How much weight can I realistically lose in three months?

We have a very important event in 12 weeks from today (I counted today as day one of my diet). I weigh 12st 2lb and I'm 5"7. I'm (hopefully) sticking to 1200 calories a day but the make-up of the calories will vary greatly from good days to bad days but I will stick within that. Eventually, I'd like to get down to 9st but I realise I can't do that in three months. How much can I realistically expect to lose? I'm doing intermittent fasting too, so I'll eat between 10-6 and nothing outside of this time except from water. I just don't want to be too hopeful but what do you reckon? TIA.

I've lost 8.5kg in 9 weeks doing the fast 800 so 800 kcal a day (although to be fair I've averaged about 950kcal a day if you add in some slip ups) and less than 50g carbs a day.
Sounds like not a lot of food but you get used to it!
I also do 16:8 so start eating at 12 and stop at 8 (some days it's 6pm)

I lost a stone in about six weeks doing 5:2, tho I was very busy so able to stick with it. Deffo hard to eat less in lockdown!

9st for your height us quite low if you will don't mind my saying so; I am 5ft 6 and my totally ideal goal is about 8st 12, but tbh I would be happy if I could stick at 10st 2 - which I did actually, before I moved jobs to a more sedentary role.

So I would say in 12 weeks you could reasonably get down to say 10st 12; if you manage that, have a look and a think. I bet you will actually look really good.

sorry for stupid typos

clary · 10/05/2020 20:53

argh my totally ideal goal weight is 9st 12!! At 8st 12 I'd be see through!

I lost over 16kg on the 8 week BSD a year ago. I stuck to it religiously and walked daily. It was easy once I got going and I have stayed low carb ever since - best decision I ever made.

boxpo · 10/05/2020 20:56

I think I'm being a bit drastic with the 9st @clary , I think it's more 9.5. My first goal is 10 stone which I'd love to achieve but I don't know if I can? Can I be a pain and ask what the 5:2 is? Smile

At least 1kg per week and probably more if you stick rigidly to a rapid weight loss program, eg Fast 800 and go for a proper run or bike ride every day.

In my experience weight drops off at an astonishing rate if you eat very little and absolutely smash the exercise.

Good luck!

Chicchicchicchiclana · 10/05/2020 21:07

You're not hugely overweight so your weight loss isn't going to be rapid, whatever you do.

I am about the same amount overweight and would be delighted to lose half a stone in 12 weeks but I'm over 50 and everything is about 100% harder now.

Did your hair fall out on the bsd? I did 8 weeks 2 years ago but my hair never quite recovered it's former thickness

Sorry, 5:2 is intermittent fasting, so there is lots of info and ways to do it.

What I did:
Mondays: no breakfast, fruit for lunch, salad with protein for dinner, total 500 cals
Tuesdays: No breakfast (I'm not good with breakfast), salad for lunch, whatever I wanted for dinner, total up to 1800 cals.
Weds: as Monday
All other days as Tuesday.

No alcohol, no caffeine, no sweet stuff (some people are less strict on the 5 days). I was 11st 4 when I started in October and by Christmas I was 9st 13.

It was possible in my opinion because I was a teacher and had no time to eat in the day, so I was able to maintain, for about four years in fact. Fallen off the wagon now tho 😢

MsTSwift · 11/05/2020 06:16

I went from 11st 9 to 9 st 10 in 3.5 months on 16 / 8 and daily cardio

hopeforlucky3 · 11/05/2020 06:34

I was 13st 7pb and went to 12st in 6weeks doing the keto diet before my holiday last June. I done zero exercise except my usual walking the dog.

It's basically high fat, high protein no carbs and no sugar and plenty water. I would recommend it, I've managed to keep the weight off even over Christmas when I relaxed it. I've recently went back to it but haven't weighed myself recently but I think I'm below 12st now.

@boxpo there’s a fantastic support thread for 5:2 on here with all the info etc on how to get started. It worked really well for me losing weekly, I’ve decided for maintenance during lockdown. You would likely lose a stone in a completely manageable and sustainable way-first approach to weight loss that’s ever really felt like this for me.
Good luck
