Why oh why can I not shift the last stone!

I have lost about 2 and a half stone over a few years but have been stuck at the same weight for months now! Throughout lockdown, I have moved a lot more and eaten a lot less than I usually would when working! I track my calories, I'm in a deficit, I don't eat my exercise calories, I lift weights, I mix it up with cardio... why why why can I not just lose the last stone?! Even half a stone I would be happy with but nope...bang on the same lb every, single, day!
What do I have to do? Starve myself on minimal calories to just get it off?! Completely non advisable but I'm at a loss! (Pardon the pun) anybody else had this problem? What did you do? And please don't say calorie deficit, it's not happening for me unless I go under 1000 calories a day!

Have you tried intermittent fasting? E.g. 5:2 or 16:8?

BIWI · 02/06/2020 16:16

Give up calorie counting.

Intermittent fasting is worth a try.

Also, what are you eating for your calories? Are you eating a lot of carbohydrate?

I have been struggling to lose the last 10 pounds for a few months. I signed up to that Body Coach programme by joe wicks, I've lost 5 pounds in 3 weeks now and going really well. If you can't afford to subscribe it's essentially this - 5×25 mins of intense exercise (HIIT, spinning, run, mix it up but walks or pilates don't count, you need to really push yourself and your heart rate) per week + 2 low carb meals a day and one carby meal straight after working out. 2 small snacks a day (if it's fruit, it needs to be berries or sth low sugar, bananas only allowed ocasionally). Lots of water, no sugar, no alcohol. I've honestly had a great experience on it, some people don't like it as it's a lot of cooking + meal prep but I'm wfh so it's perfect.

It's just over £100 I think but the group is very supportive and I like having all my meals planned, much easier to stick to the diet if I don't have to think.

Walkingandatalking · 02/06/2020 16:48

Thanks everybody! Yeah it might be the carbs, although I've cut down, maybe I need to completely cut down to see some results. I've tried to do it all the right (traditional) way throughout but maybe low carbing will give it that last kick.

I follow 16/8 anyway... have never tried 5:2 could also give that a go!

@NewName89 would love to follow a programme but can't justify the cost at the moment!
Well done on your loss though!!

I'm in the same boat, and I'm ancient, which makes it worse.

I can only seem to lose consistently if I go below a net calorie intake of 1000. It's a pita. So I aim for an intake of 1200 and create 200 through exercise.

DoorKnobber · 02/06/2020 16:53

If you’re lifting weights is it not possible that that stone has now turned in to muscle rather than fat? Have you been keeping an eye on body measurements?

CodenameVillanelle · 02/06/2020 16:56

What's your age and weight? If you're 40+ and well into the healthy bracket then you may just need to accept your weight as it is.
It is possible that you've gained a tiny bit of muscle but @doorknobber if she's been in calorie deficit it wouldn't be more than a lb at the most.

Walkingandatalking · 02/06/2020 16:56

@DoorKnobber oh yes, absolutely have lost inches on thighs, arms and waist, but it's the jelly belly that's holding all the weight and no amount of training can shift that, it's the fat that has to go.

@CodenameVillanelle I'm mid 20s, 11 stone 2 and 5ft8

Have you been pregnant?
Have you tried spending a month eating Up to maintenance calories?

choosesoap · 02/06/2020 17:00

if you find out, tell me!
I am stuck at that exact weight too but I'm 5ft7 , and its driving me mad. I feel like I've done everything that would ever work and the body just does NOT want to give it up Angry

MashedSpud · 02/06/2020 17:06

Are you still eating the same calorie allowance as when you were two stone heavier?

Check your tdee again if you are.

Walkingandatalking · 02/06/2020 17:09

@CodenameVillanelle not been pregnant and the thought of eating up to maint calories terrifies me....

@choosesoap so irritating isn't it!!

OP posts:
Walkingandatalking · 02/06/2020 17:10

Why don't you come and join us on Bootcamp? We've only just started week 2. chat thread is here

bigbadoldbag · 03/06/2020 09:31

After trying to lose the last stone for ages, I signed up to Diet Doctor - you have to sign up, the first month is free and you can (genuinely) cancel at any time. In one week I've lost 3lbs which is completely mind blowing, given how many other ways I've tried to lose it. I'm 10st 13 now and my fighting weight is 10st. I'm 5'6". Options are low-carb (me) and full on Keto. I'm never hungry and there are loads and loads of recipes that are so easy. I actually think this will work for me if I manage to stick with it!

BIWI · 03/06/2020 10:03

Come and join Bootcamp @bigbadoldbag when your first month is up - it's free! We also have lovely recipes that are stickied in the Bootcamp topic. Smile

bigbadoldbag · 03/06/2020 10:22

Thanks @BIWI, I always miss the start so haven't thought to join later. I've looked at some of the recipes...very nice!

BIWI · 03/06/2020 10:31

Doesn't matter if you missed the start - you can join in now, and combine it with The Diet Doctor approach. (I recommend The Diet Doctor's website so much I think I should take commission!)
