Losing and regaining weight

Slightly depressing subject sorry! I am doing some very unscientific "research" purely for my own interest into why we regain weight after all the effort of losing it. It's an extremely common thing and I am interested in other people's thoughts about why it happens.

In my case I lost over a stone from my pre-pregnancy weight after the birth of my first child. It was a combination of breast feeding, hugely increased exercise (on my feet all day instead of sitting at a desk) and a little bit of Weight Watchers. I was very happy with my new weight and enjoyed the feeling of lightness, the new clothes etc. But then I had second child, gained 2 stone during pregnancy and only took 1 off again. This coincided with me turning 40 so maybe that has something to do with it. But I regret regaining that weight so much, I was much happier as I was before.

Any similar experiences out there?Flowers
