How can I lose weight when my fit bit says I.only burn 1300 calories a day????

I have put on around 3 stone due to the menopause.

I have really struggled with motivating myself to diet. I've had a fit bit for 2 years but have basically used it as a watch.

I'm now motivated and looked yesterday at my calories.

On a day with no exercise, so going to work etc, I burn 1300 calories a day.

Last week on one day I got to 2000 calories by doing a 2 hour brisk walk. On the day I did a pilates and dance class I got to 1850.

I go for a brisk uphill walk most days- I did an hour yesterday and burned 1600 calories.

So it seems that I am going to have to restrict what I eat quite severely which I don't think I can do. In no exercise days I would have to eat 800 calories. I can't even only eat 1300 in a day!

When I have dieted in the past, once when I was 25 and once when I gave up smoking at 34 I did it on eating 1500 calories a day to lose 2 pounds a week and it worked! But now I would gain weight doing that.

Am I right? My fit bit isn't faulty-everything seems to be measured correctly.

Any help gratefully received

I'm really active with my job. Really active. I clean for around 6 hours per day and have to move quickly because I have big houses to get through. I 'only' burn 1900 so its easy to see how hard it would be to use less if you do less active work.
I'm menopause age too and despite not eating more I was gaining a 1lb a week last year. So I cut back my food only to find I just stopped gaining weight rather than losing any.
Now I attend 4 exercise classes a week on top of my usual activity and I try and burn more calories per week rather than worrying about it on a daily basis.
I've got my weekly calorie use from 13,000 up to 15,000 and I have lost and maintained the loss of 8lb. I could do with losing another 6 so I'm trying to fit more activity in to my week and cut out a bit more crap from my diet. Its bloody hard. You have my sympathy

Cut down to 1000 calories a day by eating loads more fruit and veg and less carbs

Sounds about right unfortunately. I am a pretty active 51-year-old and I maintain my weight on 1600-1700 a day. I've decided you just can't expect to eat three meals a day anymore after the menopause.

I'm 55, 5'3" and around 11.5 stone (sadly, but on the way down!), My BMR is apparently 1366 cals per day at the moment but this assumes no calories burned by walking around, climbing stairs, getting dressed, walking to the bus stop, etc. I tend to expend around 400 calories per day on an inactive day and up to 900 on active days, I lose weight consistently (1-2lbs per week) on a diet of 1200 cals per day (or up to 1500 on active days if I feel I need it).

I can have some really nice food on 1200 cals per day and don't feel ravenous. I don't 'waste' any calories on drinks (my choice) as I'd rather eat my calories!

Good luck - you can do this! Stand up as much as you can and move - on the spot if you have to. I run 3 times per week and do weights twice.
