I hate cereal
I detest porridge
The thought of overnight oats 🤢
Toast and peanut butter (pure nut butter) I can tolerate
Crumpet with butter - nice but not healthy
I like eggs poached, omelette, scrambled
I like total 5% yogurt with fruit and low sugar granola but the calories 😳
I don't like 0% yogurt
What can I eat for breakfast that is filling with low prep and modest calories?
I don't really have a sweet tooth, much prefer savoury

I generally have egg and toast or quick omelette with tomato and cheese. Sometimes switch for cornflakes.

User0ne · 24/01/2021 19:24

Eggs and toast or fried tomatoes with toast. The tomatoes take about 5 minutes but of that's too long you can batch cook and reheat

I really like cold fish and oat cakes too

waynesbluestreak · 24/01/2021 19:25

Ohhh fish and oatcakes sounds interesting. Do you mean Scottish oatcakes or Leicestershire/Staffordshire oatcakes?

Roast a load of Mediterranean veg and add to your scrambled eggs

coronafiona · 24/01/2021 19:29

I have poached eggs, and a protein bar mid morning

blubberball · 24/01/2021 21:05

Poached egg and smashed avacado on toast.

Marmite and houmous on a bagel.

I’m not a huge bread fan for weight loss but the warburton thins and PB could work

Re the yogurt: try a 2% or low fat, or mix your 5% and zero fat until you get used to the difference... or try different brands til you find one you like

Re granola: a small sprinkle (a tbsp) as a topping is about 40 calories ... some additional nuts/seeds would add healthy fat & make it more filling

Throwing a banana in there would make it more filling too

Don’t abandon the yogurt option: it’s so quick!

LH1987 · 24/01/2021 22:08

Spinach and ham omlette with one whole egg and some egg white added. That’s my go to anyway.

waynesbluestreak · 25/01/2021 03:07

@10kaDay
Forgot today, I hate bananas 😂
Mixing the yogurts is a good idea and I will cut the granola down too

@waynesbluestreak: maybe an apple or other fruit you like as a mix in?

Re the granola, one option to reduce the calories is to toast a serving of oats (in the oven) & use that to dilute your granola - to reduce the fat content

Bookaholic73 · 25/01/2021 10:05

I hate most sweet breakfasts, so almost always have savoury instead.

Eggs/tomatoes/mushrooms on toast are my favourites.
I’ll also have a selection of veggies, sautéed and topped with avocado or/and egg.

waynesbluestreak · 25/01/2021 19:51

I've had a brain wave today. Egg muffins. Whisked egg with finely chopped pepper and onion poured into silicone cases and baked and then stored in the fridge. Could mix it up with a bit ham or low fat cheese. Easy to grab on the run when I'm trying to herd the cats aka the children out the house.

This morning I had one poached egg on a warburtons brown thin with 2 slices (30g) of smoked salmon which was 211 calories and was lovely and kept me full until lunch.

lastqueenofscotland · 25/01/2021 21:13

Beans or mushrooms on toast for me

Angbunnyboo · 25/01/2021 22:18

Avocado on rye bread with turkey ham, turkey breast or smoked salmon. I love this for breakfast.

Fried tomato and mushrooms with a bit of chopped bacon on toast.

I hate eggs so never eat them but the above can be adapted so you can have egg.

drspouse · 25/01/2021 23:28

Have more for breakfast so you aren't hungry later? 5% yoghurt and muesli, 2 egg mushroom omelette, PB on toast - all my staples.

waynesbluestreak · 26/01/2021 08:20

Poached egg on crumpet this morning was doable between making the kids porridge. Day off tomorrow so time for an omlette. Think I just need to be organised

I do a microwaved egg omelette. Some veg(can use leftovers from dinner the night before, otherwise chop fresh veg small) such as onion, mushroom, red pepper. Dumped in mug with some pepper, herbs, soy sauce, hot sauce, whatever I'm in the mood for. Add an egg and whisk round a bit with a fork. Microwave 40 seconds, another quick stir, microwave again another 40 seconds.

It's pretty decent for something that takes 3 minutes total even if you do fresh veg.
