Depressed about weight on Xmas Day

Youngatheart00 · 25/12/2020 12:28

DH took some pictures of me opening presents and I just look huge 😔

Today’s clearly not the day to start a diet(!) but I’ve got 3st + to lose, starting tomorrow and then in earnest in the New Year

Just wanted to write that down to commit myself to it, anyone else feeling this way?

@Youngatheart00 yes. I lost a lot of weight from march until september. Went from a 14/16 to a 8/10.

I went back to work in October, stopped watching what i was eating and exercising.

I got dressed the other day to go shopping and my slim clothes were so tight. I couldnt even get my jeans on

Youngatheart00 · 25/12/2020 12:36

Congratulations on your weight loss, that’s incredible!

Took some measurements yesterday and I’ve gone from a 10/12 to a 16/18 in a year. Although I refuse to buy clothes in that size so I’m just living in stretchy gym wear. So ashamed I can’t put something nice in for Xmas.

Got Xmas day zoom calls to come and embarrassed by my huge face and chins Sad

I’m the same OP. Have piled on weight since October and it’s really getting me down. In the New Year I’m going for it.

whatsoccuringnow · 25/12/2020 12:36

I get it. I'm wearing loose clothes, because nothing fits, not even the next size up stuff I bought in lockdown. I've got 2 stone to loose (I'm only 5ft) but I don't foresee myself starting until new years day.

Youngatheart00 · 26/12/2020 09:52

Decided I can’t wait until new year to start the healthier lifestyle.

I’ve just weighed in at 14 stone which made me cry. Need to get to 11. Would love to get to 10. How have I let it get this bad ☹️

AcornAutumn · 26/12/2020 09:58

I’m in the same place OP

Ironically being with my elderly mother, who eats like a bird and has no spare food in, is a kick start and I knew it would be.

So my weight loss plan effectively began when I got there. I even did a half hour workout yesterday while she napped.

It’s quite urgent that I lose the weight now so I’ll be looking at fasting days.

There are no photos of me since lockdown thank god.

I don’t even fit my biggest jeans any more. This is the biggest I’ve ever been.but onwards and downwards, we’ll do it OP!

openallthetime · 26/12/2020 10:15

hi OP, can I join? I'm going to try intermittent fasting, and apparently small things like giving up milk (any kind, dairy or non dairy) in tea and coffee makes a huge difference in terms of weight loss. So am going to try that!

Youngatheart00 · 26/12/2020 12:18

Hello both! Of course, I’ve downloaded the NHS app and will keep posting here to keep myself accountable.

Annoyingly DH has been to Tesco this morning and come back with a load more unhealthy food 😫 he can’t get his head round starting a diet until 1st Jan.

Small portions for the next week and will be doing dry January too. The booze calories have really added up for me this year.

theotherfossilsister · 26/12/2020 12:59

Hello, I also have two stone to loose. It's important as we're starting IVF soon and although BMI isn't obese it's getting on that way, and I think a lower BMI (23) is ideal if you want it to work.

I've also been really struggling this year so am going to try to loose weight by being radically kind to myself. I just need to remind myself that eating salad and salmon is far kinder than eating Indian takeaway or the Christmas chocolates.

BackToBetter · 26/12/2020 13:01

Can I join in too? I put on 2st in lockdown, already had a stone to lose... so it’s 3st for me too :(

Booze is playing a big part, plus inactivity and snacking. Going to bin/give away a lot of the unhealthy stuff today and eat lots of fruit/veg today to make up for last couple of days :)

I think I need to meal plan, especially once I get back to work

wishingitwasfriday · 26/12/2020 13:06

Just to say that I lost 2.5 stone earlier this year I. 12 twelves on the fast 800 plan. It's brilliant and I'm doing another 6-8 weeks in the new year and I hope I'll then be at my goal weight. Ive never been able to lose the weight before, tried everything, but this has just slotted into my life and become my new way of eating.
Good luck, you can do it!

Youngatheart00 · 26/12/2020 13:29

@theotherfossilsister we are hoping to do a 3rd (and final) round of IVF in the spring too and BMI has now crept to 31 😫 so have every incentive to bring it down.

Will have a look into the intermittent fasting programmes. I’m not a great cook or very creative with meal prep which is a problem, so for me it is easier to just cut down on the hours I can eat, makes sense!

theotherfossilsister · 26/12/2020 13:51

Ah, it's so hard isn't it? I'm pretty sure that my inability to carry a pregnancy (1early loss in over two years trying) has knocked my self esteem and made me take less care of myself, which works against what we want to achieve.

