Curves Ladies Gym - Any thoughts, worth it ?

Hi, My mum has been raging about her Curves club in Cornwall and seeing as I need to get more active and lose my jelly belly I thought I may look into it.

Does anyone have any experience good or bad ?

I hate Gyms but my mum say's it's only for 30 minutes 3 times a week so it's not going to kill me with boredom. She has lost a fair bit of bodyfat so is very positive about the whole Curves thing.

I'm in Berkshire and have a few around - Caversham, Lower Earley, Yately & Basingstoke

But, I'm not sure which one to try. Can anyone help please ?

Thanks devil - that's encouraging. I know my mum loves it but she's 64 so what she thinks is great wouldn't necesarily be my idea of great

Hi I'm a personal trainer and fitness instructor. Having looked at the site and the "workout" I can't see how you can ever progress.

Yes, for someone who hasn't exercised for a while for about 4-6 weeks you may feel it, but waht about after that? Can you atke the equipment up to a harder level?

I also don't agree that working for just 30 seconds on each machine will enable you to increase the size of the muscle fibre which in turn will help you to increase your metabolic rate.

There also does not seem to be enough equipment for more than about 15 people - approx 7 of those seem to be recover stations (I guess you just walk on the board or do light jogging)?

You only gain a proper cardivascular (heart) workout by working for 20 minutes+ continuously. Even if you did in the beginning somehow do that - what happens when you're ready to progress to exercising beyond that time. It you plateau you will never see any differences.

Sorry to but a downer on it. At the end of the day it might be something you need to try (as long as they don't lock you into a long membership) and see if it makes a difference to your body shape.

Hope this helps
