Losing weight after having a baby

Help! My son is 12 weeks old. I weighed myself recently and I've gained 2 stone since getting pregnant. I'm currently breastfeeding and will do so until my son is 6 months old and may even continue after that. What is the best way to lose weight and can I start whilst breastfeeding?

Don’t diet when breastfeeding. Just fill up in healthy foods and go for long walks. You will still need the recommend calorie intake but breast feeding should burn off around 500 cals a day.

I lost weight the quickest while breastfeeding - I plateaued when I stopped. If you’re not overeating it should make a little difference? Can you up your exercise, even if it’s just walking with baby? Can your partner have DC while you take an hour to do something a bit more intensive?

It will come off you, don't worry! Healthy lifestyle is ideal, please don't restrict yourself when breastfeeding

You may find you lose weight anyway whilst breastfeeding just be eating healthily. I lost weight whilst bf ds1 even though I ate cake everyday! I was very lucky. But then I carried on eating cake once I started weaning and then gained it all again so not the best idea! With DS2 I did slimming world which is very breastfeeding friendly and worked well, however I did it too soon and again put it all back on. So ime I would wait until baby is about 1yo and then see where you're at x

The weight absolutely fell off me whilst breastfeeding, despite my diet of sausages and chocolate Grin

Are you sure you haven't already lost some weight?

I agree with PP, eat a balanced diet and you should see some good results soon.

Thank you everyone . So I'll eat healthy and wait to diet . Booked some virtual group postpartum PT sessions with some mums I met through NCT so that should help. And I have weighed myself and lost a few lbs without trying so must be the BF - the last thing I want is my milk supply to drop so I'll wait until BF is done Smile
