So I've finally decided to do something about my weight, it's spiralled out of control. I've done this before through SW but put it all back on.

I'm following basic, healthy eating and I am ravenous.

Here's what I've had over the last couple of days.

Friday

Large fruit salad (( melon, strawberry, banana, apple)) couple of spoons of full fat Greek yogurt. Flax seed and a drizzle of honey.

Lunch was home made carrot, and lentil soup. With 4 nairns oat cakes.

Dinner

Lentil mousakka (( I make the topping using a tub of philedelphia, splash of milk and handful of chedder)) with a large, green salad, olives etc and cherry tomatoes

Saturday

Two scrambled eggs on wholemeal toast

Lunch

Huge Greek salad with chicken breast

Dinner

Homemade beef and chorizo burgers topped with cheese. Potato wedges and salad

Today I've had

Breakfast

2 egg mushroom and spinach omelet with a sprinkle of cheese. Handful of spinach and cherry tomatoes on the side.

Lunch was homemade leek and potato soup with around a 1/4 bag of kale shoved in for good measure (( 1 large leek, 2 medium potatoes and an onion between me and my partner)) Around 4 oat cakes.

Snacks I'm just having fruit, I darent buy nuts as I end up necking the whole bag. I have around 4 cups of tea a day and plenty of water. (( at least 4 pints a day as I make a point of having one with each meal))

What the hell am I doing wrong? Portions are good, I'm not one for going hungry Blush is it my body rebelling at not getting a packet of yum yum a few times a week as a scooby snack?

Your body has plenty of fuel in the form of stored fat. It isn't getting a chance as you are giving it plenty of easier to access fuel in the form of regular carbs throughout the day. Look up how to tap into stored body fat in a book such as Feast Fast Repeat.

Nobody can tell you anything about your dinner! You aren't getting this. You need to count calories and distribute them across the day in the way that suits you best. It's not about whether each meal you have looks balanced or healthy or tasty.

TheMumblesofMumbledom · 16/08/2020 19:24

whatwould that looks a reasonable plateful but I'd increase the broccoli and decrease the rice.

I agree with that. It takes few weeks of trying what works and then it just... Works. In my experience.

But if you are trying to lose, really check the calories.

ListeningQuietly · 16/08/2020 19:26

Each 1lb of fat = 3500 calories you do not need to eat

so if you are a stone overweight, that is 14 x 3500 calories you do not need to eat

trilbydoll · 16/08/2020 19:26

Intuitive eating for me would be pasta, cheese and at least 3 chocolate bars a day. We cannot all be trusted to make healthy choices Grin

OP how big is your dinner plate? Our plates are massive and as a result our portions are too big. Although I'm not sure if that's relevant when most of it is veg Confused

wherestheotherone · 16/08/2020 19:33

Download my fitness Pal and eat the calories it tells you. Don't skimp otherwise your going to binge because your hungry Protein should be 30% of your calorie intake. Do some research on macros (protein, fats and carbs) and you must also eat some fat.

At your weight you will be burning a lot of calories, move a lot more. Track your calories (weigh everything!) and be honest.

It's simple maths, eat less calories than you need but enough to energise you. Also drink plenty of water, more than you ever think you need!

Booksandwine80 · 16/08/2020 19:35

The thing with that dinner we don’t know how big the plate is or anything. It looks like a lot of rice but I have no idea. In another post you mentioned having 100g of pasta-if that’s dry that is a LOT

HariboBrenshnio · 16/08/2020 19:36

I find it takes 3 weeks for my hunger to settle. My body is used to getting WAY more calories than it should so it rebels. If you can get through the next 3 weeks, you'll stop feeling so hungry.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 16/08/2020 19:36

Don't forget to count oil. Bloody oil calories😂

Agree with pps about water. 2 liters isn't really that much for 20 stone. I drink at least 3.

wherestheotherone · 16/08/2020 19:38

Oh and at your weight you should be eating at least 1900 calories a day if you do nothing all day. If you walk 10000 steps at a 3 mph pace add another 700-800. Honestly large people burn a lot of calories! 1200 a day and you will binge eat at some point because you will be starving.

PickAChew · 16/08/2020 19:43

Eating fruit leaves me ravenous and gives me awful sugar crashes. I feel much better on 30g of nuts than 300 calories worth of fruit. the nuts don't give me the shits like fruit does, either

Swap out the brioche bun (it's pretty much cake) for a wholegrain or seedy bun. Much more filling.

PickAChew · 16/08/2020 19:46

200 calories worth.

WhatWouldYouDoWhatWouldJesusDo · 16/08/2020 19:48

Books it was a pasta bowl which I've just resorted to measuring and it's 22cm

pick we normally would have a wholemeal or seeded bun but ds spotted these and they were a bit of a novelty because they came in 3 like a big mac. I wouldn't get them again, they were very sickly.

whattodo2019 · 16/08/2020 19:53

Your meals looks good, as in they are protein high. You might need to dramatically increase your water consumption?

I would also consider taking chromium tablets to help balance your blood sugars and a good multi vitamin.

doadeer · 16/08/2020 19:54

Goodness that portion size is what my DH would eat when he was training two hours a day in the gym. I am 100% not a MN professional undereater (I promise I have more than one slice of dominos) but I would honestly have half this potion size.

PickAChew · 16/08/2020 20:01
@PickAChew
It's not me who eats 100g of pasta or who commented on the pasta.

I'm on the side of learn how to eat like the thin person you want to be but agree that when you have a lot to lose that level is best reached gradually. I'm a big fan of my fitness pal because it avoids the 1200 calories for all thing.

Booksandwine80 · 16/08/2020 20:03

@PickAChew

Sorry, I thought you said about the number of calories in 100g of pasta, apologies Blush

It's about 350 calories. With a tomato based sauce and a little cheese that's a 600 calorie dinner. That's not ' A LOT ' as you put it. Why do people do this??
lovelymm · 16/08/2020 20:09

I'm sick of people in general saying they had 'huge' salads. They still contain calories and keep you used to eating portions that are too big.

Glamazoni · 16/08/2020 20:17

That looks like a large meal. I try to fill half my plate with veg. I’d have 50g rice or pasta (dry weight) and 100g of chicken, the rest would be veg. However I’m half your weight so it’s reasonable for you to eat more at present.

SchrodingersImmigrant · 16/08/2020 20:21

100g of chicken👀 Is that even worth cooking?
this question may be one of the reasons I am fat😂

I do usually 150g of rice or potatoes (cooked), pasta is about 130g cooked, 200-250 meat or fish and then rest of the plate veg. Less than that on protein or carb and I would be hungry soon.

Glamazoni · 16/08/2020 20:24

Looking at your menu I’d cut out the fruit and cheese because they’re sugary and fatty. Eat more protein: fish, yogurt, pulses etc. Protein makes you feel full. My secret diet weapon is plain Skyr yogurt because it’s high protein and fills you up for not a lot of calories.

Are you actually physically hungry or is it just habit and feeling “snacky”? I often feel snacky but I’m not actually hungry. As others have said, try MyFitnessPal to figure out how many calories you’re actually eating.

They don’t burn that many more calories! And 800 calories burnt by walking 10000 steps- really?! It only takes over eating by a few hundred calories a day to gradually put on weight. If you weigh 20 stone you can’t magically lose weight on 2700calories a day!
