Optimistic October

Says she, thought I would start a new thread. After yesterday's triumph, I ended up eating rubbish yesterday (lack of time and planning) and weight out for a Toby (bar snacks) last night to get my Dad out of the house to give DS1 space. Weigh 9st2 this morning, but confident that I didn't eat the 8,000 calories needed to gain over 2 pounds. Aim for the end of October is 8st13.5 (rather than .75 which was my new low yesterday), the sky is the limit

Good luck octopus with that move, I'll bet you're drained and stressed more than you realise. Be very kind to yourself today. Well done on losses, and you honeysuckle.
Monochrome, the crap days are really crap but you will come out the other side. My unsolicited advice is take a deep breath and wait it out.. Hard to see sometimes as our brain can start to panic.
I am glad I walked straight up the stairs last night when I got in, could have gone either way in a split second. I'm down another 1.75lbs so I'm at 8st 10.25 now. Hoping to hit 8st8 again by Fri but know need to be patient. I've gone back to my Allen Carr, not the comedian Grin Looking forward to my yummy lunch and glad I've added the chickpeas. Have a good day all.

IDontMindMarmite · 20/10/2020 08:43

I'm not surprised you're feeling drained but hope you're not falling ill.

I've lost 3lbs of holiday weight now. Asda online shop have completely fucked me over by running out of stock of totally basic items that I ordered 2 weeks ago now. I've cancelled it and am paying £15 more for fewer things from Sainsbury's.

IDontMindMarmite · 20/10/2020 08:44

It's only a big deal for me as we are self-isolating and normally close family are away so we have no back up.

Heygirlheyboy · 20/10/2020 08:47

Oh that is so annoying Idontmindmarmite but you've come up with a solution now. Do you have a friend who could do a shop and drop?

IDontMindMarmite · 20/10/2020 09:20

I can't bring myself to ask! I can sort it, it's ok. PILs return next week and they'll help.

Monochrome4 · 20/10/2020 09:26

Morning all. Thanks for the reassurance HeyGirlHeyBoy. I am feeling better today.

Stepped on the scales and it's gone up after having stayed the same for a week. I put it in the app and it was enough to make the trend line wiggle upwards. Then I saw exactly the same shape in the trend line 4 weeks ago, just before last period, and it was followed by a sudden drop when I actually got my period. There is a similar wiggle 8 weeks ago too, but the long term pattern is still downwards.

That's really annoying IDon'tMindMarmite. I guess we're all going to have to get used to supermarkets running out of things again, the way things are going. Now if only I could remember what we really needed last time it happened, I could make sure we have it in. But lockdown is a blur.

Best of luck to your dad Octopus37. Well done Octopus and Marmite.

TheHoneyBadger · 20/10/2020 09:34

Glad the holiday weight is dropping marmite. I remember back in lockdown virtually everything I put in my online trolley being out of stock by the time it was due for delivery. Total pita.

I did have the pint but just the one and then came home and cooked ds dinner and went to the gym.

13st13.5 today.

I should probably be stressing about not losing but with the way work has been I'm mostly just glad I'm coping with life and not gaining weight or signed off with stress. I have lots still to lose but at least the 22lbs I've lost is staying off.

Monochrome4 · 20/10/2020 12:35

Well done HoneyBadger. A 22lb loss is very impressive and well done for being under 14 today. You're absolutely right that mental health is top priority. Fortunately my mental health, although not always brilliant, is not related to my body image. However I do use food to cope when I'm in a bad way so I can only diet when my mind is in a reasonable state.

Monochrome4 · 20/10/2020 13:14

How has it taken me this long to discover what a good lunch food sweet potato is? It's only 5 minutes in the microwave! I had a 250g one and it was only 225 calories, and I had it with light cream cheese and salad leaves, and I'm feeling actually genuinely full. If I'd had a bagel (same number of calories) I'd be having an internal fight not to have a second one. And a third. If I'd had a jacket potato it would have taken an hour in the oven or 20 minutes in the microwave, and the internal fight would be about not putting butter in it.

Is there a catch? Is it really sugary or something?

Any other foods like that I should know about?

Octopus37 · 20/10/2020 13:55

Glad you got it sorted Idontmindmarmite, hate the idea of Supermarkets running out of things, really feels like we're going back in time again, grim. Dad dropped off, seems to be okish, if slightly confused by everything there, he can be quite awkward so hope the staff can manage him. Felt oddly like dropping a child off at nursery for the first time. Just managed to sort the house out, tired beyond belief. Older DS off school ill, need to go and collect a prescription for him and collect the younger one from school DS2 has football tonight, but so tired, dont think I can face going and having to wait outside cause I wont be allowed to sit in the bar with any of the other parents.

Monochrome, your sweet potato sounds like a win, counts as one of your 5 a day as well

Monochrome4 · 20/10/2020 14:29

Thanks Octopus.

Good to hear that your dad is ok. I'm not surprised you're tired after dealing with all that. Waiting outside football sounds a bit grim. Will it be dark? Flask of coffee or tea to get you through?

Heygirlheyboy · 20/10/2020 14:40

Sweet potato is a good one alright, though too much can be.. Too much! I find adding beans or chickpeas etc can work really well.

TheHoneyBadger · 20/10/2020 18:39

Good news about your dad. Hope you managed to avoid football.

