Vegan weight loss thread

Hello!

Is there a weight loss thread for vegans / plant based / nearly vegans etc, on the go already please? If not, would anyone be interested in joining me on here?

I am in need of some healthier eating habits and a bit more exercise etc. I'm not doing a crash diet or anything extreme, but I'm trying to eat more healthily and no snacks in the week, except fresh fruit and veg if I'm desperate.

I'd love some company, if anyone would like to join me.

@ratha you must've seen some changes in vegan options over 20 years!

Coconut80 · 16/11/2020 20:58

Good luck with the ww is it an app you use. Today has been better
B 40g oats and 1 tbsp pb
L 2 sl toast with pb and banana

Coconut80 · 16/11/2020 20:59

Omitted to add 2 squares dark choc x

ppeatfruit · 17/11/2020 07:36

Yes Depuis we're locked down here (between Tours and Poitiers in the lovely countryside ) . I usually travel to Eng 3 times year. I miss my mum and kids!

Have a look at Paul Mackenna's I Can Make You Thin (I hate that title but the rest of it is incredibly sensible) I lost 3 stone with it and have maintained with it and Food Combining ever since!

ppeatfruit · 17/11/2020 07:38

Oh yes and the calories in coconut/houmous are immense, theu have always blown me out so I don't have them. Annoyingly they're in every shop bought bleedin' vegan product you see!!!

DepuisToujours · 17/11/2020 08:25

@Coconut80, yes, there is an app and a website. You can go to meetings, (currently online of course), but I don't think those would be for me. Sounds like you had a great day! You're very disciplined.

@ppeatfruit, what a lovely place to be in lockdown, although yes, I'm sure you miss family in the UK. I am also far from family, although I have a sister who I can see reasonably easily. After lockdown anyway. Hopefully for Christmas!

When I was in France, I was bang smack in the middle of Paris, so it would probably not have been the best place to have to lock down tbh. Cité Universitaire probably would have been nice, but I didn't choose to live there.

Yesterday was good for me, but the first day always is for me! Need to keep motivated. I'll check out Paul McKenna.

Coconut is in everything! Especially sweet treats. I put it in pretty much every curry I make, except dahl Blush. Can't think why I'm so um...curvaceous at the moment Wink.

Good luck with the ww will be interesting to hear how it goes. Lock down in France sounds good although I live on skye so am also spoilt.
Coconut milk is one of my cooking staples and I love peanut butter are we destined to eat dull food to lose weight I hope not. Hope all ladies are on track I love seeing what you all ate in a day as I suspect I overeat. Xxx

Coconut80 · 17/11/2020 20:30

Hope you all have had a good day on track I had

B overnight oats
L 2 sl toast and jam
D green roasting tin leek and barley bake

Snacks 4 oatcakes

Would love to hear what you are all eating x

ppeatfruit · 18/11/2020 09:50

Coconut Come on to our thread on the Recipe\food site under Vegan You'll see our menus there! Grin

Depuis I bet your french is better than mine! I try my vocab. is ok . it's the grammar!!!! Oh and the accents!!

DepuisToujours · 18/11/2020 09:54

Haha ppeat, my French is very, very rusty! I have a degree in it (joint honours), so my understanding of grammar is ok, but my spoken French is appalling. Use it or lose it and I haven't used mine much recently. It does come back quite quickly when I go back to France, (and after a glass of wine)!

I was about to say the same think to coconut! There is a great thread on the vegan board, where ppeat is a longstanding contributor (me not so much). It's fantastic for inspiration or yes, to check how much people eat on vegan / plant based diets! It's called "what did you eat today for vegans" or something like that.

Hang on, I'll link.

How is everyone doing?

I have become 'that guy' and have taken a photo of my lunch. It's all free (I think) on my plan.

Veg soup with loads of grains and pulses, big orange and banana. The soup tastes nicer than it looks!

The soup looks lovely and hearty. And a glass of water good on you. X

ppeatfruit · 21/11/2020 09:07

Did you check out Paul Mackenna Depuis ? Sorry to go on but his is really the best way eating. You never go hungry because you HAVE to eat when you feel hungry. (especially at the beginning.)

DepuisToujours · 21/11/2020 09:08

Oh no, I haven't ppeat! Thanks for the reminder!

That and Food Combining, got my weight off in no time and I still do it! Not compulsively but I'm getting to the age where I have to be careful!

ratha · 21/11/2020 09:23

Is there an online version of Paul McKenna now? Used to have the Thin book and Disc but that was a couple of house moves ago!

I didn't like it because his voice creeps me out but I'm older and wiser now and will give it another go.

Just finished a 5 day detox/kick start plan with meals delivered by a local company - also had to ditch the caffeine - I liked the food but there were two juices a day and that was too much sugar by far. I'm going to try and eat like that myself without the juice, just eat some fruit instead.

Obviously I'm having a coffee right now though. There's no way I can give it up long term it's my only treat and I usually have it black so no calories.

ratha · 21/11/2020 09:37

@footprintsintheslow

Before going vegan I was veggie for many years. Happily pootling along thinking I was saving the animals. Then I one day it just hit me and from then on I became vegan.

The last few years have revolutionised the vegan food industry. Suddenly you can eat out almost anywhere without ringing ahead, there's too much choice of junk foods, loads of 'cheese' that doesn't taste like vomit, new choices of plant milk... it's the only time I've ever been ahead of a trend!

My weight issues are mental. I really struggle. I lose weight then something switches and I put it back on. I've always eaten healthily as a vegan, can be a bit old school because you had to be when I started- I eat healthy main meals and then I snack and that's what kills me. Too many nuts, chocolate, the whole pot of hummus with some carrots rather than just a quarter etc etc - and bread! I have a bread problem.

It's embarrassing as I'm an admin of the local fb vegan page and everyone but me is slim and I'm the fat vegan. Sad

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2020 10:42

raha I've discovered that you can have bread just not wheat bread! Dh is really bad with wheat so we eat spelt or kamut or Rye bread, try them and see which ones blow you out!. ( it needs to be pure ,no wheat, though. Waitrose has good varieties of those.

Chickpeas are also tricky, sorry! I make white bean/garlic dips,

Food Combining is also a great help with weight loss.

ppeatfruit · 22/11/2020 11:00

There's an app for Paul mack's ICanMake You Thin Depuis Grin

ratha · 22/11/2020 15:45

I've downloaded the audio book of Paul McKenna's Hypnotic Gastric Band - had not heard of this one before. You have to read the booklet three times over three days first then listen to the into a few times before doing it.

You also have to cut out sugar for a week first and walk at least 20 mins a day. I'd already done this so will be listening to the intro tomorrow or Tuesday.

It can't hurt to give it a go.

Since my detox last week, back on the coffee but otherwise smaller portions anyway. I have rye bread and am about to walk down local Sainsbury’s for an avocado to top it for my dinner. I think my stomach has shrunk after last week anyway but I struggle to recognise when am full so this gastric band thing could be just what I need if it works.

ppeatfruit · 23/11/2020 10:20

raha I was on a long running thread about I Can Make You Thin as I said upthread, it is a successful way of eating for weight loss. There was also a thread about the virtual band, some people liked it, but more found it difficult.

, I guess it depends on the person, like all diets and not giving up, just going back to it when you're ready, if you have a bad day or 3 !! Grin

Good luck with it .

ratha · 29/11/2020 00:24

The virtual band thing is working so far.
I got full on a piece of toast this morning which is unheard of.
Whether it lasts is something else.
