Anyone else got a stone to lose but can't get their head in it?

I know it's only a stone, but 2 months ago it was only half a stone and I'm very aware it'll just keep creeping up if I don't get a handle on it!

The problem is that when I get into my head that 'IT'S TIME TO DIET' then I really struggle. I'm wondering if I just need to not think of it as a big thing and literally take each meal as it comes.

Anyone else trying to shift a small amount but still finding it hard? I had a dream last night where I was at my best weight so it's been on my mind today...

Me! I would love to loose 1-2 stone, such a hard time of year to start a diet! I would love to be lighter in January than I am now and then continue the good work into the new year! How are you planning to loose the weight?

firsttimebuyer20 · 04/12/2019 12:59

@christmascrackerzz ah I'm not alone! Yes 1-2 stone would be ideal for me too Smile
And I keep thinking if I start today I could be lighter by Christmas Day/New Years etc but just really struggling to get started!

Honestly I'm not sure - one minute I think I'll just jump right into it, low cal diet and weigh every week and just get the weight off! Next I think to do it slowly, cut out the rubbish from my diet and go for a walk every night and just wait for my clothes to feel looser 🤷‍♀️

Do you have a plan? I'd be happy to do it together on this thread and hold each other accountable if it will help Grin

Yes! I have been a size 14 my whole adult life and I would love to be a 10-12! I'm 5"7 so not massive at a 14 but bigger than I want to be! I am doing slim fast to try and kick start the weight loss and keep me motivated. I'm having Quaker Oats porridge for breakfast, a meal replacement bar for lunch and a shake for dinner. I'm going to try to do this up until Christmas bar the odd day where it's not possible. On these days will try to eat normally but not over do it! It will be a good practice of will power to have a few days off I think! My scales are currently broken but I think that's probably a good thing so I'm just going to go on how I feel/ how my clothes fit!

EpcotForever · 04/12/2019 13:15

Me! I am size 12 verging on 14 and 5'8. I want to loose a stone minimum but have no drive. My youngest is just over 1 now and I want to feel comfortable in my pre-pregnancy clothes again. I seem to spend lots of time in the kitchen eating snacks and have no desire to run/yoga/gym. I just want to be smaller. I don't work so can't afford gym/slimming world either..

SocksRock · 04/12/2019 13:18

I lost 4 stone to get down to 12st12.

I am now back up to 14st2 and I CANNOT shift it. It's so frustrating.

I'm trying to go down the lots of exercise and healthy choices, but it doesn't seem to be making any difference. FWIW, even at 14st I can quite happily run a half marathon and do that distance 3/4 times a month. I just wobble while I'm doing it and I'd rather not.

But it won't shift Angry

I think I'm going to have to go back to MFP and strict calorie limits, which did work last time but I was miserable

christmascrackerzz · 04/12/2019 13:22

Yes I work with children and they eat to frequently it's so hard not to snack! I try to go out for lots of walks throughout the day so I usually manage 10,000 - 15,000 steps. I really don't have the time to go to the gym and I know my problem it's that I eat to much! I'm only on my 2nd day but finding it quite easy as I don't have to think about what im going to eat and I try to be busy throughout the day so I don't stop and think about snacking or being hungry haha!

christmascrackerzz · 04/12/2019 13:23

Socks that's amazing at least you know you can do it! How did you loose the weight last time?

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 04/12/2019 13:24

Me. I lost 20kg this year and put 10 of it back on in a few months because I went a bit mad. I'd be happy with a loss of a stone!

Currently doing an alternate day thing rather than full on dieting, because I can't be arsed. I have a vegan protein shake twice a day on diet days and veg soup + a tin of pulses for lunch. It's early days but was STARVING on Mon so fingers crossed!!

christmascrackerzz · 04/12/2019 13:28

Contessa how long have you been doing alternate days for and how are you finding it? I think I will move onto that post Christmas as it gives a bit more flexibility

firsttimebuyer20 · 04/12/2019 13:59

Oh well there's quite a few of us here! Let's all keep going together and offer some support :)

I've decided:

  • I won't weigh myself! Will just go by my clothes until I feel they're suitably loose and then will jump on the scales to see what I've lost. I've got a good idea of what I weigh now (10 stone) which I know isn't a lot but it's the heaviest I've been not pregnant and I don't want to see those numbers again.
  • I'm going to try and cut down on the snacking/sweet stuff. I've got a sweet tooth so stopping the hot chocolate/biscuits/cane etc will make a big difference for me.
  • I'm going to continue eating our usual family meals but will cut down on my portion size.
  • I'll attempt some form of exercise, even if it's just a walk, every day.

Hopefully I'll see a difference!

@EpcotForever my youngest is 18 months old, and I did get down to 9 stone 7 after having her so the extra gain is my own fault. However if I did have another child (way in the future but not ruled out!) I'd want to be at my happy weight when I fell pregnant.

I ran a LOT and stuck to 1200 calories per day (I ate half of my exercise calories back). It was hard work.

I'm currently sat eating a chocolate and coconut flapjack Blush

I need to stay away from bread products, they are my absolute downfall

mariposa23 · 04/12/2019 14:22

Hi, I don't have a stone to loose but I started the gym back in March & have lost quite a lot of weight since then.
Get any & every exercise u can it really will help!
Cut Down on carbs, not forever it's just a faster was of loosing weight, pasta & bread ect u will loase water weight quite quickly & that stone will drop off. Download a calorie counting app & just be really honest with yourself about what your eating.

ContessaLovesTheSunshine · 04/12/2019 15:15

Christmas 3 days thus far Blush one has to start somewhere! I've done it before though and it has worked well. Rigorously counting every calorie also worked well, but became obsessive - not what I want to do again any time soon...

firsttimebuyer20 · 04/12/2019 16:59

Well I've just took the kids for a walk to try and burn some energy off before bed!
I did eat a Penguin biscuit before I went which was naughty Grin but the walk is more than I'd usually do and I feel better for the fresh air.

Lasagne for tea, will make sure I have a reasonably sized portion! And nothing sweet after.

SocksRock · 04/12/2019 18:52

Currently lying on my bed waiting for tea to cook so I stay away from the bread... 12,500 steps today so far. And I've eaten porridge and a protein bar for breakfast, chicken wrap and a bircher muesli pot for lunch and the illicit flapjack mid afternoon... DH has done slow roast pork belly for tea. Need to add it all up...

EpcotForever · 04/12/2019 23:01

With the calorie counting apps do you actually weigh every ingredient? I always stumble on a sharing meal like tacos as it's all bits and pieces so adding onto my fitness Pal I always feel like I'm cheating myself.

firsttimebuyer20 · 05/12/2019 08:03

@EpcotForever whenever I've used MFP in the past I just used to go on the higher side for calories of the options that come up.
I never got so into it that I weighed everything but also didn't want to still be allowing myself more calories.
I used it religiously this way for 3 weeks and lost 5lbs last year Smile
