Dieting and illness

I've been dieting since 1st Jan doing calorie controlled Keto. I stick to under 1300 calories and fewer than 20g of carbs. I've also been to exercise classes at the gym around 3 times a week. I've dropped quite a bit of weight quite quickly - currently 2st 7lbs down although I've settled at losing about 2lb a week now.

Problem is this is the second time in 2 months that I've been ill with either a bad cold or a chest infection. I've had to miss the gym for a fortnight as I'm feeling so rough. Is this just bad luck? Wondering if I need to up my calorie intake? I'm eating healthily but I'm just fed up of these frequent set backs. Rarely got ill before dieting. Any advice?

If you are getting a good range or vitamins and minerals in your diet, then you could either be run down, not getting enough rest, or it could simply be one of those things that happened in winter.

Might be an idea to take a multivitamin and up your vegetable portions per day.

But aside from that, it's just that time of year for illnesses. I exercise through pretty much everything.

I think it’s v possible you have put your body under too much pressure and your immune system has weakened. It always happens to me if I go too “extreme”.

And if you want to read the dangers of Paleo/low carb, I recommend “12 Paleo Myths” by Matt Stone or read the testimonials on his website of people who have lost their health by dieting.