I've been ravenous this evening. Scared to get on the scales tomorrow. Just focused on making it to half term

Octopus37 · 20/10/2020 18:43

Yes, didn't go to football, said I was't well, tbh really dont feel up to it. HoneyBadger, 22 pounds is loads, you should be really proud of yourself. Have eaten loads today, but feeling less active which isn't good. Nearly half term.

Oh good. Sod standing around in the cold when you're done in.

I have a manic day at work tomorrow then the gym. Then a meeting and a shed load of marking Thursday and all day in work Friday then I can collapse in a heap.

Not loving October

IDontMindMarmite · 20/10/2020 20:10

Hope you feel better soon Octopus, it's a little concerning hearing your energy levels....how's your sense of smell? I had to ask!

I have surprised myself and have cycled after work 5 days running. I managed 45 mins today and yesterday. I can't tell you how much the effing saddle hurts though, how do people do this for fun??

Unfortunately I woke up today believe it was Thursday, the rest of the week is gonna hurt....

Heygirlheyboy · 20/10/2020 20:31

Ha I thought it was Wednesday Idontmindmarmite!! I have logged for the day at just under 1300, suits fine as haven't even my minimum of 7k steps clocked up. Love that nutty egg fried rice and have a portion now for another day. A busy day here tomorrow too, is it the time of year, we all seem run off our feet?! Hoping for another little bit down tomorrow so I feel I'm shedding the gluttony of last Weds-Sat!

Hangoverstruggles · 20/10/2020 21:50

Hi everyone,

Sounds like a full & emotional day @Octopus37. I hope you feel better.

Well done @honeybadger 22lbs is amazing, and also amazing that you're maintaining that new weight. Especially we the readjustment back to work.

@IDontMindMarmite very annoying that Asda were low, but I wouldn't worry about shops running out generally at this stage. I'm work in supply chain for a supermarket and we have very few supply issues at the moment. Only area that is a struggle is toilet paper as suppliers struggle to keep up but the shelves aren't empty, not in our region anyway. I did our weekly shop today after work today and the shelves were full. Frustrating when you're stuck home and need a delivery!!

@Monochrome4 I love sweet potato in curry & soups. Also diced cold in salads!

@Heygirlheyboy sounds like you're right back in the zone

I ended at 1450 today. Little more than planned, but I did do a Hiit class.

B weetabix, coffee
L Ono oats with protein powder & berries
D chicken, crudities, tzatziki, breadsticks, loads of grapes & a yogurt
S tea, biscuit

Hoping to stay on track this week after an indulgent weekend, and ahead of half term when we'll no doubt be enjoying more treats than usual!

Lalanbaba · 20/10/2020 21:57

Evening everyone,
First day at new job and I'm knackered. But feels so good to be back at work after so long.
Also somehow this morning I was a pound lighter than yesterday, but yesterday there was cake and champagne!
B: toast and tea
L: ham sandwich, banana, mini pretzels
D: burger and chips

Heygirlheyboy · 20/10/2020 21:57

Sounds great Hangoverstruggles! I actually have a lovely sweet potato frittata recipe I must do. It's red onion fried off, wilt spinach in pan, add roast sweet potato, feta and eggs, cook until one third cooked and then stick under grill to finish. Absolutely delicious. I squirt a little honey on the red onion while cooking.

Monochrome4 · 20/10/2020 22:06

@IDontMindMarmite Your saddle should not hurt! Get it checked out. It could be one of a few things:

  1. The saddle could be tilting upwards. You can adjust this quite easily.
  2. The bike could be too small for you. When we stay with my in-laws and borrow their bikes it's really painful because their bikes are much too small for me. Something to do with sitting too low and having handlebars too low puts loads of pressure on my private parts and has even given me cystitis.
  3. The distance between saddle and handlebars could be too big causing you to lean forward and put pressure on your private parts.
  4. Your clothing could be wrong. I once had a very painful ride before realising that my trousers had a lump where seams joined exactly where I was sitting on the saddle.

I reckon you should find a knowledgeable bike shop and ask what size bike you should have and what height the saddle and handlebars should be. I love cycling and used to cycle at least an hour every day just commuting to work. I never had fancy clothing or a special saddle and the only times I've been uncomfortable have been the ones mentioned above.

Heygirlheyboy · 20/10/2020 22:24

I have had an uncomfortable saddle and assumed it was the saddle make up itself? I think now the leaning too far forward may be a thing, right at upper upper thighs. TMI Blush I have been meaning for weeks to get my bike serviced but must buy one of those rack things to bring it there first! Night night all!

Monochrome4 · 20/10/2020 23:10

@hangoverstruggles Thanks for the inside info re supply chains. Good to know we're ok for now.

I think it's time for us in the West to learn to manage without toilet paper like most of the rest of the world.

@lalanbaba Congrats on your first day at work!

@Heygirlheyboy Your recipe sounds yummy! Thanks for sharing.

Heygirlheyboy · 21/10/2020 07:07

No change for me this AM after a low burn day yesterday, 1700cals by midnight apparently, just shows you the difference moving yourself can make. This was how I lived a year ago ie little to no moving though working hard and feeling tired but now I know how it effected the gain, as well as the billions of calories consumed!! So 8st 10.25 again. No exercise day again likely as I am busy up to 9pm. Have a good day all!
B: ONO
L: ratatouille and chickpea, pear and almonds
D: chicken curry
