Not following anything and losing weight?

Hi,
This sounds like a very silly question but has anyone had any real weight loss results and success with ditching the diets like slimming world etc and just adapting a more healthier diet, having a treat when they feel like it and taking up more of an exercise regime?
I'm falling out of love with slimming world and finding it difficult to be so regimented and fearing things that are perfectly healthy because they're higher in syns or not having them as they're not a healthy extra etc.

Has anyone had any joy with just eating less, being more healthy, having a treat when they feel like it and being more active?

Thank you Smile

I think it depends on your issues around food - are you overweight because you overeat generally/eat the wrong things? I only ask because if I had a treat “when I felt like it” then I’d be constantly snacking, so I need a more regimented structure to keep me on track - I don’t do things in moderation, so I need to cut them out entirely!

If you don’t have issues with that and the occasional treat would genuinely be the odd thing, then your way sounds perfectly sensible and healthy. You may find your weight loss slows a bit - again, not necessarily a problem if you’re in it for the long haul and you think you’re less likely to waver from the plan; but just keep it in mind in case you think you’re likely to lose motivation.

Yes - I have. BUT I log all my food and count calories to make sure I am in a deficit.

I’ve lost a good few stone after having both of my children without following a plan. Just calorie deficit and exercise when I could manage it. I have looked through a friends Slimming World info and I don’t think it really promotes long term weight management once you’re off plan. I think understanding calorie content is much better!
