I think I need an appetite suppressant

I'm currently doing Fast 800 through the week, but I'm sooooo ridiculously hungry
I could eat until I vomit!

Today I had leftover chicken dinner at lunch, no potatoes no gravy

Tonight I made a carb free lasagne with salad

After this I could've eaten another meal but ended up eating a massive bag of sweet & salty popcorn and then 2 slices of toast with butter Sad

Has anyone tried appetite suppressants? Do they work?
How can I get through the day without getting to 7pm & binging

800 calories a day isn't a lot, have you considered low carb instead?

I find it's a lot easier to stick to a diet if I'm not worried about "running out" of food allowance.

valtandsinegar · 12/10/2020 20:51

I tried keto with intermittent fasting and don't think I actually went into ketosis, but I lost a lot of weight fairly easily. I was filling up on eggs, fish and veggies and was not hungry at all.

Lalanbaba · 12/10/2020 20:54

800 cal is likely to be a very small quantity of the calories that you need. Of course you are hungry!
Increase your calorie allowance, you will loose weight slower but will be easier to manage and not binge. Allowing for a better relationship with food

MozzchopsThirty · 12/10/2020 21:17

I don't have lots to lose
5kg max
Maybe I should go back to 3 meals per day instead of 2 and have a healthy breakfast

My stomach is terribly bloated too

Living off 800 calories is ridiculous, I'm pretty sure anyone would be starving in your shoes, and to suppress your appetite to allow this is just unhealthy.

Download the app MyFitnessPal and it lets you input info about yourself plus weight loss goals and it tells you how many calories you can eat per day to achieve your goals. You'll probably find that you get almost double!

Use those calories by making healthy choices, but also allow yourself occasional treats within your limits.

With MFP, you also record your exercise, which gives you more calories - it's up to you whether you eat some/all/none of your exercise calories. I always use my exercise as a kind of 'buffer', so I'll aim not to eat them at all, but then if I accidentally go a bit over I know I'm covered.

Fast 800 is a very low calorie diet (VLCD) and you will go into ketosis after about a week which suppresses hunger. The danger of these diets is you can often regain the weight once you go back to maintenance calories and your hunger level increases again.

Readysetcake · 12/10/2020 21:31

Maybe try the 16/8 fast. Bit like 5:2. You fast for 16 hours and have an 8 hour eating window. So I basically skip breakfast and eat between 12-8pm. You still have to eat healthily but I’ve lost about two pounds after a week and finding it easier than calorie restrictions.

Fatted · 12/10/2020 21:33

You need to eat more for a start OP. Then accept that your body might not actually want to lose 10lbs. Then eat healthy, proper meals and exercise three times a week.

Figgyboa · 12/10/2020 21:38

Maybe sub one of your 3 meals with a smoothie, you can make them meal-like. If you are active 800 calories is not enough, its not healthy.

FatGirlShrinking · 12/10/2020 21:39

You aren't eating enough, fast 800 type diets were designed for very overweight people to lose a lot in a short period of time. It supposed to be a short term diet to reset metabolism.

If you really want to continue it then you need to bulk out your meals with low calorie filling veg. A big serving of green beans 40 calories for a cup full, or mushrooms 20 calories for a cup full.

I eat between 1200 and 1500 calories a day and am losing 2-3lb a week but I'm obese so have more to lose. One of my favourite lunches is a combo of whichever of these I have in the house - green beans, mushrooms, asparagus, baby corn, sugar snap peas. I cook them in the microwave (dribble of water, cover in cling film, 3 minutes).

Slice up some spring onions, 3 slices of wafer thin chicken and chuck it in with the cooked veg. 1 teaspoon of real butter, lots of black pepper and a bit of salt. 30 second to finish it in the microwave just to melt the butter. Give it a good stir.

It comes in at less than 200 calories even if you have a huge plate full of veg.

I have MFP and it's set up to take into account 4 exercise sessions per week

My hunger, tiredness etc.is affecting my ability to exercise

I do only eat in an 8 hour window already but although missing breakfast isn't a problem I find that by the evening I'm so tired, hungry and craving shit

I do meal plan & batch cook
I just wish I felt good enough to exercise

You're talking like you have an eating disorder! You don't need to suppress your appetite so that you can starve yourself. Come on.

KetoPenguin · 12/10/2020 21:56

How long have you been doing this OP? I do prefer regular keto, it might be slower but it's more sustainable and you still get all the health benefits of controlling your insulin levels.

Ilovesausages · 12/10/2020 22:06

800 calories is nothing. I
Mostly aim for 1200 and even that is hard sometimes.

I agree with the others who have suggested that it’s a bit wonky to consider taking appetite suppressants to enable this level of restriction.

Plan to eat more and it will be much easier to stick to.

BrimfulOfBaba · 13/10/2020 01:00

OP, please eat more. Your body needs fuel to function!

Have a look again at your My Fitness Pal settings. You should be having 1,200 calories at the very least. And then eat whatever you want, as long as you're within a sensible calorie allowance, though try to make healthy choices as these will keep you fuller for longer.

Look up bulk eating for ideas of meals that will keep you full, are nutrient-dense and reasonable on calorie counts. Eg chickpea and veg salads, nourish bowls, etc.

SprogletsMum · 13/10/2020 01:09

Have you tried 5:2? I struggle with binge eating but once I've done a couple of 500 cal fast days my appetite shrinks ridiculously fast. I've lost 1.5 stone in 4 weeks

RaisinGhost · 13/10/2020 05:35

I have found them the only thing that works but they have been taken off the market in the UK, haven't they? Any otc ones are just herbal, ie, placebos.

NerrSnerr · 14/10/2020 18:34

I wouldn't be able to manage on 800 calories. I have a couple of stone to lose but have a calorie defect when I eat about 1300/1400 calories a day with exercise 2-4 times per week. I lose 1-2 lbs per week so it's not quick but it does the job.
