My son did it 4 years ago abroad he was 22 and 25 stone
He lost just under 9stone and has kept it off he had the surgery in the March and lost the 9stone by the September

But 2 of my friends who did it have put the weight back on & more
The younger you are the the better chances you have of keeping the weight off I was told by my sons surgeon as I suppose it’s not a lifetime of bad eating habits your trying to get rid off
His weight can fluctuate by 1/2 stone or so depending on his work pattern but he pretty much eats the same food most days and prepares his own food

RalphtheMouth · 06/03/2021 10:51

@PUER125 good luck! I’ll be joining you Friday. Are you on the milk one?

AwFeebs · 06/03/2021 14:55

Glad to see there's a second thread, my ajrger was meant to happen in Feb with Weight Loss Riga in Latvia but was postponed due to Covid.

Still waiting to rearrange but have been quoted a preliminary figure £8900 for a bypass at BMI Alexandra with Dr Decadt. My BMI is 44 and I have no comorbidities.

Have a pencilled in date of 12th April!

PUER125 · 07/03/2021 07:01

@RalphtheMouth, not the milk LRD, actual food. The first day was quite good.
I have planned meals for the whole week and shall repeat that. I think if I left it to decide what I am having until the actual day, I would just grab anything.
That way lies failure, I think.
I don't have breakfast so that was strange, eating porridge.
I have bought a nice small plate for the 'journey ' so I still psychologically have a full plate.

CoronaCurls · 08/03/2021 13:46

Hello again, I hope everyone is getting on well and those on LRD are managing.

For post-surgery people what are you going to do re Easter?

I avoided chocolate at Christmas but it seems harder to not have it at Easter!

It was my biggest problem pre-surgery and I haven't had any yet, because I'm worried that I wouldn't stop. I don't trust myself with it.

I know I don't have to have a Easter egg but it will be weird without one!

What are you all planning to do?

Undertall · 08/03/2021 14:06

@CoronaCurls
I'm not going to bother. I love chocolate and the thought of how many calories could be consumed before I feel any physical restriction from the sleeve is enough to put me off.
I couldn't trust myself and personally for me it would be a slippery slope.

LaurieFairyCake · 08/03/2021 14:15

I've ordered a Bettys hand painted chocolate egg Grin - will likely last me a month

I've completely gone off chocolate along with most other foods - there are still 2 mini mince pie leftover from Christmas plus about 4 boxes of chocolates- some I've completely gone off Confused - I spat out a Ferraro rocher the other day

The only foods I like now (and by like I mean don't provoke my hernia) are cheese, berries, very thin pizza, a few spoonfuls of salad or rice

I've basically gone off eating a whole portion of anything - I'm eating 1 rich tea biscuit or half a cookie, one slice of pizza, a few spoonfuls of salad, one slice of cheese as 'meals' - and I eat 5 or 6 'meals' a day

MindBodyChocolate · 08/03/2021 15:28

@CoronaCurls I’m not going to bother with an egg. I’ve had a couple of mouthfuls of dark chocolate but I’m not bothered about it. It’s something that I’m ok not having and family has accepted this.

I think I’m eating quite a lot in comparison to others hence slow weight loss. Yesterday I had:

Breakfast: lindahls kvarg (90 Cals and 17g protein - very nice)
Lunch: salad with 2 teaspoons of olive oil plus 2 dessert spoons of tuna mayo plus half slice brown bread
Snack: biltong (About 50cals worth, loads of protein)
Dinner: more salad with tiny lasagne (square the size of 2 matchboxes).

What do you all think? Lasagne was a one off: normally dinner is lean protein with veg. This sounds like a lot written down but when I track on MyFitnessPal it rarely comes to much more than 800 cals and my protein is usually around 50-60g.

Kamma89 · 08/03/2021 15:30

@CoronaCurls & @Undertall. Good decision, hard avoid. Chocolate wasn't an issue for me pre surgery so wasn't too scared to try post. Goes down too easily! Doesn't trigger any fullness & my body seems totally fine with fat & sugar so don't even have dumping syndrome to protect me.

