Hello, im nervous to ask this

I've been on a strict calorie restricted diet as I am so so fed up with my weight. I started on 25th May and today I am still seeing no results and I understand it won't happen overnight but surely something should be different by now? I am really really losing all motivation I had and I'm on the brink of giving up because i feel like everything I'm doing is wrong.

I thought I could write down what i eat in a day and maybe you could tell me whether I am going about it wrong? I am also intermittent fasting whether that makes a difference

First meal - Pink lady apple and porridge made with 40g quaker oats and a carton of chocolate alpro soya

Second meal- Head of broccoli, corn on the cob and either a piece of breaded fish or some sort of quorn nugget type things (i don't eat meat)

this takes me to between 800-900 calories a day, Do i need to add in another meal? I've read you shouldn't restrict it too much, if I did I was thinking maybe egg on brown toast

thank you for reading I would really appreciate any help

I also drink around 2 litres of water a day, and try and do youtube workouts everyday (but find it difficult as I'm so unfit)

I would avoid doing super restrictive calorie controlled diets. Depending on your weight maybe aim for around 1400 cals/day.

Do you have a lot to lose? If you are being totally honest with yourself about your calorie intake I would also expect the scales to reflect a change in 2-3 weeks. remember to weigh yourself at the same time roughly and try no more than once a week to allow for natural fluctuations. Have you had no change at all?

Also in my experience you probably won’t ‘see’ a difference for a long time! I was over 13 stone and dropped to 11st but it wasn’t until I got to nearly 11st that I finally started thinking that yes I had actually lost!

peachesandclean · 17/06/2020 15:26

I do have a lot to lose yes, I think I'm struggling a lot because I'm breaking habits of a lifetime!

I have been very strict with myself and everything that goes past my lips has been recorded on my fitness pal.
I have actually been advised not to weigh myself but to measure myself instead, I was happy yesterday when i measured my waist and had lost an inch, but measured again this morning and it;s back to what it was, hence my motivation gone out the window The only slight improvement is that my nightie that was very tight a month ago is now fitting a bit looser, but i cat see why my measurements would not have changed too

thank you for replying

Weigh yourself too then maybe?

I can lose 2lbs a week on 1200 plus exercise, after 3 weeks I am reaquainting myself with my hip bones and can get back into my Jean's again after 12 weeks of lockdown.

I see weight loss very quickly, if I was eating 900 cals I'd lose much more than that, poss 3 or 4lbs a week.

There is definitely a difference if things are feeling looser, that’s great news! It’s so easy to loose motivation, completely understand. I understand the don’t weigh yourself just measure advice because muscle weighs more than fat etc. I do think of people have a lot to lose though then there is benefit to also keeping an eye on the scales. Without trying to be rude, I think measurements when you are overweight by a lot can be difficult unless you are sure you are measuring at the exact same bit so I’d maybe try and measure just once a month. An inch is a huge loss btw so congratulations!

With regards to fitness just try and build it up very slowly and you’ll be surprised how quickly your fitness improves.

thank you both, I have just ordered some scales so I hope that will help me out

I am no expert but when I diet I have more success by making smaller changes then taking extreme measures. If I had to survive on the meals in the op I would be hungry, snippy and more likely to cave in. I find I have more success by stopping eating the stuff I know I shouldn't and eating smaller portions of the good stuff.

In creasing the amount of walking I do ( fitness tracker has been the best money spent this year) means I am averaging a pound a week loss and while I won't hit my ideal weight for months and months at least I think I can keep it up

There's lots of support on the weight loss boards that I find helps loads with motivation too.

Hi @peachesandclean, I lost 22kg last year, my advice to you would be yes IF is great but for first meal of day I'd be inclined to have something like a poached egg on a slice of wholemeal toast (or beans) or scrambled -ie more protein and at lunch / dinner, the fish is fine but plain rather than breaded. Fruit is fine but for some insulin resistant people it can work against (I dont know of course if you are). And go up to 1200 and do 45mins walk a day and see in 2 weeks.

MonicaBingaling · 22/06/2020 18:46

@actiongirl1978 sorry to be nosy but what weight/height are u to see hipbones?

I can never see mine and have lost a lot just wondering when I will xx

actiongirl1978 · 23/06/2020 21:18

@MonicaBingaling hi not nosy at all!

I weigh about 9st11 and I'm 5ft6. So when I look in the mirror and tense my abs I see my hips, also when I'm lying on my back etc.

I want to be 9st8 but struggling to find the motivation for another two weeks of cal counting now.

I do have great ans though as I do TRX and lots of weight training so that might make a difference.
