1200 calories but two bags of crisps - can this be ok?

Everything else was healthyish and altogether under 1000 calories leaving a couple of hundred for something else. But I had two small bags of crinkle cut mini cheddars! My willpower isn't great. Does it matter if overall calories ok?

I suggest reading the obesity code or looking into intermittent fasting. 1 calorie of carbohydrates is handled v differently to 1 calorie fat by the body.

If you’re trying to lose weight and stick to your calories it’s fine!

Your body doesn't care about calories. It will adjust your HUNGER in order to get back to its set point.

I'm listening to Obesity Code atm as well and it's excellent.

Basically @Bunchofbarnacles your body will try to get back to its set point by adjusting your level of hunger!! So sticking to your calories might work temporarily if you have great willpower.

But if you want to get behind yourself and work with your metabolic system, what you need to do is not eat fewer calories, but to eat foods that do not generate insulin spikes regularly. Insulin pushes the glycogen in to your cells and it's stored as fat.

Thanks. Will have a read. I don't have great willpower hence struggling to give up snacks. I don't find sweets/chocolate as difficult as giving up crisps. I have tried to eat proper meals so I snack less.

Since i started eating more protein and fat (which felt counterintuitive) i have felt less hunger.

Lol I assumed from your title you had eaten 2 share bags of crisps which had come to 1200 calories and that's all you'd eaten in the day! So what you had actually eaten in crisps sounds absolutely fine Grin

I suppose I felt like weight loss dieting couldn't include crisps - like it had to feel quite miserable!

Dieting can definitely include crisps BUT
A) 1200 calories is very low and not sustainable
B) if you ate 2 packets of crisps then you can't have had more than 1000 calories of real food and you will probably be starving

Find out your TDEE and deduct 500 and that should be your daily allowance.
