Daily weighing - good or bad?

I think good because otherwise I can live in denial...

But I don't know how healthy that actually is.

I weigh daily, partly because if I thought I had done really well for a week then the scales did not show it then I guarantee I would go completely off the wagon Blush

SilentlyLaughing · 02/01/2021 14:14

I do it.
It’s helped me lose 3 stone and keep it off. Drives DH mad though but, without weighing, it’s easy for portion sizes to creep up.
It’s probably bad to be so obsessive though, and I am obsessive. DH dished up last week and hadn’t weighed it. I took it back through to the kitchen, put a clean plate on the scales and weighed it item by item.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 02/01/2021 14:14

I can't. I tried. I think it depends on how your weight moves.
Example
100, 100 (drinking that night), 103.5, 103, 102, 100, 99. 🤷🏻

BoogieFeet · 02/01/2021 14:15

Depends on an individual’s personality I think. Daily is best for me.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 02/01/2021 14:15

Forgot to say. So i do weekly. And even then it's sometimes ridiculous. Like 100, 99, 98, 98, 96, 96, 94, 94...🤦

SilentlyLaughing · 02/01/2021 14:26

Oh! I thought you meant weighing food Grin

Yes, in the beginning I weighed myself daily. Now I do it once a week, a couple of times at most. Just so I know if I need to rein it in or not.

WitchesBritchesPumpkinPants · 02/01/2021 14:34

I do. When it goes down I feel motivated, when it goes up I scowl start it, in hope it understands that's unacceptable behaviour!!

My weight can change a LOT day to day though, so I'm not sure why I bother really. I'm not right now as I'm hanging a wee break over Christmas/New Year.

Do what works for YOU.

I like to weigh daily at the same time each day (after waking and going to the loo, while in my PJs). The routine suits me and I graph the trends. BUT you have to accept that there can be wild fluctuations and it's not for everyone. I can put on 5lb overnight after a Chinese meal.

Gemma2019 · 02/01/2021 14:46

I weigh myself daily as I use the Noom app (now on the maintaining stage but still do it as it is too easy for me to fall off the wagon). I find it much better seeing the daily fluctuations rather than waiting to weigh once a week and obsessing about it.

RumHoney · 02/01/2021 14:47

I do it with a weight trending app while lets you focus on trends rather than just the day to day figures

randomsabreuse · 02/01/2021 14:49

Daily works for me as I can track trends rather than sulk because bad day falls wrong. Not recording until I get to my 'acceptable' starting weight after too much Christmas chocolate...

Rainbows89 · 02/01/2021 14:51

I weigh daily. I don’t have a weekly weigh in day.

It works well for me but my weight is pretty stable. I don’t fluctuate much. I think if I fluctuated more j might avoid it.

I use happy scale to record it.

PerfectionistProcrastinator · 02/01/2021 14:55

I weigh daily because it helps to keep me on track. I don’t let the small fluctuations bother me. Some days I’m half a pound down then it’ll go back up. I tend to go by my lowest number of the week and presume that anything else is due to water weight etc.

I have smart scales that sync with a phone app and my fitbit. They tell you your weight, bmi, body fat percentage and more. And I make sure I weigh myself first thing in the morning after a wee and before I’ve had anything to eat or drink!

hillarypcof · 02/01/2021 15:00

I follow a health and fitness plan who encourage daily weigh-ins, for education more than anything. To demonstrate that weight fluctuates daily both up and down, but that over time you will see a pattern. Think of it like the stock market! Daily you may see little to no difference but over a period of time you will see that you have hopefully come a long way :)

Babybaby432 · 02/01/2021 15:05

You should weigh the same time every day then go on the weekly average. Weight can fluctuate day to day so it’s the average over the week that’s important.

Yes I agree

I weigh daily but I do not get upset if the scales occasionally go up by a couple of lb. It helps me start the day in the right mindset.
Whenever I have stopped stepping on the scales every morning, it has been the sign I was overeating and knew it, but chose not to see the numbers going up steadily.

That's me too! I never weigh when I know I've been off track.

Denial!

I wish mine was going by couple of pounds. Easily 4 kilo differences.

You should try and seem it works for many, it doesn't work for many. It's very, very individual. Good luck!
