Just over two years ago I got married and weighed 9 st 5. Then I had thyroid probs and lost weight and then after medication put a stone back on.

Everything is now sorted, off the meds etc and I am horrified that I am now 11 st 5!

I don't tend to eat that much really and I am pretty active, my problem I think is that I don't eat all day sometimes and then eat loads for my evening meal with a fattening pudding etc.

So, today I am going to do something about it.

I think I'll following the slimming world way of thinking. So far today have had mushrooms on toast with fresh herbs but normally I skip breakfast so am feeling kinda bloated!

Anyone else starting a diet today?

I have a ball on 23rd November so would love to be slimmer for that!

You can do it !! I lost 38 pounds doing weight watchers from Oct last year to June this year. Know you not got as long as I did but some weight loss is definately possible.

Don't go hell for leather so you get bored, be sensible, there is no excuse to be hungry.

You sure slimming world is the best option. It worked for me too but I just found that weight watchers gave me more flexibility and there chocolate caramel bars and rice pudding at 1.5 ponts each were heaven ( I was allowed 24 points a day) I suppose it all depends what your achillies heel is ?

Have a look around the shops now at dresses and try and find one you like. Try it on in a size smaller and go back in 4 weeks time and see if it fits. Its a good incentive.

Good luck.

EmmaJW1976 · 18/09/2007 09:23

Thanks 39 - I have an outfit in my wardrobe I bought last year and still can't get into, that is my incentive!

Actually, after one day on slimming world I was 5 lb lighter this morning than yesterday morning!

This is what I ate:

Breakfast: 2 slices Linseed bread, mushroom, fresh mixed herbs.

Lunch: Wholemeal roll with cottage cheese and salad and oops....a bag of French Fries.

Dinner: Spanish rice with a large heap of salad followed by low fat natural yogurt and berries.

I kept needing a wee in the night though - unusual for me - so maybe I've just lost water so far.

Don't want to sound like I'm preaching coz I have done it too, but the weighing yourself frequently is a bad thing. You can focus on it to much and if you are more today then you were yesterday it can get you down. I had to restrict myself to a mid week weigh in. Found it really helpful that my husband did it too. He could eat what he wanted during the day when he was not around but whatever I was dishing up for the evening meal was what he got. And the kids did it too, but more of a healthy balanced diet than a diet diet, if you see what i mean.

Sounds like you are not eating enough either. When I started slimming world I didnt eat enough. My body went into self preservation mode and I lost nothing the first week, so make sure you do eat enough.

Keep up the good work and keep me posted.

EmmaJW1976 · 18/09/2007 18:55

Thanks again!

I know I weight myself too regularly, I really do try and do it once a week but sometimes when someone has left them in the middle of the bathroom I just can't help but get on!

Hubby is doing it with me too but as he is a very athletic build, he doesn't want to lose any weight so he is having what I have and then adding extras on his plate. Kids are also eating what I eat but then having a nice dessert (my kids are quite skinny so I don't want them losing weight!!).

Do you think I'm not eating enough? I am actually eating more than usual but obviously, far healthier. I felt full up all day yesterday and I couldn't even finish my meal tonight.

Hope you don't mind me telling you what I had because I really appreciate the advice!

Breakfast: Linseed bread, 2 slices toasted, mushrooms and herbs.

Lunch: Chunky tomato soup, low fat yogurt, pear.

Dinner: Huge jacket potato with vegetable goulash followed by mixed berries and low fat natural yogurt (with a crushed biscuit on top!!).

Hi Emma,
Sorry not getting back to you sooner, just shipped MIL and FIL off home. Yipee, Hooray, Thank the lord !

Dont mind you sharing your intake at all. I only commented on the are you eating enough not because I can remember eating more. Are you a veggie or just sticking to green days ?

Make sure you have your milk and cheese from you allowance, and that you get plenty of protein.

Know what you mean about the scales being left out too, its sooooo tempting . When is your weigh in day?

EmmaJW1976 · 19/09/2007 15:52

I'm not veggie but have more green days than red days because I find that the red days make me feel a little sick (too much time spent on Atkins when I was younger!!).

I am having a red day today and I had porridge and banana for breakfast, tuna salad for lunch and will have gammon and eggs for dinner.

I really messed up though. While at my friends I had a twix with my coffee and then my little lad gave me a packet of crisps he didn't want and I ate them!

My weigh in is Monday and I have made hubby put them up the loft!