I've actually just come out of a long period of not being able to eat anything proper. Only calories I could get in/keep down being junk essentially. A big shock as I was eating quite normally & well early on. Nutritionist said not to worry, can happen at any stage & most likely my body rebelling at the very rapid weight loss early on. I basically lost around 5 stone in 4 months which is roughly 70% of excess, so a big proportion. Things have slowed down now & my energy is back up now I'm not relying on crap to survive. Won't be going near chocolate again until maintenance.

Kamma89 · 08/03/2021 15:32

@LaurieFairyCake. Pizza for me too has been a lifesaver food! So weird. I wasn't a huge fan before, but has to be sourdough base & eaten quite slowly.

CoronaCurls · 08/03/2021 15:52

I can't eat many carbs definitely not pizza unfortunately 😕
I have a small amount of porridge most days, made with high protein bob milk and added protein powder, and usually some lean meat in the evening.

I try to keep calories to about 600 a day and 60g protein and aim to burn off more than that in exercise, mainly walking and toning exercises on my vibration plate.

Thanks for the advice- I think I will just avoid having an Easter egg - not worth it to ruin all my hard work- almost at 7 stone off 😀

LaurieFairyCake · 08/03/2021 16:17

It's so reassuring how different we all are Grin

I'm not counting calories at all, I'm not dieting at all, I eat whatever I can tolerate, I can't exercise yet as there's only one exercise I can safely do as the swimming pool isn't open for me to do it.

We're just all so different and yet we're all likely to end up with normal Bmi's Grin

GreenEyedMonsterMunch · 09/03/2021 16:26

I love Easter egg chocolate, it's my favourite but I will definitely be avoiding it at all costs. I am only 2 weeks post op now so will be a while before I'm on normal foods anyway.

Can I ask a TMI question? I've tried to have semi skimmed milk since my op but it just goes straight through me so yesterday I tried Almond milk which is supposed to tolerated better but it just did the same? Any good alternatives? I was really enjoying a glass of cold milk too, I could happily live on the stuff so am quite gutted it didn't agree with me.

Kamma89 · 09/03/2021 18:30

7 stone is epic @CoronaCurls! You must feel like a whole different person.

And totally agree with Laurie. It's really reassuring that we've all had such varied experiences/responses. Makes me worry less & trust that as long as its all going in the right direction its all good!

RalphtheMouth · 10/03/2021 17:30

@PUER125 How you getting on with the LRD?

Undertall · 10/03/2021 19:42

Did anyone experience the "week 3 stall"?

CoronaCurls · 10/03/2021 20:49

Thanks @Kamma89!

@Undertall I stalled in week 2 but have lost most weeks since then.

Undertall · 10/03/2021 20:52

@CoronaCurls thanks, I was horrified the last time I got on the scales, I thought it had stopped working Grin

RalphtheMouth · 11/03/2021 20:39

Starting LRD tomorrow!

QueenOfPain · 11/03/2021 21:50

Good luck @RalphtheMouth

RalphtheMouth · 11/03/2021 22:54

Thanks @QueenOfPain - getting real now. My kids organised Mother’s Day dinner for today which was nice.

Seriouslyconfused3 · 12/03/2021 11:15

How’s everyone doing? I’m feeling a bit disheartened at tho mo. I’m over 20 weeks out and my loss has just frozen completely. I’m 66 lbs down- which is 72% of my excess weight but now I feel stuck. I know it’s a matter of just pushing through but I’m being quite hard on myself Blush.

I don’t think the last lockdown helped as I wasn’t very active- whereas I’m back to working out daily again now. Please cross your fingers for me that this is a temporary blip!

Good luck @RalphtheMouth. The first few days might be awful but it definitely gets easier

RalphtheMouth · 12/03/2021 12:47

@Seriouslyconfused3 you’re doing so well, 66lbs is excellent. I’m sure the scales will show a drop again soon.

Undertall · 12/03/2021 12:53

Is there anyone on here who was at the lower (but still high) bmi range, who had a smaller amount to lose (4st) that would be willing to help me please?
