Why am I not losing weight

I recently decided it was time to finally make changes to myself and my lifestyle as I’m fed up of being overweight! I have around 4 stone to lose in total. I have started the C25K programme, doing that 4 times a week. I repeated week 1 and am now on week 2. I’ve started walking my dog between 4-8 miles every weekend, and I’m using a calorie tracker to track everything I’m eating. I make sure I’m in a calorie deficit every day, and I drink 2L of water each day. In the last 3 weeks I haven’t lost a single KG Angry is there something I’m missing!?

@Bigsighall I never said I am including that as exercise. I have stated a few times that I am doing the C25K fitness programme 4 times a week.

Your eating and exercise sound very healthy. Just stick at it.

Titsntats · 14/01/2020 11:12

@TheHumansAreDefinitelyDead haha previously that would have been my idea of a carvery! Especially as the one near me does the most incredible puddings Grin but this time I was a lot more restrained! 2 slices of turkey, 2 roast potatoes, a couple of parsnips and some carrots peas and green beans. I even turned down the Yorkshire pudding Shock

Now I am even more confused Blush
I am 25

@Trewser your idea of porridge sounds lovely! Is there anything I could swap the blueberries for?

@Trewser there is bloody awful advice on this thread Smile

I’m a PT and have additional nutrition qualifications. I’ve also got experience of losing 4st postpartum. Telling the OP to restrict more and eat even less is awful, dangerous advice. I eat 50g of porridge plus milk each morning; my 2yr old eats 40g plus milk each morning so it’s hardly a gigantic portion.

Everyone on this thread is well meaning, no doubt about that. It’s up to the OP what advice she takes.

Trewser · 14/01/2020 11:17

Sometimes i miss out the fruit and have a teaspoon of maple syrup. The kefir or yogurt makes it so creamy and yummy!

PPopsicle · 14/01/2020 11:19

You’re eating more than you think, that’s the normal answer.

You would’ve lost a lot of weight on that sort of calories deficit. I did the same and I’m not overweight, and I still lost 3lbs a week.

curlyLJ · 14/01/2020 11:24

It sounds like you aren't eating enough if you are exercising 4 x per week. Body will try to hold on to weight as it thinks it's bring starved! You will also be gaining muscle which weighs more.

STOP weighing yourself, go by how your clothes feel (when I took up running, I dropped a dress size with barely any change on the scales!) not a number in the scales. It's soul-destroying.

Focus on what you are eating, not the calories. Lots and lots of veg and a bit more protein from your example, especially at breakfast time - add in some milk or some yoghurt or try having eggs instead. You do also need some (good) fat in your diet, it keeps you feeling full and stops cravings. Avocados are good. Eggs are your friends too as good source of protein.
It is sugar that's the enemy, so cut back on that and any processed or white, refined carbs(opt for brown/whole grain instead)
Keep going and things will change! The Body Coach (Joe Wicks) is good if you can get hold of one of his books.

Trewser · 14/01/2020 11:24

I don't think people are telling the OP to eat less? Please don't get hung up on 20g of porridge!!

I prefer less oats and more other things for the same calories.

Bigsighall · 14/01/2020 11:26

Isn’t the c25k included in your step count?

Titsntats · 14/01/2020 11:30

@Bigsighall no the 8-10k is moving more during the daytime and walking my dog twice a day. C25K is on top of that

You can try a teaspoon of apple cider vinegar stirred into a big glass of water before each meal

And what is that suppose to do?

Trewser · 14/01/2020 11:32

It cuts your appetite and makes you feel fuller after you've eaten, I believe. Acv is allegedly very good for you. I drink it all the time!

mummaaw · 14/01/2020 11:34

Op are your scales accurate ?

mummaaw · 14/01/2020 11:35

Are you weighing first thing in the morning before you eat or drink anything ?

mynameiscalypso · 14/01/2020 11:41

I would put good money on you losing fat but also retaining a massive amount of water especially if you've just started being more active after being quite sedentary. It will even itself out in a couple of weeks, I'm sure and you'll see a big drop in the scales.

Titsntats · 14/01/2020 11:42

Sorry trying to answer all questions! I weigh first thing before eating/drinking. My scales are accurate as I’ve weighed on others all giving the same reading, and I’m not over the limit for what my scales can register.
My jeans definitely do feel looser but I don’t know if that’s just me being hopeful
I’m so fed up and confused I just want to say fuck it what’s the point and eat everything in sight but I know that won’t help me either!

Don't do that, you know it won't make you feel better. Try and relax, eat around 1600 cals a day for a week until you feel less stressed. Carry on doing c25k. You will lose weight.

Trewser · 14/01/2020 11:48

Sorry I meant 1500 a day as MFP recommends x

MashedSpud · 14/01/2020 12:03

Keep going with the 1200 calories, watch your carbs, log drinks too (even hot drinks add up) and lattes can be high calorie.
If you drink alcohol add that too.

NauseousNancy · 14/01/2020 12:22

Look up Team RH on Facebook. They have a realistic plan, and I have found it really helpful. With 4 stone to lose you definitely won’t be on 1200 calories.

Bluntness100 · 14/01/2020 12:48

Indeed there is always someone who turns up to say the advice is awful then goes on to give the worst.

Yes op, eat more. You're not loosing weight because you're not eating enough. If you think you're on eleven hundred, then can you practically double it to 2000 please, then the weight will fall off you.

Can anyone seriously believe that? I mean seriously?

mummaaw · 14/01/2020 12:56

Have you tried drinking green tea or Upping your protein intake

Dyrne · 14/01/2020 13:00

I think the trouble is people become evangelical about their diets; and in their enthusiasm think that because it’s perfect for them it’s perfect for everyone.

Not everyone can do low carb/keto
Not everyone can fast
Not everyone can be bothered with calorie counting
Not everyone wants to pay out for WW/SW
Not everyone can “just eat healthily!”
Not everyone can exercise

Some ways of eating click and fit perfectly in with work schedules, children, food preferences etc. Some don’t. It doesn’t mean that only one way of eating works and all the others are garbage, it just means that different people get on with different methods.

Unfortunately it risks overwhelming new people with contradicting advice such as “Eat less!” “No eat MORE!” “Stop the exercise!” “Exercise more!” “Forget all that and cut out carbs!”
