Is it possible to mentally retrain EA?

Just that really. I cant afford CBT or hypnosis privately and my Dr has pretty much said that there's little point going on an NHS one as the waiting list is so long and there is more severe need (which is fair enough really). I've tried a range of diets in the past but sabotage myself. I've slowly come to the realisation that I am literally eating my feelings and now, a zero birthday behind me, 5 stones overweight and niggling related health problems, nothing will change unless I get to grips with the underlying causes. Any thoughts wouldbe appreciated.

Have you asked the doctor about online courses? A friend of mine was offered one.

You can also buy cbt workbooks on Amazon

Some audiobooks can be helpful. Try the chimp paradox. I’ve found that helpful x

I found the book ‘Brain over binge’ by Kathryn Hansen really helpful. Also I’m now doing ‘Rebelfit’ which is a process which runs ‘missions’ where you learn how to stop dieting, nourish your body and gradually introduce exercise into your weekly routine. I’m six weeks into my first mission and I’m gradually getting my head around not dieting, bingeing less and exercising more.

Paul Mckenna has an 'Overcoming Emotional Eating' book and downloadable trance you could try. Laura Thomas' book 'Just Eat It' is focused on intuitive eating but does cover emotional eating a bit.

Thank you for the suggestions. I'll have a look at them now
