3 weeks before I order more.

That's amazing, think I'll do that. Skinny Revolution was £250 for 2 pens- obviously you get other stuff like meals plans etc for that price but my issue isn't knowing what to eat, I know what I should be eating - I just don't do it Smile
Mookie81 · 19/02/2021 23:25

How long does each pen last?

notapizzaeater · 21/02/2021 19:11

Depends on the dosage you are using. At full dose about 8 days, but I started (checked date - ordered 22/11 ) and stopped for Xmas / new year and I will reorder some next week.

FelicityBeedle · 02/03/2021 23:01

Has anyone had any success being prescribed victoza instead? Same drug but advertised for diabetes and half the price for a private prescription

Hlt2021 · 21/05/2021 20:22

Day 3 on saxenda. Feel OK. Thing i have notice is i feel like my insides are swollen, its hard to describe, i have not had children but can only describe it as if i have a baby in my stomach squashing things. Anyone else has that sort of feeling?

Bubbletiers · 11/08/2021 16:09

Loved mine. Lost weight straight away and I would say it lifted my spirits (I have depression). I was miserable in lockdown 3 due to feeling so fat!

I lost a healthy few pounds a week. I then stopped and forgot to take it March- until now and my weight has remained the same. Ive just ordered another pen to try and shift the final stone I need to get my bmi under healthy- I also exercise and eat very well!

No side effects. I ate small balanced meals and healthy snacks. Green tea every morning. No high fat as this made me nauseous.

I did however bruise easily from the injections (which didn’t hurt)!

TimetohittheroadJack · 11/08/2021 16:24

I'm on week 2, and I've lost 5 pounds, which I'm pleased about. Saxenda binds to the hormone Gherlin (I think that's the name). Less of this hormone available means you get full quicker and stay fuller for longer. One of the side effects is it makes you feel a little seedy, a bit like mild morning sickness.

So the combo of feeling full, staying full and slight nausea makes it much, much easier to stick to low calories (or low fat) diet. I struggle to eat half the amount I normally do, and like others leave crisps and Chocolate in the cupboard uneaten.

I know some (thin) people who just aren't that interested in eating and I sort of feel that way for the first time in my life!

Cost wise, on the lowest dose (0.6mg) 1 pen lasts 17 days. You are supposed to go up to 3mg do one pen (50 odd quid) will last a week.

I agree, it's expensive, but I've came to the conclusion that if I can successfully lose weight, I don't care how much it costs - I go and get my nails and hair done to make me feel and look better but no expensive clothes or make up covers up the fact I need to lose two stone (well, 3 probably).

I've just bought 5 pens to last a month, and plan on sticking to a calorie deficit diet and hope to lose maybe two stone by Christmas.

What do you do with the used needles? Do you get a sharps bin? And do you get the right number of needles for the pen or do you order them separately?

TimetohittheroadJack · 11/08/2021 18:05

Depending on the pharmacy, the needles snd sharps bin comes with it, or they give you the option for a few pounds extra. I'm not actually sure what you do with the sharps bin when they are full, I think you can take them to a pharmacy or gp surgery.

It’s good to see people are doing well. I have been on it for about a month and lost 6.5kg. I also joined the Facebook group and found out that you can get 12 months of Noom for free if you use a us post code. I got 5 pens a few weeks ago from simple online pharmacy for under £150 with a promotion that they were doing. I usually give up early in diets but the saxenda plus using Noom to change my mindset is helping me go one day at a time, and I feel it’s going well so far.

Bubbletiers · 12/08/2021 21:27

Mine arrived by 10am the next day. It came with needles and a bin. All under £60 inc next day delivery.

5 pens for £150????
Dogladyxo · 13/08/2021 06:15

Yes - it works wonders for giving meets appetite but my throat felt like it was starting to close in which freaked me right out and I stopped.

CovidCorvid · 13/08/2021 06:43

Didn’t work for me, I kept going for a few months. Had no effects at all, didn’t feel full, still felt hungry, didn’t lose weight.

Bid876 · 25/10/2021 12:45

Has anyone traveled with the pens? We moved to ROI this year and I can’t see if it’s available here. My DH is going back to the uk in a couple of weeks and I thought he could bring me some back in his check in luggage. Dose anyone know if that’s possible?

VsgKitt · 25/10/2021 12:47

It made me SO ill.

I was throwing up every hour for 24 hours after one dose. Never took a 2nd.

Never been so ill in my life.

Lost 42lbs in 3 months with vsg now.

eatsleepdream · 25/10/2021 12:49

I started in august and have lost 2stone 2ibs. I'm only on 1.2 dose as if I go above I get bad side effects. Injecting is fine as the needle is so small and doesn't hurt and I'm squeamish too. It's a lot of money, but I've saved money on my food bill.

thethoughtfox · 30/01/2022 18:21

@notapizzaeater

I ordered 5 pens worth, I'm on my 4th pen now and am 38.5lb down - I didn't increase the dose as the schedule, I've just increased it as I've needed so technically I should be on 3ml a day but I'm still taking 1.2 and my appetite is still reduced. In fact I have to force myself to eat.
@notapzzaeater That is inspiring. How long did this take?
Userxxxxx · 13/02/2022 20:20

@Pancakeorcrepe

I really want to try it but feel squeamish because of the needle 😱 wish it were something we could drink
I have used Saxenda in the past and the needle is ever so easy to bear, I watched u tube videos which helped me get it right. I found the jab done better in my tummy.

Also if you are fearful, you might like to look into the alternative similar Ozempic - which can be available an oral tablet
my-bmi.co.uk/ozempic
I heard something on this morning this past week that this drug is being made available on the NHS in trying to tackle obesity and related conditions.

EachandEveryone · 01/03/2022 16:16

Im so tempted by this.
