Eating kids leftovers

Help! I know the answer is 'don't do it' but when it's 5.30 and I've got to wait till 8.30 for dinner I can't resist finishing leftover kids food! It's really detailing any weight loss efforts.
I have lunch at 12/1 so by kids tea time I'm starving. Snacking doesn't seem to do the trick, not healthy snacks anyway!

Can't you eat with the kids? Or can't the kids eat later? How old are they?
What do you usually have for lunch ? You shouldn't be starving by 5,30

I eat lunch at 1:30 and I’m starving by 5:30!

Just eat your meal with the kids. Why do you have to wait until 8:30? I could never last until then. If you have to wait then maybe a bowl of homemade veg soup will keep you going for a bit. It’s low calorie (no bread obvs!) but filling enough so you don’t polish off their leftovers.

I eat dinner at 6pm because when I was commuting that’s the time I used to blow my diet up (standing at the station surrounded by lovely food didn’t help). So I started just to buy a proper dinner, then have a coffee with DH while he ate his. The weight dropped off.

I eat with my children now. They’re hungry about 5.30 so that’s when I do dinner. I never eat after dinner so it has the advantage of giving me a nice long overnight fasting window too.

As soon as they've finished squirt washing up liquid all over the food, that's what my friend had to do to stop her eating their leftovers

08.30 is too late to be having your dinner. What time do you usually go to bed OP?

LuckyAmy1986 · 17/10/2020 06:51

8.30 is very late to have dinner. Do you have to wait until then?

Start training the children to scrape their plates straightaway. Even in reception they have to scrape their plates into a bin. I think that as long as it was a game a child over 2 could scrape it into a food waste bin brought to them. Get them in the habit of doing that and putting their plates in the sink/ dishwasher. I am no MN clean freak but I don't think I would want to eat from a plate of food played with by an under 2yr old. Having said that I would try to eat earlier and then brush your teeth early. I find it is a real taboo for me to eat anything after I brush my teeth. Helps me cut down on evening snacking.

Thanks all, I normally eat late to wait for DH but I might just save his so he can eat later if he wants to. And actually eating so late I'm not surprised I go to bed too late!
Thanks everyone x
