Summerbody · 21/10/2019 15:31

I am starting a vlcd using exante and slim and save. Want to lose 2 stone to be a healthy weight again. Is anyone currently doing a vlcd or planning to start and want to join me? Today is my day 1!!

@Vic537 I started gaining due to medication too but then got pregnant and it rocketed. 4 years and another baby later I finally need to do something about it. I hope it works really well for you.

@Sjanish33 Congrats, that’s a fab loss. Well done for getting through the first week. The hard bit is behind you.

@revolutionarybiscuitsofitaly adding ice to the shakes is a game changer. I put in as much ice as water and it makes them much nicer, plus helps with water intake.

Sjanish33 · 02/12/2019 15:38

Hi Vic

Not near target - that's just a milestone. I too put on a lot of weight through medication (steroids) I went from 60kg to 80kg in what seemed like overnight (I'm short too)

Then I stopped smoking and the weight piled up further to a height this summer of 95kg!!

I'm down almost 8kg on that so that's more than a stone off in total but I have another 3 stones more to go...

It's very hard when medication does it because you think you aren't overeating and yet if you look at food it puts weight on you. This is the only diet that's ever worked for me. I hope I can keep at it! Best of luck with it yourself!

RevolutionaryBiscuitsOfItaly · 02/12/2019 16:46

Rookie mistake just now! I thought the chocolate shake might be nice warm, so I used hot but not boiling water and shook it all up in the exante shaker. Explosion! I would say I'll do it differently next time, but there won't be a next time because I'm afraid thick warm shake just turned my stomach Envy (not envy)

Milbo · 02/12/2019 17:00

Bleugh, that doesn’t sound nice. I haven’t tried any of them warm yet. I hope you feel more human soon.

Sjanish33 · 02/12/2019 19:21

Rev in the plan I'm using I have a hot (choc) shake but I just add boiling water like a cup of soup and stir. (I haven't tried the Slimfast yet but it's much better value than the one I'm doing so I may change to that in the New Year)

I have also shaken shake all over me! Smile I make mine up and then stick it shaker and all in the freezer for about five minutes until it gets nice and chilled and a bit thicker. I also add about 6 frozen raspberries to the chocolate shake. Again in the one I'm doing I find the chocolate or the vanilla really nice but the others they have are very fake tasting.

Does anyone get headaches on the VLCD? - Day 10 in a row here and I woke with a lousy migraine-type pain. It could be hormonal as my TOTM is due this week.

I hope you're all doing well.

Milbo · 04/12/2019 19:41

@Sjanish33 I haven’t this time but when I did one a few years ago the headaches floored me. I have swerved them this time and have followed the advice to have a Bovril every day to replace the lost salts. I don’t know if it’s a coincidence but I haven’t suffered anywhere near as badly this time. Try that and see if it helps.

Sjanish33 · 05/12/2019 11:19

@Milbo That sounds like a great idea! Thanks. Not so bad today thankfully.

lilydaisyrose · 07/12/2019 10:09

Hello!

Apologies for the lack of posts, things are very busy at home & work just now.

I'm one month in today and weighing in at 17st 10lbs, with a 26lbs loss to date.

Starting weight 7/11/19:- 19st 8lbs
End of wk 1 14/11/19:- 18st 10lbs (12lb loss)
End of wk 2 21/11/19:- 18st 6lbs (4lb loss)
End of wk 3 28/11/19:- 18st 0lbs (6lb loss)
End of mth 1 (30 days) 7/12/19:- 17st 10lbs (4 lbs loss)
Total weight lost in 1 mth:- 1st 12lbs or 26lbs

Although I'm still very overweight, I do feel much better. Its just frustrating that its not yet noticeable! I can't wait for people to notice as that helps spur me on!

Welcome back/welcome to everyone on the thread - how are you doing this week? I am ok, its getting a bit dull now though and I'm a bit sad about all the yummy Christmas food I'm constantly refusing. I do have a Christmas out at a veggie restaurant this week so I will have to make a sensible choice.

