I don’t want to put on weight over Xmas.

I bought lots of treats and snacks to cheer everyone up but I seem to be eating too many of them!
I’ve lost some weight recently and want to continue losing, not putting it all black on. I’m very weak when it comes to all the snacks and I need to just limit it.
Is anyone else finding themselves in this situation? What are you doing to help control yourself?

I'm a snacker too.

This probably sounds really weird, but I have to remind myself that if I don't eat them now, I can still eat them tomorrow/this week/another time. It seems to help me.

Yes I’m worried about exactly the same. Everything’s obviously a bit rubbish so I feel as though we deserve to have the treats without beating ourselves up, but I know exactly what will happen! I’m trying to fit in a couple of days of healthy meals and no snacks now, before the main few days (about 23rd onwards), then will try a few more good days before New Year. The other thing I am aiming for is to get some exercise every day, a (short) run some days, maybe a stint on the exercise bike, but at the very least a walk every day to try to get as many steps as possible.

Could you 'allocate' yourself a certain number of treats per day. That way you know you are having something but do not need to go overboard.

FatGirlShrinking · 21/12/2020 10:40

I'm probably doing it all wrong but hey Ho, it'll either work or not 😁

I have a calorie allowance of 1500, I could eat 1900 and maintain according to my TDEE as long as I do some exercise.

If I want treats around Xmas I eat them, but only if I can fit them into my allowance, so I'm having black coffee or water during the day instead of lattes and I'm making sure my lunch is very low cal, so huge plate of green veg steamed and a bit of wafer thin chicken. That way I have 1300 calories to use after lunch on a nice dinner and treats.

I will only have the snacks etc in the house from Christmas eve and everything will be eaten by the 27th. I don't want to spend 2 weeks eating chocolate and cheese and drinking baileys.

I will run each day and probably go on my peloton. Also have to dog walk every day to try to balance out a few of the extra calories. Otherwise I think I can do 3 days of overindulgence.

SlothWithACloth · 21/12/2020 10:50

Thanks. All of these make sense. I’m only having coffee for breakfast today and soup for lunch. Then I’ll allocate about 400 cals for snacks and have a healthy dinner.

I’ve lost a stone recently. I’m being fairly strict but realistic with myself. I can have what I want on the 24th, 25th and 26th and again on the 31st. I’ll be tucking in to Christmas dinner, dessert, cheese and chocolate! But other than that, no snacking and eating shit. I don’t drink now anyway, so that helps.

To be honest, this is how the slim ripple in my life raf anyway. They have treats and indulge, but they don’t take the piss and sink in to some sort of greedy month long free for all of food & booze. This year, I’m joining them!

Slim people in my life! God not having much luck with my typing this morning

Vegtovictory · 21/12/2020 11:30

I have gained two stone since March and just joined a diet thread (yeah the week before Christmas)! I don’t have a sweet tooth but crisps, bread, potatoes and wine are my downfall. I am in my 50s.

My plan is to enjoy the champagne/sparkling wine but no bread, no potatoes. I never have biscuits/cake/chocolate so that’s easy. I am going to continue with C25K through Christmas (I only started on Saturday).

In 11 days lots of people will start diet/fitness plans but I feel so bloated I can’t wait till then. I am feeling a bit better already, I think I will enjoy Christmas more if I do this.

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 21/12/2020 12:29

I’ve set My Fitness Plan to maintain for the between 21 Dec and 1 Jan. It’s giving me just about 1700 calories per day so I’m just logging things as normal. I’ve been doing 1200 calories since summer and have lost 2 stone but want to go back to losing weight for first month or 2 to lose last 10 lbs or so. I’ve deliberately not gone crazy for snacks this week but obviously will for next...

I am doing the same with addition of 27th. I lost 6 stone, it was some work so putting a kilo on will not kill me.

I am however, preparing so I am on lower than usual cals now for few days and will be between and week after. Just to mitigate the goose and cheese effects😂 it works because I zigzag them anyway so it's not that big shock to go low and then high and then back low.
