Can you have a flat stomach while drinking coffee?

So I've lost 2 stone since having my second baby. I've done it at a maintainable pace so I really think I can keep it off. I'm back to pre baby weight but I'd like to loose another stone really as I've always had a belly pouch. I want to be a size 10 if possible.

I think I read somewhere that coffee can give you a pot belly. Especially if drunk on an empty stomach. Is this true? I only have one or two cups a day and always after I've had breakfast. I really don't want to give up coffee unless I have to, to achieve the flatter belly I want.

So has anyone got a flattish tummy and drinks coffee? Is it a myth?

Thanks

Total myth! It might give you a big tummy if it's full of syrup and topped with whipped cream, but otherwise I shouldn't worry...

I’ve never heard that before! I think it’s a myth. I drink coffee by the gallon and have always had a very flat stomach. I’ve got 3dc.

No its nonsense. I drank at least 15 cups a day all through my 20's and 30's and had a washboard stomach. I only got fat when I started the menopause early.

I have always drank coffee non stop and was underweight at one point.

I’ve always had a flatish belly and have always drunk coffee. I know that’s just an anecdote. For belly fat I’ve found cutting sugar is the best thing and eating more protein; trying to only eat carby foods alongside some protein.

Are you doing any exercise? I think it helps enormously if you can target your core and stomach. Also helps with posture too. Jillian Michaels 30 day shred is good. Each workout is only 20 minutes and you can build up strength quite quickly ime.

If you drink black coffee then it’s a diuretic and has zero calories in it. Caffeine also speeds up the metabolism and is an appetite suppressant. So it’s not true. But if you have milk and copious amounts of sugar etc. then it will have lots of calories which could lead to an increase in weight - and a non-flat stomach.

Did I read sweetener? @RainbowFlowers try weaning yourself from them, because they alter your gut microbiome .

After a week, you won't be able to drink sweet coffee and changing your taste preferences in the long run, will help you keep your weight off.
Well done in losing it!

Extracts:
"Currently the consumption of sweeteners is increasingly popular among the population; it is believed that the consumption of artificial nonnutritive sweeteners confers certain health benefits [33]. However, other studies, such as that by Nettleton et al., 2009 [34], suggest that the consumption of these sweeteners is associated with the increase in weight and the risk of suffering from type 2 diabetes mellitus (DM2). The passage of sweeteners through the gastrointestinal tract is carried out without any modification in their own structure; this situation puts them in direct contact with the intestinal microbiota, which is responsible for regulating multiple physiological functions [3"