Help! I'm still a stone over pre baby weight and its now coming up to winter so all my summer-primark-supermarketsweep-cos-I-won't-need-them-for-long clothes are going to be no good. Going away for the weekend in a couple of weeks and thought I would fit in my old clothes for then but I won't. I have been on every diet going in the past and now my head is spinning with diets. Have been trying to do slimming world but find I lose a pound or so a week and if I veer off even slightly I seem to put weight on.
Tried the low carb high protein thing which works for me but then started feeling sick all the time with thought of eating meat/cheese/eggs.
Any advice?

EmmaJW1976 · 19/09/2007 16:06

Hi Newy

It's so hard isn't it!

When I manage to really stick to it I do find Slimming World works best for me.
I have mainly green days as I prefer them but I have absolutely no will power when it comes to chocolate!

I have done the low carb/high protein thing to lose weight quickly for an event but I find I always put it straight back on when I stop.

I am giving Slimming World a go again now because I really am desperate to stop piling on the pounds but to be honest I think it needs to be a change of eating habits forever to make any long term difference. I think low-fat, healthy food and regular exercise is the only way to keep it off.

Boring though isn't it....if only I could manage to practise what I preach!!

Good luck!

I think I'm abit eager with the free stuff like bananas and low fat yoghurts. I didn't know whether to try weight watchers as I would only be able to have so much then. I did join slimming world online though and have all the stuff now (so now fat and broke!) I have started exercising a bit so hope to increase that. I went to a step class where you could take babies and ds squawked all the way through!
Have you got the sw cookbook? I made a nice pasta dish with quark, basil, garlic and lemon which is free on a green day.

Just had some chocolate buttons - oops!

39andcounting · 19/09/2007 17:18

Dont worry bout the twix and crisps, just get str8 back to it, dont let it ruin your day. If i fell off the wagon (food and not drink, I might add) at breakfast time I used to think "oh well never mind, can stuff for ther east of the day now coz I messed up already"

Glad it was the scales you put in the loft and not your DD's !

Enjoy your gammon and eggs !

Have you discovered the Batchelor pasta mixes ? They were free on a green day if made with either water and/or some of your milk allowance. Used to have with a jacket and load of veg (made for a smelly day the next day !)

39andcounting · 20/09/2007 19:34

So come on Emma, you had a good day ? What you eaten today?

I been stuffing, due on and still unable to control the open the gob and shove it all in syndrome !

EmmaJW1976 · 20/09/2007 22:11

Oh dear 39...not a good day for me.

Started off good with bran flakes and fruit.

Didn't have time for lunch so ate bag of crisps and choc biscuit during afternoon

Had stew and dumplings for dinner. Wasn't going to have the dumplings but I gave in, otherwise it would have been good for a 'red' day.

Went to parents house tonight, they had brought me chocs back from Greece

Oh well, tomorrow is another day. Wish I had will power, I am SO cr*p!!

Thanks for asking though, I really appreciate it x

Forget about yesterday. Today is a new day.

Chuck the chocolates, they wont know !

Let me know how today goes. You weigh in on Monday so have a good hard push til then to see the benefits.

x

newy · 21/09/2007 10:56

Have done the 'scales out of reach' thing. Quite short so this works. I'm usually quite good about this but the other day I got on twice in one day so time to take drastic action. Cooking vegetable and chickpea curry tonight.

EmmaJW1976 · 21/09/2007 11:55

Hi Newy
Guess what..I took a sneaky go on my scales this morning...and the battery had gone!!!

Will leave it now til my weight in on Monday.

39 - I ATE the chocolates when my parents gave them me! I ate half of them and then practically threw them at my hubby and MADE him eat all the rest!

Right, my house is a tip so have got all cleaning products and vacuum out and am going to dance my way around the house cleaning!

Newy, I haven't got the SW cookbook but could do with it, my meal plans are SO boring! Must invest in this!

The step class with the babies sounds good though, wish I had found one of those when mine were little!

My youngest has just started pre-school, just 2.5 hours a day. I was looking forward to this time so I could do a bit of exercise but now I am walking to the school 3 times a day (8.35, 11.20 and 3 pm), I am too tired to exercise as well. It is a 20 minute walk each way and it is all up hill on the way there!

OP posts:
newy · 21/09/2007 14:48

Emma, the cookbook is good as all the recipes are 'free'. Leaving sins for dessert, obviously.
Ha, ha, hope you didn't only change the battery in the scales last week!
See the chocolates as a victory - you only ate half the box - I've been known to scoff a whole pack of biscuits before. I eat half then don't want anyone to know I've eaten half a packet of biscuits so dispose of the evidence by eating the other half!
Walking is excellent exercise, especially uphill. When you get a bit fitter, you could get some MBT trainers (although a bit pricey) or even add ankle/hand weights!
I'm so knowledgeable when it comes to diet/exercise, its just the putting it into practice bit...
Although tonight I am off to my Kung Fu class!
