For those who are unable to exercise (I have ME so exercise literally makes me ill), it is possible to lose weight. I did it by shrinking my portions, allowing myself to feel hungry, sticking to 3 meals a day with no snacks except very rarely. I eat different foods every day. Nothing is banned but if I have a carb heavy meal I'll have a lower carb next meal. No calorie counting. Plenty of water to drink. No alcohol.

Don't give up. I didn't buy expensive shakes or pills. I just reduced my food intake.

Well done!

Can I just add, exercise is important for health and there are many benefits, but for those of us with a disability or chronic condition, it's not possible. Walking more than 10 mins puts me in a flu like state for days. Similarly if I swim for any length of time I end up very heavy and achey.

Changing eating habits is more effective than eating the same as usual and exercising. Doing both is great if you can.

Thank you @hopeishere.

I was in the overweight category before and now slap bang in the middle of healthy bmi. Just got to maintain now! 😬

Well done! This is what I want to do, do you mind if I ask, what do you do if you've say, had dinner and later on you are starving? This is my downfall and the only thing that stops it is by going to bed!

gotmychocolateimgood · 05/08/2019 15:51

I don't stay up late as my condition means I need a lot of sleep, but if I get into bed and feel hungry I just drink some water. By then I can't be bothered eating again as I brush my teeth straight after meals. I'm lazy though 🙂

Well done-this is exactly it. Research has shown that exercise is not the key to losing weight-eating less food is the key to losing weight! Calories in must be less than those out!

Just wanted to say well done and what a great post to remind us that a simple approach is often the best. Lots of us are guilty of over thinking weight loss.

gotmychocolateimgood · 05/08/2019 17:27

Thank you!

BTW before I get flamed I'm not saying it's always easy
I used to be a bit obsessed by food but also didn't always enjoy what I was eating. Now I choose what I really want to eat, make sure my day is roughly balanced and then don't crave snacks. I think it's important to be realistic, we can't kid ourselves that we can eat huge quantities and still lose or maintain.

I enjoy different foods and find if I have a protein rich breakfast I'm fuller for longer. Eg some scrambled eggs. I have a couple of squares of chocolate or a Halo top ice cream after lunch most days. Then I don't crave sugar the rest of the day.

What's an average day's food?

Just noticed on my Kindle that Paul McKenna has a book called Jypnotic Gastric Band. Might be worth a lookGrin

Well done got my!

2 stone, with no exercise, and with ME/CFS to deal with as well. You deserve a Star :-).

I'm in a similar position, including ME, so I know you need to think about things differently with diets. I'm doing an alternate day diet, I know its not for everyone, but it seems to be working out for me so far.

Take care and best of luck.

BlueSwim · 07/08/2019 19:23

p.s. your meal plans for B, L and D sounded great.

gotmychocolateimgood · 07/08/2019 19:42

Thanks @blueswim I realised early on I was burning fewer calories as I'm very inactive now, about 500 steps a day. I'm also short so need literally half my DH's portion. But I'm OK with that now.
