Meal replacement like slim fast or Tesco slim

I want to lose weight but I have zero willpower and motivation. I’m thinking of meal replacement. I did do this before I had kids and I think it helped me eat less and then I switched onto healthy eating. Anyone else has views on this? I need to spend money and buy products do please advise. Tesco slim is cheaper and less sugar. I will be using soya or almond milk so less sugar than advertised on the packs.

I don't know much about the Tesco slim but as you say slimfast used to be full on sugar . I had a lot of success with "my protein diet whey " it gave me great results but because of the higher protein content you need to drink a lot of water or you can get bunged up ( well I did ) . I've just gone back on it as like you I don't have a lot of willpower and find it so much easier. Good luck 😉

@starbonnet123

Im currently looking at my protein shakes. How are you planning to do it? 2 shakes per day and a meal?

I have a stone to loose and keep trying different thinhs but if I don't get quick results I give up.

How did you do it before and what were your results like?

@Upsidedownrightnow ,
I did 1 meal replacement.
I had porridge or over night oats for breakfast then rice cake as a snack , shake for lunch with fruit and yogurt ( thats the way I like to eat ) then evening I had salad with either chicken, salmon or prawns. I didn't eat after my evening meal and I drank plenty of water.
I'm a bread and pizza fiend, so once I got that under control it wasn't bad . I also looked at sugar content, you'd be surprised how much sugar is in processed foods.
I also snacked on cottage cheese, not the low fat as it had a higher sugar content.
I did loose a stone but it was over a few months. Good luck Smile

I think that long term, very low cal shake diets don’t tend to be that great because people don’t learn better eating habits. But something like SlimFast advanced vitality is actually not full of sugar and seems no worse or different from the protein shakes that people like Joe Wicks promote.

Like a pp said, I’d limit it to one shake per day rather than replacing two meals as that’s too drastic and too far removed from normal eating patterns. I tried a shake diet once and it was awful and just triggered bingeing.

Huel is very good and tastes nice.

I use Protein Work shakes and they're the only ones I can stick to. I genuinely feel full after them and I'm definitely usually a picker when it comes to food.

I use them with soya milk and put them in my blender rather than just shake them because I think they come out thicker and it feels more like having a milkshake compared to just "drinking a meal replacement"

Eat real food.

Aren't diet shakes full of cellulose (basically wood pulp)?

Starbonnet123 · 30/05/2020 13:47

@DemolitionBarbie you're right on that that the easiest thing is to eat less and do more but
Sometimes we need a little help to get going. The my protein shakescontain whey protein, green tea and a few other things which can all be found on the ingredients list if anyone wants look . Each to their own eh ?

Exante is brilliant - much cheaper than a lot of the alternatives

(I realise that makes me sound like a marketing bot - I promise I’m not, I’ve just used it in the past and found it effective but also affordable)