I need to get slim for the IVF but at the same time I want to do it for myself so I don't feel resentful if it fails.

I really want to go for a short run today but the weather is horrible.

AuldFox · 26/12/2020 14:06

We had a pre Christmas thread on this forum, which was great for accountability and helped me lose a bit of weight. We were all doing our own way of losing. I’ll certainly be joining again in January to lose some more!

AcornAutumn · 26/12/2020 14:59

Those posters mentioning the weather

I live in a small flat and it’s not great for mental health either when you can’t go outside

I’ve found Jessica Smith really helpful. She has all kinds of workouts on YouTube, including walking ones and faster aerobic ons you can without making a noise to bother your downstairs neighbors, weights and resistance etc and as she says...as long as you’re moving, you’re lapping everyone on the couch! There’s all levels so hopefully that will be useful info for someone.

mistermagpie · 26/12/2020 15:08

I felt like this last Christmas. I actually cried before I went on one night out (remember those?!) because I felt so bad about myself.

I started dieting on the 1st January and by this Christmas I was at my goal weight and looking better than ever. You can do it! I did it slowly, it probably took 9 months to lose the weight, but it was very easy to stick to.

theotherfossilsister · 26/12/2020 15:39

That sounds really good @AcornAutumn

I have been so utterly lazy today and justifying it with 'everyone else is doing the same' but that doesn't really work or help me at all.

Chocolate1992 · 26/12/2020 15:45

Also feeing like an absolute whale but at 7 months pregnant.. I have a while till I can get rid of the triple chins, but I won’t go out anywhere this fat Blush

Welshgal85 · 26/12/2020 17:33

Eurgh I feel the same at the moment, this year has just wrecked my motivation. Before lockdown I would go the the gym a few times a week after work and do classes but haven’t been since Feb as can’t travel there due to restrictions and I have a health condition so have wanted to not take any chances with Covid. I have done some exercise at home but not as much as I would usually do and been comforting eating! We both love cooking and make all our meals from scratch but I think our portions are a bit bigger than they should be too.

My DP is lovely but he isnt the best influence tbh as he buys treats all the time and I have crap willpower to say no to them. I need to make a plan then stick to it! We’ve agreed we want to be a lot healthier from January onwards but we said that last year!

LosingItInLockdown · 26/12/2020 21:36

I feel the same OP. I’m really hoping I will have a better year food/exercise-wise in 2021 and that next Christmas I won’t feel so huge! My baby is now 14 months old and, despite trying, I just can’t shift the last stone and a bit. I’m going to try and lose 10lbs by Easter, which sounds achievable but is actually going to be a huge challenge!

Big hugs to everyone feeling a bit rubbish, and best of luck to those of you doing IVF in the next few months. Please be kind to yourselves because that’s a lot to go through x

lissie123 · 26/12/2020 21:46

Weight watchers is brilliant

Keha · 26/12/2020 21:47

I feel the same. I don't actually have a full length mirror in my house, but went to my in laws and saw myself in the bathroom and was quite shocked. I'm 14 stone and would like to get to 13. I have a real habit of snacking on an evening in front of the telly so am going to try and ban myself from eating after tea (or let myself have a small healthy supper at a specific time). My DH is skinny but likes sweets, so there are always some in the house. I've asked him to keep them somewhere Im not going to see as easily. And try and do a bit of exercise on an evening. Let's see how it goes....

AThousandTimesYes · 26/12/2020 22:37

Hi, can I join in here too? I will weigh in the morning but it's around 14stone and I don't want to wait til new year either, I want to be 10.5st and my main goal is that I'll be able to walk up the stairs without being breathless, stupid but most nights me and dh go upstairs at the same time and I have to actually hold my breath whilst dh goes into the bathroom so he doesn't notice how unfit I am.

mommydragon · 26/12/2020 23:10

I would like to follow this string. I have put on 15 pounds since the lockdown in March and I was already 15 pounds overweight then. I start a new job in January and although I will be working from home, I will need to go in on the first day and the employers have never met me in person. Non of my work clothes fit me. My face has broken out with spots due to eating lots of chocolate and also wearing masks 🤦🏽‍♀️ I feel so ugly and fat and am so nervous that I will be judged on my appearance knowing that presentation and appearance are some of the core values for this employer.