I had THE most disgusting shake this wesk, partly as I was eating on the run and didn't have the time to whizz it up properly. I poured in boiling hot water then couldn't shake it as I'd used my exante metal shaker and it was then far too hot to touch. By the time I got to work it was lukewarm with massive lumps - yuk! I usually whizz up my hot shakes with the stick blender.

Anyway, keep on trucking and I will too! I've a few things to do this morning then will have a nice family day. Planning a bar for breakfast, porridge for lunch then a choc pudding for tea and then some olives later -in a break to my usual routine.

Sjanish33 · 07/12/2019 11:29

Wow, @lilydaisyrose they're some numbers! Well done that's quite an impressive loss in a month. I have a feeling I've slowed down this week (my TOTM is due but overdue ) though I've stuck to the VLCD -

I know what you mean about noticeable weight loss, I notice it, but I'm seeing friends this coming weekend whom I haven't seen in a year and I reckon they won't notice at all. I feel better in myself and I'm sure you do too, so that's the important thing!!

Milbo · 07/12/2019 23:56

Incredible losses @lilydaisyrose, well done! I bet it won’t be long before people notice. They say around 2 stone is when other people notice. I wound up in hospital this week so I’m off the diet for a bit. I’ve got gallstones now and one got lodged in a bile duct and made me very ill. I am going to keep trying to lose weight but it will have to be a bit slower. On the plus side, I got a trip to the Mainland as I had to be transferred to a bigger hospital. I’m feeling good now but I shall have to watch your successes from the sidelines. I hit just over 2 stone off before it happened.

Sjanish33 · 08/12/2019 15:12

Aww @Milbo that's terrible. I believe the pain from them is incredible. Take is slowly and I hope you recover in style.

NotMiranda · 08/12/2019 19:34

Hello everyone. It sounds like you're all doing well - Milbo, many sympathies on the gallstones, everyone says they're one of THE most painful things you can have.

Day 2 of Exante, and although it's mostly pretty vile, I very much hope I can make it through to Christmas and then start again on some form of it (might have to be the blood sugar diet - at least you can have actual food!) afterwards.

So far, the two shakes I've had (lemon cheesecake, caramel frappe) have both been fine: the bars (peanut butter, lemon) bearable if a bit weird-textured, and the meals (daal and s&s noodles) compellingly awful. I bought the 100 meals for £80 black Friday deal, so I have a lot of them to get through!

Weekdays are a bit of a challenge for me because Mon-Thurs I am working away from home, staying in a hotel WHERE BREAKFAST IS FREE AND I CAN CLAIM MY EVENING MEAL ON EXPENSES, so the temptation is to stuff my face (plus it's a pretty demanding job at the moment). I have bought a cheap, lightweight stick blender and that's going in my suitcase along with the shakes, and I'm just going to have to stay in and watch Netflix. (Or maybe do some of the 100000 tons of extra work which has just been dumped on me)

Anyway. Sorry, bit of a ramble. Wish me luck, as I do you!

bluepixie · 08/12/2019 20:57

Hi guys can I join? I’ve been doing Cambridge last 2 weeks and struggling to focus! I’m Doing it until Dec 24 and then I know it won’t be possible over Xmas. I’m
Hoping to get 3-4 pounds off by then but I’m really struggling and hoping this thread can help me!
How do u all cope with the hunger???!

NettleTea · 08/12/2019 22:13

Ive just ordered the exante as the price was half of slim and save and another one. Im a bit worried to hear about the disgusting taste though.
I was doing slim and save a couple of years back and it was going well until I went to the Labour party conference and it all went downhill (in several ways)

I have lymphodema and dodgy arthritis so I need to lse weight to try to take the pressure off and feel better about myself, as I dont feel great. I tried Noom and just plateaued. Ive had tests as to why I get to a point and then nothing works. I have had no results on that. My doctor gave me some tablets but Im loathe to take them. Ive told myself to try this again before I resort to the tablets. Its winter, Im not really working til Spring, so if Im going to feel weak and pathetic, it might as well be now. Then when the weight goes down I will address the next bit, the fitness levels

lilydaisyrose · 08/12/2019 22:42

Hi @Cream123,

You shouldn't be hungry really, if you're in ketosis. I get the odd pang if I'm due a shake or bar or need to have some more water, but I'm not really hungry usually. If you're absolutely starving, I'd have something high carb like eggs or a slice of ham or an extra shake.

