Hey guys! Ive been breastfeeding for 6 days now after the birth of our first and I want to start losing weight when breastfeeding is established and everything is healed and settled down. How do you go about it without losing supply/quality of milk? Did anyone else manage it and have any advice? Thank you!

Congratulations on the birth of your baby and well done for breastfeeding!

La Leche league says you should aim for 1800 calories a day and not to lose more than 1 pound a week. Anything less than that and you risk dropping your milk supply.

How much do you want to lose? If you continue with the breastfeeding and eat a healthy balanced diet you will naturally lose some weight. I put on 3 1/2 stone whilst pregnant and I’ve lost 1 1/2 stone just by adjusting my eating habits so far (whilst breastfeeding). DD is 9 months now, due to lock down I’ve had a bit of a set back with the healthy eating and exercise but hoping to lose another stone at least by her 1st birthday.

Awh congratulations! I lost all my weight, about 3 stone, just through breastfeeding and taking baby for an hours brisk walk in the pram every day. Give it a few weeks, you might find you don't actually need to diet per se if you eat fairly healthy anyway.
