Painfully slow weight loss

My husband always struggles with his weight and during lockdown we are working from home, so it's been a perfect time to focus on weight loss as there's less temptation. His starting weight was around 18st 5lbs. At the start we was losing about 2lbs a week, and then it became 1lb per week.

For the month of June he switched from low calorie to slimming world. He hasn't eaten any carbs except his healthy extra B, and only has 6-8syns a day. He also walks about 4 times a week for 45mins. In the whole month he only lost 4lbs.

He had blood tests done and everything came back normal.

He's now 17st 1lb.

Does anyone else struggle like this? I feel so sorry for him because I know he is being so good, but not necessarily getting the reward.

How much have you lost?

Anthilda · 29/06/2020 11:50

Slimming world was useless for me. Ridiculously slow.

Low carb will be more effective. And monitoring things on myfitnesspal & some exercise.

It doesn’t sound too bad. Normal loss is 1-2 pounds a week and overall he’s lost a stone and 4 pounds which is good. If he keeps going it will keep coming off, as long as he’s eating in a deficit.

Shedtheload · 29/06/2020 12:42

Also he should try to walk daily at least 10,000 steps so that’s quite a bit more than he currently does.

That's very decent weight loss and probably more sustainable than very rapid weight loss. He is to be congratulated.

Lostinbooksandcoffee · 29/06/2020 12:51

What is he actually eating on a typical day, and in roughly what quantities?

Cyllie33 · 29/06/2020 12:53

That’s a good weight loss - well done him. 1lb a week is sustainable - there’s no quick fix for weight loss and this is by far the best way. By the end of Sep he’ll be another stone lighter! If he wants to improve his fitness he could try walking for 30 minutes a day.

Yep I really struggle. It’s not a simple thing to do, although lots of people will tell you weight loss is simple. I have to work twice as hard as most other people I know. For my wedding I ate no breakfast, half a chicken breast and peas for lunch and a carb-free dinner every day for months, and did a lunch time and evening workout EVERY DAY and the smallest I’ve ever been is a 14 🤯🤯🤯

Just keep going! If it’s coming off at all that’s fab.
