Stalling at weight loss

I was nearly 17 stone back in March. The coronavirus and the news report about obesity was enough to get me into gear. I'm 5 ft 4 and my bmi was 39.9.

Thankfully I cmeaned up the diet big time previously to march. I had to do some tweaking to the diet mainly around lunches but there was no major changes in the diet to do.

I limit breads and toast and right now that stuff is very limited in my diet, I don't use sugar, I don't eat biscuits or have a cheat day. I drink loads of water.

The biggest change for me for sure was breakfast time. I used to eat cereal. Now I make time for breakfast and to cook a clean breakfast. I have poached eggs with veg or sometimes salmon with vegetables. Honestly this is enough to set me up for the day and kurb any snacking. I find a poor breakfast leads to a bad day for me. Lunch for me is cheese and cucumber and celery and a yoghurt.

I swear, I don't feel deprived in any of this.

In the evenings, I have something small like a yoghurt or a vegetable burger. Something small. I'm not hungry for a big meal at that stage.

I think my diet is ok. I don't eat take aways or Chinese dinners.

I started using the fitness app that came with my phone. I began to move more and walk more. So far this month I got 280km done walking. I can walk 1km in 12 to 13 minutes. So it's not a brisk walk but it's not slow either.

I also bought a piece of home exercise equipment that I'm using every day now for cardio workouts. I bought a fitness trampoline. Some of my 280km walked was done on the trampoline or the rebounder it's called.

I do other exercises too on the rebounder. I'm doing 20 to 30 minute work outs every morning for the past 2 weeks.

Basically my weight has been sitting on the scales at 15 and half stone for the past 2 weeks with no change. It's not going down. I'm disappointed. I'm doing the clean eating. I'm doing the exercising. I started this journey back in March and I only have a little bit over a stone lost. I would ha e expected a little bit more. The medical experts recommend a weight loss of 1 to 2 lbs a week is a healthy goal to aim for.

I weighed myself this morning and I was 15 and half stone and I was at 15 and half 2 weeks ago and I'm so upset about it because I'm putting in the work.

I'm watching this with interest OP.
I was 17 stone 4 lbs on 29th April. I am now exactly 15 and a half stone and appear to be stuck. Like you I have been completely diligent, kept to my calories (in fact lower) and drank lots of water. I have not eaten starchy carbs like bread or pasta/rice. I'm also exercising.

So while I have no solution, I have the exact same problem. I'm hoping someone can help.

In the interim, I'm changing up my diet a bit and eating different foods while staying within my limits and upping my exercise. I hope it's enough.

Daisyhead08,

Thanks for your reply. I'm still hovering around 15 and half stone. I'm on a Facebook group for the rebounder trampoline and I asked a few questions over there.

I learned the trampoline is form of resistance training. What's happening now is more than likely, I'm building muscle. It was recommended to ditch the scales and use a notebook and pen and measuring tape and take my measurements, which I still didn't get around to do but I will this weekend.

I think I might be muscle as well. I feel strength in my thighs that I haven't felt before. I also took a walk the other evening and according to the fitness tracking app, I walked 1km in 11 minutes 23 seconds. Before that 1km would have taken me 14 to 15 minutes.

My pants are looser and I don't look as pregnant in my tops any more. So there's definitely something working for me.

I have jeans folded away that I wasn't able to fit into for about 2 to 3 years so I'm going to try them on over the weekend. That would be the ultimate test for me.

Hi both, congratulations on a great loss so far!

I started at 15 stone in November and now at the top end of 11 stone. Getting stuck has happened to me a couple times in my journey so far! I find I need to persevere and switch things up a little, fasting really helps me - I do 16/8 so only eat from around 2-10 pm and nothing outside of that.

Also I only do walking as my exercise so probably not building muscle as you will be, the heat at the moment makes me retain weight. For example this week I have been really strict and maintained but I know it’s just the heat and retaining water and it will come off in the next week or so. My cycle also effects it, I’ve never had a loss during the week of my period - I tend to not weigh that week anymore.

Good luck with it, the most important thing is do not be discouraged and do not give up. Maybe do a no weigh month for July and just take measurements and I bet if you weigh at the start of August you’ll have dropped a good bit x
