Have you done this? How have you done this?

I'm 5'8" and 19st.
I know I need to eat less and move more.

I have small children and I'm still breastfeeding. Apart from the standard chasing a toddler I'm pretty sedentary. I do all the cooking, not terribly unhealthy food but probably much too much of it.

Help me give myself a kick up my huge arse please!!

I found my weight was creeping up and decided to lose two stone. But I have very little self discipline with favourite things like peanuts and wine! So I've done a combination of things which are more a lifestyle change than a 'diet' :

  • I try to notch up 10k steps each day
  • drink only at weekends - during the week I stick to water or weak squash, 2 cups coffee
  • smaller plate (really works!)
  • save any unhealthy snacks like piece of cake or peanuts for the weekend
  • more veggies than carbs each meal
  • 'fasting' between supper time and lunch time (we eat about 6pm then lunch at 12 as it fits in with schooling).
It's working, at a regular 2-3lb a week and I'm finding that I d got something to look forward to at the weekend just now!
AlwaysLatte · 18/01/2021 08:57

That's me fasting, not the kids of course!

There are over 700 posts on this thread - it started in April last year. Its moved on. Its a support thread. Go away peppy thread invaders who aren't in the process of losing weight! Its very off putting - this is a long running support thread, at least read the most recent few pages before plopping in on a 700+ post thread!

Why is this happening suddenly?

alphaechokiwi · 18/01/2021 15:05

GrinGrin lots of unasked for advice on here today!
Thank you @Labobo and @Twinkie01 for your dieting tips, but this is more of a support thread for those who have a significant amount to lose rather than asking for tips on how to do that. We already know how to do it. There are some major success stories if you rtft- including @UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme who has lost a whopping 30kg, (I reckon she knows what she's doing by now Wink).
@UntilYourNextHairbrainedScheme - how frustrating for you . Fingers crossed for some movement on the scale soon. You've done amazingly well so far, and are a real inspiration.

Twinkie01 · 18/01/2021 15:12

Wow how incredibly rude. Tosser!

The thread title actually asks for help. That is what I was giving.

It's actually my job.

I'm a PT who has experience of helping obese clients lose a lot of weight and achieve a good level of fitness.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 18/01/2021 15:41

Twinkie01 I hope you make better use of observational skills at work - if you're replying to the opening post you failed to notice that it's from April 2020, and followed by over 700 posts which you were arrogant enough to completely ignore. Failing to notice something like that, or assuming you're too important to pay attention to the people you're advising, would obviously make you absolutely terrible at the job you say you do.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 18/01/2021 15:48

Thank you alphaechokiwi . Ploppers who assume they are so wise and original that they are above checking how a long running thread has progressed 700+ posts in, before blessing the regular posters with their superior wisdom phrased as in the imperative, are the gravel in the comfortable shoe of Mumsnet.

Winningatseesaw · 19/01/2021 08:39

Hi all. I've been on holiday (I'm not in the UK before anyone freaks out!) And totally over indulged. Not sure why really. Just didn't make good choices.

Anyway the past is the past. Decided to be back on it today and I'll weigh again in 10 days to give me time to get the figure down. Still trying to crack into the 80s. That's my next goal.

Angliski · 19/01/2021 11:09

I think it’s always good to be reminded about tips and tweaks @Twinkie01 and others, I don’t take offence. My issue is more That I know what to do and have lost many stones many times, but never find a sustainable way to maintain a healthy weight. I’d be interested in your views on that.

I’ve also stayed the same at 88/9kg but I have to admit I haven’t been as neat as I could be. Toast at Brekkie has become one large slice rather than half and a few more bits and bobs that shouldn’t be there. I am going to focus today on massive veggies and salad- it’s baby Angliskis first birthday so going to have a quick cook while he is busy so I can spend the rest of the day playing and celebrating with him.

It took me five years and so much trouble to have him- it’s a big and emotional landmark.

Zebracat · 22/01/2021 13:44

The gravel in the comfortable shoe is lovely , hare. Thank you for that. Unfortunately I am needing a bit of gravel in my shoe right now. I am 104 kilos which is the point at which my back problems become really bad. In the past I haven’t always made that connection, but this time it is obvious. What I normally do is stop walking and then get even heavier. This time , I’m trying to use the pain to drive home to myself that I have to get back to weight loss. It is so ridiculous, I could lose the 4 kilos in 2 weeks, and then keep going for the next 25. Trying hard not to hate myself for being here again. I can’t do low carb or intermittent fasting. Steeling myself for low-fat, no sugar calorie counting, in the teeth of my family’s incomprehension, resistance to any change. Bleurgh.

alphaechokiwi · 24/01/2021 06:35

Good morning everyone, @Zebracat I'm sorry to hear about your back pain. Sounds rough for you. Wishing you every success. It's bloody hard getting started again, so well done for that.
I'm 95.5kg this morning, which is a 1kg loss. I'm happy with that. I'm bored and fed up with lockdown.... it's a danger point for me as I tend to eat my feelings..

Zebracat · 24/01/2021 09:52

104.1 kg and I have begun, again.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 24/01/2021 15:49

Zebracat you're 1kg lighter than you were 3 weeks ago you know? (I'm not a stalker honestly, I just wanted to ask how it's going with the son you were worried about, then thought maybe I had you mixed up with someone else so flicked back to check...)

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 24/01/2021 16:00

alphaechokiwi well done on the kilo loss!

