Anyone else's weight go straight to their face?

I've been pondering on how most of my friends carry surplus weight far better than I do. When I gain weight mine goes straight to my face and stomach whereas my friends' weight tends to be more evenly distributed so they can get away with carrying extra pounds and it not being noticeable whereas my face becomes a gigantic moon and my stomach sticks right out.

Even when Nigella Lawson was quite chubby her face was so beautiful and elfin. I fall into the Renee Zellweger weight gain club - hamster cheeks the minute I over indulge. Dawn French is another example of someone whose face looks good whatever weight she is.

Anyway there's not really much point to this other than I was just contemplating my satellite dish of a face in the mirror and wishing the weight would go on my lower half which I could then hide with a long coat or something. Or wishing someone made plus size balaclavas.......

I get a double chin and look like I’m pregnant when I’m not. It’s no fun! At least it comes off my face first when I take action and lose it.

Fortheloveoftwirls · 16/10/2020 13:34

@purpledaisies yes same with me but I find it really annoying that it's impossible to hide it so whenever I relax for a few weeks the weight gain really shows whereas I have friends who can gain a stone and it doesn't show as it's evenly distributed or on their lower half so they can hide it with clothes. I've even been asked if I've got mumps before and been asked if I'm pregnant when I'm not - just by gaining a few pounds :(

Me! It’s so unfair - I’ve always said it’s so unfair as my arse isn’t in the middle of family photos but my fat face is! 😂

Fortheloveoftwirls · 16/10/2020 13:59

@MySaladDays75 same!! So annoying - the one part of you that’s impossible to hide. We need a moon face support groupGrin

I have this too, lost 32lb and the only place you can tell is my face, so it's first on and first off. My body looks the same as it did 2 stone ago.

Lottapianos · 16/10/2020 14:06

Same here - gut and face! Easing back on the sugar, booze especially, gives me a much firmer jawline after a few weeks

SchrodingersImmigrant · 16/10/2020 14:19

Chinsssss. I am so envious of others who even if larger than me have a neck and not a continuous giant "chin"...
Massaging neck and jaw area seems to help

Fortheloveoftwirls · 16/10/2020 15:01

We're growing in number - I don't feel quite so alone now. Photos are the worst thing as they're two dimensional and make a big face look twice as big. If anyone has any tips on how to angle your head to minimise the chins and cheeks I'd love to hear them!

Yep, same here...oh and the 3 chins Shock

Justcurious93 · 16/10/2020 15:06

I 100% feel your pain. I’m quite petite so literally look tiny with a pregnant belly and a fat face 🙈

I turn around😂 100% effective.

Different lenses show face differently apparently so make sure it's only certain camera taking pictures😁

Fortheloveoftwirls · 16/10/2020 15:27

@SchrodingersImmigrant that's good to know - in some photos I look far worse than others. And when I've been drinking and bleary eyes and a red face are thrown in for good measure the results are truly terrifying. I live in fear of being tagged after a night out!

The only good thing about it is it stops me getting complacent. If the weight was easier to hide I'd probably be less inclined to tackle it.

Sigh, yep it’s where I carry weight but even when I was a skinny teen I still looked fat in photos if they were shoulders up as I’ve got a face like a sodding moomin.
DH in the other hand looks skinny in photos due to his face shape even though he’s carrying an extra few stone.
Life is most unfair!

Iamthewombat · 22/10/2020 23:30

Yes, face and tum.

However, as you note, OP, it encourages constant vigilance.

Strangely, any fat I gain is disinclined to land on my ‘Deirdre’ neck. What a swizz!

Iamthewombat · 22/10/2020 23:31

I’ve got a face like a sodding moomin.

That really is funny.

sarahjessicaparka · 23/10/2020 06:43

Ha ha @BoogieFeet and @Iamthewombat I had to google what a moomin was but I am all too familiar with the Deidre neck. My face is like Moonface's from the Faraway Tree (but also with a Deirdre neck).

BoogieFeet · 23/10/2020 18:54

Thanks, it is a family affliction...my gran was actually nicknamed Moo because of it. And guess who I’m the spitting image of...
why couldn’t she have looked like Jessica rabbit instead Grin

ThatScottishGirl · 24/10/2020 12:00

Checking in as a fellow Moonface!
I wish I could learn to contour properly.
Am hoping if I lose a stone at least a quarter of it will come off my face Grin

sarahjessicaparka · 24/10/2020 12:20

@ThatScottishGirl if I try contouring I just end up with a weird stripey moonface!

ThatScottishGirl · 24/10/2020 12:25

Could we make that a new trend Smile

mangoesforever · 24/10/2020 12:31

Yes I'm
The same.
It's annoying.

Gwenhwyfar · 24/10/2020 12:35

Priti Patel is like this. I remember having to look many times to see that she was fat as her face is so thin.

I put on weight on my face, also my neck (thick neck, yuck!), also get a chunky waist so I probably have a certain body type that needs to be around the bottom of the healthy weight to look Ok.
I do have thing collar bones so they look too bony when I'm a nice size for my face and neck :(
