Right, no more excuses from me. I’m very lazy and love eating too much.

From next Monday, for the next two weeks, I’m going to be walking to work (4.1 miles each way) and see where that gets me while also avoiding crisps, cream cakes etc.

Anyone want to join me?

After exercise eat protein to help repair your muscles. I try to walk as much as I can but I have fibromyalgia. I do a chair fitness class and followed slimming world. 5.5st lighter and maintaining for over 16 months now.

I found being in the right mindset helped and looking at it as a life style change rather than a diet helped.

I have decided something similar. From October I will be working from home so I intend to go for a walk each lunchtime. The exercise will be good for me as will being away from the 'puter.

Wow Grover - that's brilliant. LellyM - great minds think alike. I know walking is the best start, hopefully a couple of hours a day will show the difference on waist and hips. Will post starting measurements,

I try and do 10,000 steps a day. I really notice the difference if I don't do it.

Do you listen to music/ podcasts whilst you walk OP? I enjoy walking but get a bit bored if I'm by myself and look a bit strange talking to myself

Are you used to talking that distance? Not to be a negative Nancy but 8.2 miles a day when you're not used to it can be hard on your legs! And I used to have a 3 mile walk to work + 12 hours on my feet so I have experience!

Make sure to have some really supportive shoes, wear a back pack if you have to carry anything, stretch your legs and back when you get home and I always found hot baths to be really relaxing when my IT band used to tense up!

And some good podcasts/audiobooks to take your mind off the times. An hour + walk with only my thoughts was enough to drive me crazy!

But I loved being that active and walking that much - and the calories burnt soon add up!