I recently realised that I haven't had a period since I posted about having them close together, thinking it was due to wait loss... Either I've messed my endocryne system up with the weight loss or I'm possibly perimenopausal as others suggested in December, which is perfectly likely and could possibly be slowing the weight loss. Either way the weight loss is so slow now even though I haven't binged in any way... There must be a link! If my period ever arrives I'm expecting it to take weight with it!

I think I have probably list something this week as I stood on the scales at work this morning - fully dressed in jeans and a jumper, hydrated and coffeed obviously, and was 89kg there... so I'll weigh myself first thing tomorrow and see if perhaps I'm 88 at home before getting dressed and drinking coffee and water GrinBlush

Certainly not flying any more but maybe a bit of movement...

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 24/01/2021 16:00

*weight not wait, although wait is also appropriate for me atm.

Angliski · 24/01/2021 19:36

88kg here, down from 95 in Oct. another 30 to go.... went running today, feeling pleased with that. Need to cut the sneaky treats out.

Winningatseesaw · 25/01/2021 03:02

Well done everyone. I'm having a good week and feel like I'm progressing well. Not weighing until Friday and hoping I've lost something!

This weekend I've got two functions so am kinda nervous about those. Going to avoid drinking tooooo much as I find that's the slippery slope into eating a lot of sugar.

UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme · 25/01/2021 06:18

Oh 87.3kg at home this morning!

Winningatseesaw · 25/01/2021 08:22

That's amazing!!! Well done you!

Zebracat · 25/01/2021 11:22

@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme. Well done on the scales going down again. Thank you so much for that kilo. It really has helped massively. Think my head is in the right place now. I’ve given myself a good talking too. It doesn’t matter about other issues in the household or the world. This is about what I choose to put into my body, and my health. And it’s not just about my back hurting when I go over 100 kilos. I can’t spend the rest of my life gaining and losing that 5 kilos. I need to be at a healthy weight.

alphaechokiwi · 31/01/2021 08:37

Good morning lovely people - I hope you have all had a good few days. I've stayed the same this week. I'm not disappointed, I've had a good run of losses since Christmas. I didn't do anything different this week, so hopefully it's a blip rather than the start of a plateau...
@Zebracat hope you had a good week. It's really rough starting over - I've been there a lot. I think you've done well to halt things and start again quickly.
@Winningatseesaw, I hope the scales shift for you this week!
@UntilYourNextHairBrainedScheme fantastic result....I'm eyeing those '80s jealously! BTW, the symptoms you describe sound very like the perimenopause was experiencing pre tamoxifen. I think the GP can do a blood test to confirm for you.
Happy Sunday everyone.

Zebracat · 31/01/2021 14:35

Hello people, weighed 103 .4 today. I have had a good week, stuck to my plan and moved a lot more. I feel better already, walking is easier and the future somehow looks brighter. The weather has been so appalling, but today is cold but dry, so I spent 30 mins gardening. The really good thing is that I am still eating quite a lot, so if I plateau, can definitely cut back a bit more.
There is this link with insomnia and weight gain, and mine has been awful, so I’ve also been beginning to address that. But a lot comes down to positive mental attitude, and I do finally seem to get that this is my mess, and only I can fix it, and that seems to be resulting in a quiet resolve.

Zebracat that's fantastic! When you feel good about yourself its so much easier to make positive decisions 😁

alphaechokiwi thanks for the advice - it probably is peri isn't it? I don't have any other symptoms thankfully, but still no period.

Well done for not falling onto the catastrophising band wagon - staying the same some weeks is just part of it, its frustrating when people get so upset by it they derail themselves, although the frustration is understandable.

I've actually gone up this week compared to last, yet yesterday I had gone down! One week ago the scale said 87.3, yesterday 86,8, this morning 88,6kg. Its just a bit crazy and defies rhyme or reason sometimes, although it could be because I usually avoid bread but had a big crusty pumpkin seed roll and a croissant yesterday for brunch/breakfast (no lunch then 2 chicken and salad wraps for dinner - didn't eat anything else all day and only drank tap water, coffee and tea).

DC2 had to plan, set up and serve brunch, with invitation cards and a menu, for his school cookery lesson and photograph it, which meant a trip to the bakery on Sunday morning! Obviously it would have been rude not to join in and eat with the family 😝 His cookery teacher seems a bit oblivious to the fact she's making big assumptions about what the families of all her pupils can afford/ have at home - his previous week's assignent was to set the table for dinner for four including fancy folded napkins, extensive amounts of crockery and both wine and champagne glasses, and photograph it. We only have two champagne glasses - surely there are families who don't even have a dinning table!

buckeejit · 01/02/2021 11:37

Can I join in please? The other thread I'm on for folk with a lot to lose has turned into a party for one & I'm a bit lonely!

Have read some of the recent posts & will go over the others later. I may have been here at the beginning & then fell off the radar-lost over a stone at first lockdown & then piled it back with interest when I was back at work & routine.

I've always been overweight & lost most of it a few times & back on it since start of Jan. I've lost 1 stone & 2lb so far. Am calorie counting for the first time & it's so much better for me than slimming world where I just seem to find ways to cheat the system. I'm delighted with this loss & will be happier when another stone is gone & bmi down below 35.

I'm also on the thread for 10k steps a day as I said at start of Jan healthier habits were the primary concern before scales results. I hate exercise but can endure walking & listening to books!
