Putting on weight on holiday

I'm just wondering whether everyone puts on weight on holiday and if so how much. I've just been away for four days and I can just tell I've put on weight. We ate out each day but I didn't go mad, for example I didn't have a single pudding. I did though have starters and a main course and wine. It's made me wonder what would happen if I went for a fortnight.
Im not getting on the scales!

I've just come back after a week away and have put on 7lbs. No puddings, had about 5 pints and 3 glasses of wine for the whole week. Healthy breakfast and lunch but I did eat out every night. Thought I was being a bit healthy but obviously not. Gutted as it takes me ages to lose 7lbs and I'm already 5 stone overweight.

I usually stay the same because anything I eat is outweighed by all the walking etc.

HollysTeflonSeptum · 11/08/2019 09:48

For two weeks can be anything up to 5lbs depending on the type of holiday (!)

beccarocksbaby · 11/08/2019 09:56

I always refuse to weigh myself until a week after I get back so the water weight from travel and salt are out of my system and I get an actual figure that I've gained

HeyMonkey · 11/08/2019 10:02

In Spain and Italy I usually lose weight from eating lots of seafood and doing loads of walking and swimming.

In America I put on 11lbs in a week from non stop pancakes and fries with everything.

I've just got back from a 10 night AI holiday, and have put on about 5lbs. Cooked breakfast every morning followed by fruit and yogurt, decent lunches and dinners always followed by rice pudding (in 35 degree heat too 😂). I didn't drink alcohol or pop though.

I walked MILES every day, and went running every other morning, so I dread to think how much I'd have gained if I'd lounged by the pool the whole time!

I should lose it in a couple of weeks once I'm back in my usual routine, but I looked okay in a bikini (bar the C section apron, bloody thing) so I didn't let it bother me. The novelty of having all my meals cooked for me for once never wears off! 😂

It never ceases to amaze me how little it takes to start piling on weight. We really don't need to eat much at all.

I put on 4lb (have just come home from holiday). I suspect it was the ice cream - I rarely eat any sweets or puddings, I had 4 in a week. I don't usually have 4 in a year! The chips undoubtedly helped, too... I ate in the s/c flat some evenings, though, seafood & salad (delicious).

DisgruntledGuineaPig · 11/08/2019 10:21

I'm amazed how little I've gained this year, we did a week full board, lots of wine etc, I basically sat by a pool reading for the bulk of the week, but only gained 0.5kg (about 1lb). It was a sporty hotel, so the food was very healthy.

Still surprised, I'm the person who managed to gain weight on a skiing holiday in previous years!

HollysTeflonSeptum · 11/08/2019 11:09

Absolutely HeyMonkey The U.S. is lethal, portion sizes alone.

BelindasGleeTeam · 11/08/2019 11:13

I put on 2lb but had a busy week exercise wise, walked a lot. Stuck to my 16:8 but I ate anything and everything in my 8 hours.

It came off rapidly once I was back home though.

Siameasy · 11/08/2019 12:43

We are off to the US in autumn. The first time we went I visibly put on weight, I can see in the pictures and although I didn’t own a scale I estimate 10lbs.
This time I’m not going to put on weight because that was disgusting

Jsmith99 · 11/08/2019 12:48

Of course I put on weight while on holiday. The whole bloody point of a holiday is to be able to eat Cake and drink Wine Gin whatever you want, and to not exercise unless you actually want to.

Northernsoullover · 11/08/2019 12:50

I lose weight on holiday. I make better food choices, don't snack and am very active.

cricketmum84 · 11/08/2019 12:50

We got back from 2 weeks in Bulgaria last Sunday. Self catering so no buffets. I drank a lot of calories, ice cold beer round the pool, 2 for 1 cocktails etc but ate very very healthily, lots of salads and grilled fish and only 1 ice cream and 1 cake dessert over the fortnight.

My legs and ankles swelled a lot with the heat and flights. Weighed in last Sunday and I had gained 5lbs. Weighed in this morning and I've lost 10lbs since we got back so I think it was mostly water retention!

thenewaveragebear1983 · 11/08/2019 17:22

I reckon I put on about 5lbs -7lbs in the last two weeks. On holiday wasn't so bad, but then we've had a 2nd week with Dh off work just at home and I've just drank too much wine and eaten too many carbs. I've run 80km in those two weeks so it's not like I've been a total sloth, but when I reintroduce the sugar and carbs I instantly retain several pounds of water, plus probably a pound or two of actual gain.

Back on track tomorrow though, and I expect it to be gone within a week.

onlyconnect · 12/08/2019 09:20

It's quite comforting to hear that some of you lose it very quickly when you get back. I'm hoping this will happen to me but I'm finding I have so much else on at this time of year that I'm not sure that'll happen to me.
