So this is what overweight looks like?

I'm quite surprised. Checked the scales a few weeks back and I weighed 12 stone. Visited my GP for something else recently who confirmed that yes, I was quite bit over BMI of healthy range.

I've lost 7 pounds in just over 10 days. Nothing ridiculous. Just normal eating with no snacks and counting calories.

I just thought overweight looked a lot bigger than this? Scary how in 2020 we actually have a warped idea of what's a healthy weight and what isn't. I thought I looked perfectly fine but the reith is different.

Anyone else think a lot of us think what we might see as 'fine' is actually an overweight person?

I'm not a self conscious person so feel free to tell me I do in fact look clearly overweight! It doesn't bother me as I'm happily changing things. Although I'm sour about not having many luxuries anymore treat wise Angry

THAT is OVERWEIGHT?!!!!
Wish I was that fat!
You look stunning.

OrangeLavenders · 20/08/2020 10:51

I too am surprised at you being 22 stone at 5'3. Would understand I'd you had a big chest, but you're small there and your legs are slim

Oh no, did I really say 22?! I meant to type 12 stone! Not 22 Blush

Clean up the laundry on the bedroom floor you mucky puppy

LOL I'm a clean freak to the max. That's a sheet thrown out by my toddler whilst I took a quick snap and got dressed

You do carry it really well and have a lovely shape, but I agree that you do look a little out of shape but with clothes on that wouldn't be immediately obvious. 12 stone is a lot for 5'3. I'm two inches taller than you and would look very heavy at that weight. I

Bloodylush · 20/08/2020 10:53

You are carrying a bit of weight on your stomach and thighs but you have a lovely figure which is in proportion.

OrangeLavenders · 20/08/2020 10:55

I'm not so flattering with clothes on! The less the better

Hi
You have a great figure. As long as you eat well and work out I wouldn’t worry . Bmi is not that accurate .

AssamorEarlGrey · 20/08/2020 10:57

Throughout my 20s I was consistantly overweight and borderline obese according to the BMI calcs and I was playing semipro rugby at the time.

Yes, but surely a semipro rugby player measures their fitness with more sophisticated means than BMI, which is a guide for those of us, the vast majority, who aren't highly trained athletes.

Badabingbadabum · 20/08/2020 10:59

OP, I am in exactly the same boat. 12st. I am 5'6". I am overweight, not by much and losing half a stone would get me back into normal weight but I would like to weigh less than 10 again. I am on medication that slows my metabolism and stopped pretty much all exercise during lockdown. Have drastically cut back on drinking, snacks and do intermittent fasting. Have upped walking and use Fiton.

I just want my clothes to fit!

DianasLasso · 20/08/2020 11:01

Now, I'm no fashion guru, but I can see the problem is with the choice of clothes! Ditch the leggings (they only look good on women in their 20s with a very athletic body type) and the shapeless grey top (hardly anyone looks good in grey). Replace with trousers with a more defined waistline and a coloured top with a flattering neckline and a bit of fit to it! Also remember selfies always foreshorten the photo. They make me look like a bloomin' troll.

BMI is not a reliable tool for calculating someone’s ideal weight, it doesn’t account for individual differences. For example, someone who is muscular will weigh more than someone who isn’t.

BMI is used for determining where you are in a fairly wide healthy weight range. The weight range is calculated to take into account individual differences, such as muscle mass.

KingFredsTache · 20/08/2020 11:04

You are 5ft3, 12 stone and you look like that?! Are you very muscly, or you must have very heavy bones or something?

You have a lovely figure, but 12 stone at 5ft 3 is really quite overweight, almost obese (I know this as I'm also 5ft 3 and 11 stone - you look much better than me!)

Badabingbadabum · 20/08/2020 11:05

Oh, and I was also shocked to be 12 stone and overweight, my shape is pretty much identical to yours. I last weighed this much when I was quite pregnant! But like the OP, now I realise I am actively doing something about it

lazylinguist · 20/08/2020 11:06

Everyone carries their weight differently. You have lovely proportions, you're just (like most of us) carrying a smidgeon more fat than is strictly ideal. You'd only need to lose a little bit to go from a nice figure to an enviably perfect one!

Heygirlheyboy · 20/08/2020 11:10

You look fantastic. I'm 5ft2 and just over 10stone after Christmas and didn't look anything as well as that.. Amazing how we carry it differently. Some regular exercise will probably keep you in check but I'm surprised to hear you lost 7lbs in 10 days without fairly drastic measures.. That's a lot in such a short time.

AmelieTaylor · 20/08/2020 11:10

I wish I was as 'overweight' as you 🙇🏻‍♀️

Health aside

You have a lovely figured 'naked' you should 'dress' to accentuate it, you look a lot bigger in the photo with clothes on

If I had your figure I'd spend my life in a bikini 🤣

snowbam · 20/08/2020 11:11

You look amazing Smile

Gorgeous figure Smile

bigbluebus · 20/08/2020 11:13

I'm 5ft 8 and currently weigh 11st 11 which is 1/2 stone heavier than I was a year ago. Everyone tells me I'm slim but my BMI is in the overweight category. I do exercise regularly and eat healthily (mostly) and do toning weights. But I know I am overweight and struggling to lose it (between lockdown and the menopause).

TheMarzipanDildo · 20/08/2020 11:17

Bloody hell, I’m about the same height as you- you do not look 12 stone!!

Graciebobcat · 20/08/2020 11:17

I'm 13 stone at 5'7" and a similar hour glass shape- standard size 14 in clothes (i.e. not a 16 trying to squeeze into smaller clothes).

I've been trying to lose two stone for ten years, and have never been lighter than 12 stone - when I'm a size 12, but it's not helped in a way by being so fit and healthy at this weight. I eat really healthily and exercise and do all the right things but don't like restricting my food intake enough to lose weight - it's miserable.

I was 11 and a half stone when I was 16 though (but much lighter in my 20s - before I had kids) so in a way I can understand why it's difficult to get anywhere near normal BMI at 44 with endometriosis and on the mini pill. Better than worrying about weight (though I try not to get any heavier) is to just carry on being fit and healthy while maintaining the same weight. Much healthier than yoyoing around, binge eating and all the other things I could be doing.

KenDodd · 20/08/2020 11:17

You're brave posting that picture. Well done!

Deliberately only read the OP. Let me guess, lots of posters saying you look fab and don't look overweight? Rather proving your point that we have lost sight of what a healthy weight looks like.

emmathedilemma · 20/08/2020 11:19

I wear a size 10, sometimes an 8 on my top half and I had a BMI of 24.9 when I weighed myself! I've lost a few kg but really struggling to shift any more without starving myself.

SonjaMorgan · 20/08/2020 11:20

A few months ago I had just edged into the obese category. I knew I was a overweight but I don't think I realised by how much.

When I am out running errands I am pretty average compared to other people I see and at a size 16 I think that is the UK average. Sometimes I travel to Japan and I feel huge. Normal clothing stores do not stock anything that would fit me.

emmathedilemma · 20/08/2020 11:20

and I don't think you look overweight, you look like a woman with good curves!

Graciebobcat · 20/08/2020 11:20

I don't think she's brave, I think she looks great and there is nothing wrong at all with being this size if you are healthy.

weneedboujiecocktails · 20/08/2020 11:21

I wish I was your overweight Grin