FrivolousPancake · 08/12/2019 23:29

Delighted to find this thread!
Can I join in?

I’m starting on Thursday when the last of my Christmas parties/lunches/drinks are over. I’m going to swerve and cancel anything else because this really needs to happen and honestly I can’t say I’m enjoying socializing particularly because I feel like I’m in someone else’s body!

So glad to see there’s other people going in December!

Sjanish33 · 09/12/2019 08:11

Hope you are all doing well - Weigh in this morning and is I suspected a small loss of 2.5lb - that's 8lb in two weeks and I'm.on track to lose the 10lb before Christmas.

I was extremely hungry all week (I don't buy into the ketosis killing my hunger) But I stayed on track. I have a night out Friday and after that I hope to continue until Christmas Eve and then break until the new year.

bluepixie · 09/12/2019 09:12

Hi thanks for the welcome
Think I’m hungry because I do it for 3/4 days then have a binge! So I’m prob not going into ketosis
Am determined to not do that now though coz my loss is small and slow as a result!
So today I’ve had my choc orange shake and a black coffee.
My consultant is due to weigh me on Friday and I was terrible all weekend so need to stay on track so I’ve lost something!!!

NotMiranda · 09/12/2019 12:36

I did Cambridge YEARS ago (like, 20++ years) and I do remember that falling off the wagon just meant the horror of adapting again to the diet. Day 3 here and all around me colleagues are having lunch, which normally I'd just ignore and get a sandwich, but someone's got a leftover pasta bake which smells delicious and I am DROOLING!!

Need to stick with it though. I'm not setting a target yet, but let's just say it is a middling number of stones between 1-10!!

bluepixie · 09/12/2019 13:09

Luckily has a busy am and not snacked and attempted to break it!
Time for a bar and coffee

My trouble time is evening when I want to eat the whole fridge

Sjanish33 · 09/12/2019 13:52

@NotMiranda I feel I'm half starved half the time and because I'm cooking for the hubby it get incredibly tempting - I can't believe I have been so steady... I also miss red wine but I keep telling myself I will enjoy it all the more when I do have some -

I'm almost 20lb down and still have another 40 to go to it's going to be a long road.

@cream123 I find the evenings difficult some evenings I have a coke zero as a treat - but mostly I go to bed early - I'm day 15 of this run (I did about 21 days in August and lost 1 stone and managed to keep most of it off)

VLCD isn't easy but I find it the only thing that's ever worked for me - mind you, I'm not a serial Dieter - I did try SW last year and found I was eating too much and I got too obsessed with mealtimes.

Hope you all have a great week

NotMiranda · 09/12/2019 19:58

Well, I'm sitting in my hotel room scoffing a box of sashimi & edemame beans from Itsu (355 cals), with some crispy seaweed thins (22 cals) and about to REALLY push the boat out and have some miso soup (21 cals). That plus two bars (lemon and then chocolate crunch) brings me in on target so long as I don't follow up with room service!!

Hope everyone is feeling positive and motivated. Even if hungry!

bluepixie · 09/12/2019 20:12

Well done notmiranda! Ohhh I love sushi! No room service now :)

I had a prawn stir fry and my shake and my bar and I’m not eating anymore! Am in calorie limit too and trying not to think of the mince pies my DH bought this weekend!

bluepixie · 11/12/2019 07:47

Well I had a sneaky weigh in pre Friday with consultant
No weight loss Infact 0.5 gain . My own fault for the terrible weekend :(
If I focus today and tmrw can I loose it and more I hate being weighed and being heavier it’s terrible
