When can I expect change?

Bit of background.

I’m 38 and 5”10.

I was probably - dare I say it - around 13 stone but haven’t had the courage to go on the scales. Size 14 jeans.

I’m eight days into a totally new regime using MyFitnessPal.

I had already cut back on drinking (which probably contributed to my weight gain) but now I’m absolutely sticking to 1200 cal a day as well as exercising for around an hour a day.

I don’t have a starting weight but today I decided to try on a few pairs of jeans and none fit any differently.

I KNOW it’s only a week but I feel I’m living my life so differently I’d love to get an idea of when I can expect to see results. I am absolutely committed to this diet but I need to know there’s light at the end of the tunnel in the not too distant future.

If you are going to weigh daily you cannot let the ups and downs bother you. Some days you will weigh more than others. I used to weigh daily but only look at what I weighed the week before. So on Fridays, I know I am normally my lightest, but Mondays are my heaviest. I wouldn't compare my Monday weight to the Friday weight I took before the weekend because I ALWAYS am heavier on the Monday, but I will look at the Monday before and I should lighter!
Or just pick one day to weigh a week if it's going to upset you too much doing it daily.

I weigh daily but you MUST remember to look at trends, not the number on the scale.
You period can be responsible for a lot of water retention. If you've been in calorie deficit then you have certainly lost fat so the number on the scales this morning doesn't mean much. Keep at it and weigh again tomorrow, keep going.

Thank you all.

All sensible advice that I need to follow!

I’ve calmed down a bit (and gone on the scales again to ‘check’.) One reading was exactly the same - another four pounds lighter. Gah!!!

I know you’ll all understand the frustrations. Thank you for getting back to me so quickly.

I am pre period week so perhaps that is playing into it too.

Are your scales on a flat surface and with fresh batteries?

chipsandpeas · 23/05/2020 13:44

it probably will be pre period bloat - i can go up about 5lbs in the week before my period
also weigh yourself at the same time if you can as your weight also fluctuates during the day

Yes - brand new scales on a flat surface 😣

Thanks chips.
