Fed up of being this big

I've gained a stone in lockdown and I'm 2 stone over the weight I want to be. I eat when I'm bored/stessed (most of the time/peed off/unhappy. But I dont just eat ...I scoff and binge. Food now bores me but I still eat.
Today is the day I restart my weight loss journey. I'm kicking the binge eating, going carb free (ibs), significantly reducing the drinking and just stopping eating everything and anything in sight.
My figure has always been my best feature but I'm slowly ruining it.
Wish me luck !

good luck!
not eating when not actually hungry is a skill. I find that having other things to do with my hands is helpful. I can crochet instead of snacking on crisps.

Widowodiw · 22/08/2020 10:09

I would try fasting, only eating from midday until 7pm. Honestly it must shrink your stomach as I’m not as hungry now and last night when I ate late and had some treats it sent me funny so that’s a good deterrent. Also if you are having a bad day you can stick the only eating 12-7pm so your bad eating day won’t be as bad as if your eating all day.

I’m two stone overweight too, I’ve been struggling with looking after myself since May-ish.

I’ve given up smoking (it’s been a week and doing fine so far), trying to drink less which is very difficult. I’ve swapped wine for gin - but they go down so well!! Also attempting to not drink during the week, just at weekends.

I need to knock snacking on the head, I’m really ‘good’ all day, then after dinner I start with crisps and so on. It’s all just habit and I know from experience that I just need a few weeks doing something different and it sticks.
Good luck, hope we are both successful, being larger than you want is miserable ☹️

I'm 2 stone overweight. I'm starting tomorrow. I really can't stand pictures of myself at the moment 🙄

redledlight · 22/08/2020 10:15

I put two stone on over lockdown and feel miserable.

I worked out that I was confusing around 2600 calories a day and for someone of 5ft that's astonishing. It's a wonder I'm not bigger tbh.

Anyway, last week I decided enough is enough. I feel and look awful.

I started going for a jog/brisk walk and using my fitness pal to help my understand just how much I'm consuming. I also have an exercise bike I use for half an hour a day when possible.

I lost 3lb in the first week.

I have got my daily calorie intake down to 1,600 but could manage on less, but I'm not willing to be starving all the time.

Just make some small changes to start with and see how it goes!

redledlight · 22/08/2020 10:15

Consuming around 2600 *

growinggreyer · 22/08/2020 10:18

No one should be feeling hungry all the time. Look for low carb / fast 800 recipes and read the advice. If you increase your protein and eat real foods you won't be hungry.

HappyGG · 22/08/2020 10:38

I have a stone and a half to lose. All I've done is stopped drinking and cut out bread, pasta, potatoes and rice. I've lost over 5lb in a week (first week so prob mostly water). I can't say I'm missing anything. Eating lots of any meat and fish with salad, stir fry, meat and lots of veg. Also eating a ton of fruit and if I'm really sweet toothing it, a sugarless jelly. I've been hungry in waves but not overly so. Good luck to you x

Litthefirealready · 22/08/2020 11:40

I’ve been using mfpal too and It’s very useful to see where the calories are being hidden.
I did a virtual fun run last month, 50k over the whole month which was easily achievable for me so I signed up for 100 k this month. Shouldn’t have done that really. 100k seems so massive I just have just gone for 50 and run extra if you know what I mean, so I’ve hardly done any exercise this month. I’ve still got eight days to go so you never know 😀.

redledlight · 22/08/2020 11:59

Mfpal is very good at showing you just how much you eat without thinking.

Things like a cup of tea with sugar, couple of biscuits, bag of crisps, even some fruits are high in calories. All fine of course in moderation, but when I actually thought about what I could eat in a day it was shocking!

I've done things like halving my dinner. Instead of two muffins/rolls, I have one, or instead of 4 slices of bread I have two. So I have 3-400 calories in my lunch instead of 5-600.

I weigh my cereal instead of filling the bowl to the brim. So I have about 150 calories instead of about 300.

Just little things like that make a big difference.

Thanks to everyone who has taken the time to respond. Well done to those already on their journey, its certainly not easy.
I've completed day 1. I went for a 4 mile walk and had healthy food. There was huge temptation but I resisted. Day 2 and it's a healthy brekkie and a walk while my son bike rides alongside. We're having family over for a small celebration today, we're doing food. Foods I would love to scoff on, but I'm all or nothing so it's nothing for me except the salad bits and chicken. Oh how I would love to dive into the Indian snax/sausage rolls/cakes but its not worth it.

How did it go with the family celebration? I was totally rubbish yesterday, ended up in the services after a trip to ikea and missing lunch and had a halloumi burger, then a trip to the pub! Not cool but will try again today.

I lost 1.5 stone last year by May 2019 and loved how confident I felt and my clothes sat better on me. I’d also started running and in March I was due to run a half marathon (not fast but steady and respectable time). Since lockdown my office has been full of cake (hospital management) to get us through the long days and I’ve piled on a stone. It’s all gone on my hips and bum and my knickers aren’t comfy! I refuse to buy new knickers so I’m on a mission to recover this in the next 2 months. Yesterday I logged everything I ate (including the giant marshmallows I mindlessly ate). I’m on it. I’m done with being overweight - 5lbs over weight using bmi but seriously makes such a difference! I’m getting back to running but it’s a slog. I do find that the more I exercise the less I eat though.

Foghornleghorn99 · 27/08/2020 08:59

@Litthefirealready - family celebration went well, I had raw carrots and some chicken (no skin). Ive been trying to get clean and lean for 5 days now and I dont crave the cake/sugary treats now. Doing lots of walking, looking at starting swimming 6am before the school run. I'm WFH until Jan, I need to take full advantage of the fact i can exercise before the school run, shower and not have to spend 45 minutes doing hair and makeup like I would to.go into work.
Dont be disheartened if you fall off the wagon, grab the reigns (sp!) And get back on again, you've got this

My child saw me in just my underwear the other day. I had skimpy knickers on. He asked me if I was actually wearing any knickers because he couldn't see them ! Ie folds. I was mortified. This is my motivational reminder

Wow - swimming at 6.00 am! Am impressed, I would like to run at that time, get it out of the way but I can’t haul my arse out of bed at that time.
I’ve just had my birthday and my lovely boss made me some brownies and my fil bought me some chocs. Argh! I’m going to freeze the brownies so I can just treat myself once in a while (she has already cut them into bite size portions for me bless her).

Jadeeeeee · 27/08/2020 19:24

Good luck. Might seem obvs but stop buying junk food so then you cant eat it.
