Has anyone tried Noom?

I’m not sure if this has been asked before. I keep getting Facebook ads about Noom and need to lose weight. I just wondered if anyone had tried it and found that it worked.

I tried it . Failed miserably. It wants you to read a lot and do stupid quizzes and stuff every day. And tracking food etc but all American. Just all too faffy for me. Just doin 16 8 and some exercise instead. Losing weight steadily now

I've just cancelled after a week and a bit trial. I was expecting something easy to follow for someone who knows nothing about exercise and also proper meal suggestions. I didn't find the personalised plans to be any different to anything you could get for free online, the coach seems to be a bot. My fitness pal has similar functions to the noom app but it's free.

Also did the trial and knew within an hour it wasn't for me. I've heard it can be a pain to cancel but mine seemed ok.

I might do it if it were free but couldn't see the value. Basically it's calorie counting and making smart choices.. water melon rather than a biscuit, as a snack, for example. I don't need to pay a fortune to know that..

Me! I understand it's not for everyone (and I used MFP to track food once I'd gotten the hang of the Noom traffic light system) but it helped structure my loss and give a bit of support/accountability. I wouldn't use it for the food tracker though - as others have said it's a bit unreliable and pretty American.

I'm down 68lbs since Jan, from obese to middle of healthy BMI, and just fit into a whole set of clothes in size S that I ordered online! So happy.

I tried free trial, i liked it, but its far too expensive.

Branleuse · 18/08/2020 17:45

Its too american. Only has american foods in the calculator. I got on much better with MFP which is free

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 18/08/2020 17:47

If you do the trial and say you are going to cancel they offer it to you for less. I thought It was ok but wasn’t in the right mood for it at the time. It is calorie counting and green orange and red foods.

I have used it and lost loads of weight. I liked it as once you pay, you get a coach and a support goup. I would text with my coach a couple of times a week and it was a real person, not a robot. I've also used MFP which is similar for logging food. I think I was more invested with Noom as I paid for 6 months up front. I also found it had plenty of English foods , although weighted towards American foods, but you can also add foods. And the lessons are good and you add exercise as you go and change habits along the way.

not for me..I was dismayed how easily I went through my days calories..doing 16:8 now, which I find more suitable for my lifestyle

I’m a month in, 1 stone down and it’s really working for me.

It’s calorie counting and encouraging a good balance of different foods - so the red, yellow, green others have mentioned isn’t avoid red, only eat green like eg slimming world & syns but just about encouraging a better balance of food types.

But the big difference is the articles which really focus on eating habits and why we eat rather than just what you eat. This is really helping me - I know exactly what I should be eating, what a healthy diet is etc but do not have a good relationship with food. I need the psychology aspect of it.

Can’t say the coach part has really clicked for me yet but it doesn’t bother me and the rest of it makes it worth it at the moment.

The pricing seems to be completely random - different people get offered different things. I managed to get a reasonable deal in the end but it took a bit of time/effort/asking exactly the right question to get there!

Thanks all. I think I’ll stick to MFP.
