Atkins Diet - been on it for one day and sick of it!

DH and I started it this morning. Not even 24 hours later I am sick of eggs, cheese and meat and craving everything I can't have. I also have a stinking headache. I would gladly jack it in but DH says he is going to do it for the full 2 weeks having started it. (Willpower personified - god I hate him sometimes). How have those of you who have done Atkins successfully coped with it?

I can't do more than 1 day either I'm afraid. I'm veggie and can't see how I can lose weight eating so much cheese and eggs . My dh did stick it out (apart from alcohol) and lost 1 stone in 3 weeks. But he had me to prepare his meals etc . I am at home with too many temptations lurking in the cupboard. Calorie counting for me I think

You can have a certain amount of salads vegetables and some nuts etc. Veggie soup is nice. Do you have the books?

The headache is probably withdrawal from Caffeine or sugar. Scarey isn't it. Only one day without these and you get a headache..... I found that quite enlightening when I did Atkins. Don't forget it's only the first two weeks when your carb intake is so low, after this you up it until you hit the right level for you.

I have the willpower of a gnat. I woke up this morning with intention of seeing it through, I went and did my step class and felt so awful when I came home - absolutely knackered and terrible headache. Have had piggy out lunch with intention of getting back on own diet tomorrow (eat less, exercise more, drink less wine!). DH is sticking with it bless him.

cellulite - this is EXACTLY how I felt after the first morning of scrambled eggs for breakfast - I got to work and said 'I don't think I can do this!' but I persevered and after a couple of days actually found it quite easy - at least for 2 weeks when I lost about 10lbs which was plenty for me as I'm not that big - I don't think I could do it as a lifestyle but its good to kickstart the weight loss - don't give up!

OMG JoolsToo, I feel like a real loser now as I HAVE GIVEN UP! I have spent most of the day feeding my face with chocolate. I feel even more guilty because DH is peservering. Perhaps I should have stuck with it after all. I only want to lose about half a stone.

Thanks for that. My DH is on his third day and he has stuck to it religously. I am trying to keep him motivated but he is complaining of headaches and generally feeling lethargic. I am glad to hear that the headaches are better after the first few days and will tell him this. When should he start to feel his clothes getting looser?

Yes he's been drinking loads of water. He went running yesterday but felt exhausted due to lack of carbs. Hopefully he'll feel better in the next couple of days. I really want him to succeed, especially as I failed so miserably and it was my idea in the first place!

I'm veggie too and so have invented my own version of Atkins. I have done it a couple of times and both times have lost weight very quickly. Was down to pre-pregnancy weight (7 stone, 4lbs)less than 12 weeks after the birth doing it, so I have great faith in low carbs/highish protein. I don't believe in any diet that restricts vegetable intake, so completely ignore this bit myself. I tend to eat nothing for breakfast (never have done) and then have massive portions of raw vegetables and houmous for lunch with a couple of cubes of cheese. I have cheese and almonds for an afternoon snack and then in the evening have either an omelette / a vegetable stew with lots of pulses and beans thrown in / peppers stuffed with courgettes, sweetcorn and cream cheese / or soup. The things I would never eat are pasta, bread, biscuits, pastry, and potatoes. Following this diet I don't put on any weight, never feel hungry and feel really healthy. After a couple of days doing this the cravings for carbs are completely gone. Best of all the rest of the family can eat the same thing, but sometimes I put pasta with the stew for my dd or give her a slice of wholemeal bread with the vegetables and houmous. Good luck - the first few days on Atkins are always the worst - the first time I tried it I did restrict vegetable intake and this made me feel awful though.

I went on the Atkins in May and lost a stone by June. Didn't bother while on hols, but was strict again when we got back and lost another half a stone.I only lost another half while the kids were off on summer break, as I was eating out with them all the time.
So I've lost 2 stone in all but, could do with losing another stone, but have lost a bit of motivation.
I found the first week the worst, after that I found I had bags of energy.
It is well worth it, especially if you haven't got much to lose, it will fall off in no time.
I was a size 18-20, now I'm a 12 !!!
I've had a really short hair cut, and bought loads of new clothes. All my friends have commented on how well I look.
