Help needed, 40s, feeling frumpy and unfit

I feel old and out of shape. I'm 46, I have children and work full time. I last lost weight about four years ago (divorce diet), but since then, I am content in a new relationship.

But I feel old and I feel fat. I'm supposed to getting married later in the year, but who knows if that's happening now due to COVID-19, so although I'm supposed to be getting fit and slim for my dress, I'm just not.

I've been using Noom and that was great to start with, but then lockdown happened and it turns out I am a comfort eating creature of habit, so I have inevitably gained any weight I lost.

I realise it could also be my age, I have given up alcohol, I'm watching what I eat, I'm trying to walk but nothing seems to be working.

Do any of you have similar experiences? Or any advice for what worked for you?

Thanks in advance.

Don't be too hard on yourself, especially during lockdown. Lots of us have been comfort eating! Try Following the Joe Wicks 10 day beginners series

After you have completed the 10 days, move onto this 30 day HIIT challenge series If you want to go on a diet, you could try the NHS weightloss plan? www.nhs.uk/live-well/healthy-weight/start-the-nhs-weight-loss-plan/ All the info is on the website, and it can be done alongside couch to 5k, so you could do the 2nd HIIT challenge in the morning and run at night if that would work for you?

all the best x

Thank you so much for this. I know I should be so hard on myself, but it's a bit of a downward spiral. Too much time alone, brooding on my expanding waistline!

I'm totally the same. Feel like absolute shit 😞. Compared to 4 years ago I feel like a different person, I don't want to feel like this anymore so I'm taking the bull by the horns and sorting my shit out 👊

I hear you. I just feel so old, unattractive and unappealing. Then I feel insecure and I hate that. I really don't think I have felt so miserable in years. We can do this, right?

Absolutely 👍. Come Monday I'm making some big changes, batch cooking, no wine and joe wicks are the way forward.

I've been doing IF combined with mainly keto for about a month and it has helped so much with the 'old and fat' feeling.

My body feels healthier than it has in 15 years. I haven't exercised (yet) but I feel much fitter and my mood is much better. Seems to really be helping with peri symptoms too. I feel a bit evangelical about it!
